Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

Speaking of getting hit by projectiles, that guy in 110 (possibly 109) who caught that puck coming in hot...that was a nice catch.

I was just thinking that I can't believe that there was actually a time, not that long ago where the end nets were not there. Can't even imagine anymore.

What were they thinking? Can't believe more people didn't get hurt (or killed).

Oh yeah... and nice segue btw. :D

Oh yeah, there were a couple more things I wanted to mention! Remember how there's a new ice cream animation? There was a nice animated broom sweeping the floor on the big screen after the final horn sounded.

Just seconds before LaBate's goal, someone a few rows behind me shouted, "Hey Nagelvoort! You might want to trade in your stick for a broom, because this weekend's gonna be a sweep!" Right as I was chuckling at the joke and shuddering at what kind of jinxing he was doing...LaBate storms in and scores! That guy a few rows behind me has magic powers.

Edit: Power play is still not great. There was one in the third period where they did that thing where they played better at even strength following the penalty than they did during it.

I'd say 111, as I was in 109 and he appeared two sections over from me. But agreed - great snag.

That was the most fun I've had in the Kohl in awhile - and I was thinking that before the scrum at the end. As a dreaded old person, I'm always downtrodden by the lack of knowledge and fun had around me at games. Folks that don't Sieve or know any songs or cheers and kind of just sit like lumps make me sad. Tonight the crowd knew their hockey and were in to the game and it just made for a great atmosphere.

The hockey team has been featured on the UW Facebook feed this weekend, which is nice. The post following today's game has a lot of comments on it, but there was one specific epic comment that seems to have disappeared, tragically, but was basically a rant about how the Big Ten is just about trying to have a channel on pay TV and that Wisconsin/Michigan is not a rivalry because repeating the lie doesn't make it so. It listed UW/Minny, UW/NoDak and UW/UMD as REAL rivalries.

Did I miss when we started bothering to add UMD to this list?

I, for one, cannot believe that that commenter thought UW/UMD is a bigger rivalry than our storied feuds with Minnesota State, Bemidji State, and Nebraska-Omaha!

Anyone coming to Ann Arbor? My crew will be coming in our annual hockey trip/48 hour drinking contest...

Good to see to see the boys playing with a little swagger and taking it to a good team. Especially without Kerdiles and Little in the line up. Just a very satisfying weekend. Timely goals, big stops, big hits... Great Hockey.

this! I was at the game tonight though not in my normal seats. Great weekend for UW and really surprised me because to be honest I expected a split. Kudos to the entire team.

one guy that may be unheralded but has impressed this fan is Schulze, **** that kid can skate like the wind, I love when he breaks out with speed and has the opposition on their heels a bit

I agree with you on Schulze, though I feel like I've seen him make some pretty close calls with regards to handling the puck in the defensive zone, speeding around the Badgers crease.

I'm still waiting for that endorsement money for our "Badger Max" chant.

I've been pumping this kids tires to anyone that will listen for a while now. He can move as well as any defenseman in the country. In a straight line race I'm not sure if he's the fastest out there, but with the puck on his stick and his agility on his skates, there aren't many better. As he continues to get better manning up on guys defensively he's going to be a player.

Great weekend and I love, love, LOVE the scrum at the end. Showed a little grit... a little sandpaper.

Agree 100%. That was the best game I've seen them play all year; even including the Kerdiles games. The 4th line really gelled. They had more scoring chances and Eaves was still rolling them with 6 to go in the 3rd period of a 1 goal game.

I love the "Pasta" nickname!

As someone stated yesterday, maybe when they watch the Friday OSU tape they'll get a few hints on how to run a pp. The only downer from yesterday was the last pp...words cannot describe the awfulness.

I like having Michigoon back on the schedule!

Can we just do that every time? That was wonderful. I really want more of what I just saw. That was great. From what I heard, the Michigan fans were great to be around, as well!

That was the most fun I've had in the Kohl in awhile - just made for a great atmosphere.

Well! Look who had such a good time last night with what's-her-face, who took you-know-who's place!

May as well wear your mittens next time we get together, cause it's gonna be chilly and you won't be using those grubby little paws of yours. And you don't even want to be in the building when Sue and Little Miss Wolvie run into each other.

Oh, you should know that Redhawk will be spending a lot of time at our place. Now there's a stick.

It's been so long it's hard to remember for sure but I think burd was possibly a fan of the Marquette WARRIORS that lost interest.

Golden Eagles... Ugh. Who can blame him?
