Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!
Go read GPL some time. It's horrific and horrifically funny at the same time.
Dubbs (when in that persona) is their ambassador/representative/spokesman to USCHO.
Yeah, right. Nice try Gurt, but I'll hold on to the few brain cells the alcohol hasn't destroyed yet, thanks.
Thing is, when I say goferfans have sex with goats, I don't actually
believe they do, (in fact, I'd be completely shocked to find the real number runs as high as 40%) but these GPL mopes take rumor, innuendo, and outright lies and report them as facts to the 'gofer faithful.' Turns out Dubbs isn't so much a troll as he's caught up in a cult. A bizarre cult run out of a damp and dimly lit, maroon and gold basement somewhere in the lower suburbs. And controlled by fat, drunk, and talentless ex-pond jockeys living vicariously through others, who equate knowing how to shovel out the Zamboni at their fat (possibly also drunk) kid's rink to actual intelligence.
Horrific barely scratches the surface.
Sad to pass along the news of the passing of John Dowell today. Jake's father had been battling Huntington's disease for 13 years.
Like Jake, I grew up playing hockey in Eau Claire and John was a familiar face around the rink. Dowell was just a year older than I was, so we crossed paths hundreds of times. It's too bad this nasty disease had to take John's life, but he's in a much better place now.
Thoughts with the Dowell family this evening.
Father of one of my close friends from high school succumbed to Huntington's. Tremendous guy, absolutely devastating and terrifying disease. Very difficult, but in many ways it was a great relief to see him finally at peace. Hope the Dowell family finds comfort in that, but maybe very hard on Jake's brother, Luke, who also has Huntington's.
For those not familiar with the story, here's a link to a piece on the Dowell's from last fall.
Very best to Jake and his entire family.
