With the texts that Andringa was getting from Burish tonight....they should get Adam to come in and talk to the team. Get these guys fired up!

that game was too close for comfort but the end result is what matters, hopefully they can get a couple of wins against CC and get on a roll.

Yes, he was talking about it on the broadcast. If you want tomorrow, I can put it up on Youtube.

I agree. As Chuck said in the other thread, it was sloppy. But I do feel the team learns more from a close, back and forth game like Sat than from a blowout. They managed to fight back a few times against a team I really do not like playing.

Good sweep. I can now be a Penn State hockey fan until March.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Psychologically, yesterday's game was a bit of a difficult situation, coming off a big win and then going down early on the 5x3 pp. It seemed easy for thoughts of the similarities between this game and last year's loss to creep into the boys minds. Despite that, we were able to overcome some adversity and get the job done. In my mind I agree with WW that this was a real opportunity for some growth. We were uneven throughout, but responded when we had to and got the job done-- Something to build on, especially going into a similar situation against CC next week.

This week's 'Wisko McBadgerton's Shot and a Beer Player of the Week' award (henceforth to be referenced as "The Shabby") goes, of course, to Sean Little. Sean collected the game puck Friday and the team Hard Hat yesterday. Awards to be proud of no doubt, but with the passage of time will almost certainly pale in comparison to his first 'Shabby'. Mention also goes to Jeff Dahl and Keegan Meuer, who along with Sean, provided veteran leadership and a steady hand on a night that Zengerle's line was stymied, and Rump's fought a few pucks. It's encouraging to get quality play from the six guys playing on the third line. (Yes, six guys; third line. That's what I meant to write.)

Credit to Penn State for elevating their game last night and getting the puck to the net with some good chances. I think they are certainly going to win some games, particularly on smaller rinks where their size and physicality may play more to their advantage.

Biggest areas of concern to me are: 1.)Our 5x5 backcheck was a little lackadaisical at times and 2.) How we handle pressure in our own end. We struggled vs. the gophers against an aggressive forecheck, and some of the same issues cropped up yesterday. We're progressing well in turning over the opposition on our own blue line and going, but when they get it in deep, we tend to get bunched up upon possession and we seem to be indecisive as to whether to try for a controlled set up, or to break it out quickly. We miss opportunities to get out and go, especially when we have the top lines on the ice that can really run. Without clear intention we have a tendency sometimes to really get ourselves in trouble. It's a work in progress, I suppose, we obviously need to guard against turning it over in front of our own net, and considering last week, perhaps that plays in to it.

On the weekend we move up 9 spots to 13th in RPI, and move into T2nd in the B1G. Can't complain much about that.

I was in 121 yesterday, so near enough to the student section, but not right on top of them. You cannot hear the "Eff You" that's added to the Sieve chant, even from that close, so it's small and localized enough.

I heard a small "We want Dante" on Saturday, as well.

Lastly, the mic went out during the National Anthem and the crowd picked up the song right away and kept it going. It was a pretty awesome moment - there was almost no pause and it was loud and awesome. I was able to capture some video and we posted it over at B5Q

Yeah, on TV and radio broadcasts, you hear "All...your...fault...[drums]...SIEVE" with an unintelligible murmur during [drums], so it's not awful. It's pretty loud when you're in the student section, but you definitely can hear some abstaining from that unwanted portion.

People tend to sing the anthem when the band plays, but not that loudly. I'd love for that to happen every game!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

checked out the video of the anthem which is awesome! There are numerous empty seats in the second deck and I know I saw a few in the lower bowl when I watched on the tape delay last night.

...I wonder if the Athletic Department cares at all about what's ailing UW hockey. One would think w/Cerniglia up there he'd be our voice but I guess he's either bought in to the football mentality or he's not being heard.

I will say this though, seeing kids waive the Sieve banner w/out harassment from the KC staff was pretty heart warming...maybe that will lead to gophers/spartans/wolverines on a stick being allowed again etc

More fans came later, but yeah, it doesn't look that great. Judging by the changes to the gameday presentation after having the same thing for years, they seem to be trying new things. Right from the get-go on Friday night, everything felt right, despite the empty seats.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

My $.02 on Saturday (I don't remember too much from Friday:p):

I thought the Saturday crowd was pretty quiet. I generally always enjoy the Friday games better.

Crease Creatures, when its quiet get a cheer going immediately. I constantly yell when its quiet, but I sit right above the band next to the students. We need you guys to keep the energy up.

The National Anthem was one of the better moments since I have been going to hockey.

The new lights and smoke and stuff, I could live without, but gives if the feel of a NHL game. Or a USHL game. I am sure some will like it. I like they are doing things a little different.

I still don't like the new entrance video (other than Posick's triple overtime call which is classic) and wish they would go back to the old one.

They still had the NC banners up, but the ring thing looks modern and stupid in my opinion. Bring back the classic banners.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Wow, the Badger's Facebook account actually mentioned the Hockey team....along with posting Barnes' between the legs goal.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Still would rather have the banners, but the new signage wasn't terrible. I guess I was expecting something way worse.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Great to see scoring up and down the line-up all weekend. The Barnes between the legs goal was awesome and the Kerdiles goal from the slot after the subtle deek was as powerful a close in shot as I have seen, just on a rope to the corner. Little and Soleway had good physical moments. Soleway on the scoring end just seems things are moving a little fast for him to finish, but he's going to put some huge numbers up once he adjusts. He may end up being the most physical scorer UW has had in years. I'd like to see Zullinick get going a bit more.

That whole play by Kerdiles was just beyond gorgeous. Like flashes of future career brilliance gorgeous. And while it was powerful, it was also soft, if that isn't totally nuts of me.
Half the guys on the team would have shanked that shot into the netting. Kerdiles pulled back like a slapper and then wristed into the upper 90. It was finesse and great hands and just seriously a little snapshot of why he's so dangerous. If every opponent doesn't show that bit of film and with the warning "this is why you don't leave him alone in the slot" they're nuts.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Per Bags, Besse is up on the Kerdiles-Mersch line and Zully is out of the lineup all together.

sending a message to Zulinick? I didn't notice him much vs. PSU

Pretty sure this isn't fair but it is fact: With Zullinick in the line-up the Badgers are: 7-9-2 (.444). Without Zullinick: 21-9-5 (.672).

His total individual stats are: 19 GP 0g 8a 7-25 PIM 20 SOG.

His 14 SOG in 12 games is a real problem to me. Even Faust has 12. Little has 16; Zengerle 31... I'd complain that Dahl's numbers are comparable this year (0g 4a 13 SOG) but Dahl is a great special teamer and Besse and Soleway have 29 and 31 SOG respectively. And Dahl would probably have another half dozen assists on perfect set ups if Soleway was up to speed and not fanning on wide open nets in the slot. (At least Soleway is swinging. He'll be alright.) Lastly and most astounding, Morgan has 1 SOG in the last 4 games.

Zullnick has good skills, but he's just not seeing the ice and making plays he's capable of.

Not sure if being out of the line up in Tuesday practice definitely means out for the weekend, but something has gotta happen there to shake things up.
