Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Per Andy/Chuck: Barry Alvarez told the WSJ he will NOT fire Mike Eaves.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

I hope they sign Eaves to a long contract.

By all means keep playing the most boring hockey around...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

WSJ article: Here.

Alvarez said that he will sit down with Eaves at the first opportunity and his first question to him will be "We have issues. I don't know what they are. I need you to tell me how we're going to fix this."

Hmmmm. I think I can point to at least one issue Barry. Could he possibly say anything which illustrates the problem any more?

Well if that is the case, you can be assured that after 23 years as a season ticket holder I will not be renewing my 4 tickets. I would rather stay home and watch any college game, than pay to see the boring garbage Eaves has been putting on the ice!!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

"if he chooses to be back.’’

Ah, I get it now. This is where Barry proceeds to pull pranks on Eaves all off season, until he can't stand to stay on as head coach and quits on his own. That way they don't have to pay him that 800k or whatever.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

I have just written an email to Associate AD Jason King voicing my concerns regarding the state of the program. I encourage the many of you who have similar concerns to do the same. His email address is available on the uw badgers website under the staff.

Another year like this is not acceptable.

Is Barry serious? "I don't know what they are?" What the ****ing god **** ****? He's the AD! He SHOULD know EXACTLY what the problem is by now. Does Richter have to call and tell him? How out of touch can he be?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Do the details of a contract buyout differ depending on whether he resigns or gets gassed?

At this point, UW Athletics is currently on probation with me, if Eaves coaches another game at UW (or the geniuses in charge extend his contract) then this idiot is giving the whole athletic department my personal "death penalty" - No hockey, no basketball, no football, no support for any UW athletic program. A 4 win season is an embarrassment, bringing the coach back who after 12 seasons doesn't have things established to the point where a 4 win season happens is just a travesty. If UW athletics isn't going to make a change I fail to see why I should spent my emotional and financial resources on products from an organization with such shockingly low standards.

I would assume if he quits he gets nothing. He'd get a job in the NHL like Gwoz did, and he's made a lot of money so he could probably afford to take a year or 2 off if he chose to.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Contract buyout can not possibly be a reason to not act. Wisconsin has taken in two larger buyout from having Arkansas and Oregon State (how inept are things in the athletic department when the head coach of football at Wisconsin leaves for those two football programs (especially the later)?) hire their football coaches. When Eaves loses a 1000+ season ticketholders (I will be stunned if it is not more then that this Summer too), what does that cost? My math says: 1000 X $24/ticket X 20 games = $480,000

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

I'm out if eaves is back. Me and my six season tickets for over fifteen years as well as my badger fund donation and women's season tickets are all out. The only way further I can hit them is in the pocket book.

Apparently 26 losses and legacy recruits not coming isn't enough.

I just want to punch Barry right now. Wake the h#ll up.

100% agree. I am done why should I care if they don't.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

I haven't seen a post season thread yet, so let's go here. (When somebody does start an off season thread, let a veteran do it; somebody who can come up with a decent thread title.)

If someone makes a cheesy thread title, someone else can just make another that better reflects our current collective mood.

Like to suggest that "idiot fans" be incorporated in a new thread title

Puppies ****ting too.

Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXIII: Give UP

"The average scanned attendance for the 19 home men's hockey games was 7,507, down 451 from last season and down over 4,000 from the high-water mark in 2009-10, when the team was the national runner-up.
Stop and think about that for a minute. The scanned ticket attendance for 09-10 was only 11500? Paid attendance was 13000 or so, if you take away the Camp Randall game that year.

Granted, that year had one of the last Badger Hockey Showdowns. And a USNTDP exhibition. And no home games against NoDak. But even still: an AVERAGE of 2500 fans per game didn't use their tickets that year? That's over 11% of all tickets sold. During a rather successful season, with one of the most talent-laden teams the program has ever seen, where we only had two multi-game winless streaks (both of them were just two games long, with a tie and a loss), and eventually produced the program's only Hobey winner. Paid attendance of 13000/game is nothing to sniff at (yes, even with no competition in town, unless you count the basketball team), and 11500 butts in seats is still pretty darned good.

But think about that... 1/9th of all ticket holders that season either said "f that noise" or simply couldn't give away their tickets. Is it any wonder that support for the program is what it is now?

By all means keep playing the most boring hockey around...

I've come to recognize that username as the one that precedes comments that grasp at reasons to use the same tired jokes over and over and over, without much relevance to the discussion. I'm surprised I didn't see something about "becky."
