Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

Nice way to treat your in-state friends. I'd say complain early and often and you could win the battle, but if it's mostly a practice that's pretty lame.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

Just received clarification from Wisconsin:

"It is a scrimmage. Essentially two teams practicing together. There aren’t really any details. It is not set up to be a public event."

That sucks. Baggot sure implied it was a public event. The risk of it being public is losing to a non D1 team in front of thousands.

How so?

They may be thrilled to get to scrimmage the D-1 boys. A chance to see how they compare.

It's quite possible that a scrimmage was all it was ever intended to be and that both programs are happy with it as is.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

Biggest issue is that it was communicated poorly to the SNC fans.

Maybe they wanted to show everyone else how they might compare too?

There is only one team with something to lose in this one...

Baggott said it was to fill a void in the schedule, which to fans means we see them play, like a USDP game or an Olympic team game. Apparently the void is strictly an internal void. The void in the fan's schedule is meaningless I guess.

Would you go to this?

I don't believe it would be much of a draw.

So, you are saying you would pay $25 to watch this game?

More likely, he'd find a season ticket holder who got stuck paying for them who is giving them away. ;):p

Seriously though, if this interests you as a fan while our attendance for real games is around 8k, I just don't know what to make of that.

I guess I just have better ways to spend my time.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

Whether intended or not, Baggott's article read like it was a game open to the public. It said that the game/scrimmage counts against St. Norbert's total.

Personally, if they charged a reasonable price ($5-$10) and (heaven forbid) didn't charge for parking in the surrounding lots, I would consider going. However, if it's a scrimmage where they are going to sporadically stop/start for coaching purposes, my interest would go down a lot more.

I say just drop the puck and let them play. UW basketball and football plays real games against lower division teams pretty much every year. World isn't going to end if St. Norbert's springs an upset.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

If it is a game for SNC, I want to see it. $10 for this on UW's end would seem reasonable to me.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

It's going to be played in LaBahn, they wouldn't charge season ticket holders. If it was going to be an actual exhibition I didn't figure they would charge more than $10-15. SNC has a pretty solid following so I figured you'd have a good group from GB make the trek. I also received quite a bit of response from people who don't even attend regular season hockey games but have ties to SNC and Wisconsin for one reason or another that wanted to go. I think if the tickets were cheap they could easily get 1,500-2k into LaBahn -- which seats like 2,300.

Guess it doesn't matter now.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

I am told it was UW's decision to close the event. And I share in the disappointment and surprise. Seems to me UW could have made $20k or more, between tickets, concessions, etc.

Doesn't surprise me. Like I said earlier, it should be a closed scrimmage to avoid a potential PR disaster. I firmly believe this was initially scheduled to be open to public, then UW thought better of it. If you are wondering if a score will be released, the basketball team has played closed scrimmages against a variety of teams (Northern Ill, UIC, etc) throughout the years and scores and stats were never released to the media.

Anything else, do you want a free hot dog and large coke?

All he is saying is that there is a scenario where he would go. Charging $10 and offering free parking shouldn't be considered that radical of a concept.

With that date still over 2 months away, UW could still change it's collective mind and make it exhibition game open to the fans. Kind of depends what they want out of it. Put 1,500-2,000 in LaBahn and it's pretty loud. It would be a pretty good atmosphere, much better than games against USA Under 18 at Kohl.

I'd go for 10 bucks max, free parking. It is college hockey involving my favorite team, and I'd love to see them in person.

There will be a whole bunch of real games this year that could use fans of the team that would like to see them in person.
