Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVIII: This could be a banner year, but how would we know?

LaBate moving to center this week, per bags.

Besse-Zengerle-Barnes
Zulinick-Dahl-Mersch
Navin-LaBate-Soleway

Look at the size on that third line...

Also Sean Little is out this weekend with a shoulder injury. Means either Cavallini or McGuire goes on that fourth line with Meuer and Paape. After watching them play earlier this fall, it has to be McGuire.

I am shocked that LaBate was able to lobby Eaves to allow him to play center. My perception of Eaves has always been he's a "my way or the highway" guy. Hopefully he plays it well and can be an option at C for next year (I can't imagine he'd stay there when Kerdiles gets back). I do love the size on that line.

Will the Friday Mich game be sold out?

Can't imagine that it would.

Still plenty of tix available.

Holy crap! Two commercials for Badger Hockey during the bowl game.

Good to hear. I've had the Winter Classic on with volume, and looking up at the plays in the football game, so I haven't paid any attention to the commercials in the Capital One Bowl presented by Capital One: What's in your wallet? Also, I'm not sure if Badger hockey commercials will be played in northern VA anyway.

Edit: Though I do find it odd that the ads I saw on TV in Madison feature a decent body check in front of a corner section with not a ton of fans. It was from the Penn State series, in which they could have had the hit that led to Faust's goal, in front of the students. I know that's some serious nitpicking, and I'm happy that they're airing these ads at all, during Wisconsin football games.

Yes, I am sure it was a local commercial, but it was still good to see. And it was the same ones, from the Penn State game. Big hit and Tyler Barnes between the legs goal.

Well, there's not really a reason to pay for a national spot. Simply reminding the locals and keeping the brand of Badger Hockey fresh in their minds is what advertising is all about.

Plenty of tickets still available, as usual, but looking at the pick-your-own-seat maps on the UWBadgers.com ticket site, this will likely be the best attended series up to this point (disregarding the student section, which will still count towards the paid attendance, but won't be full, because of break).

Former Badgers Ryan Suter, Ryan McDonagh, Joe Pavelski, and Derek Stepan are named to 2014 US Olympic roster.

And no Bobby Ryan...

So the badgers tie the Gophers for number of Olympians on the men's side (Vanek)? And on the women's the Gophers have six (Raty) to the badgers' five?

At the moment, Badgers and Minnesota each have eight playing for team USA and one each playing for an international team, as far as I can tell, so they're tied at 9 total.
For the record, UND will also have 9 total playing in the Olympics.

Badgers have 4 men, 4 women on USA plus Meaghan Mikkelson with Canada. Minnesota has 5 women, three men on USA plus Raaty.
You're likely right about Vanek, though he hasn't yet been named.

UND women playing internationally are Karvinen (FIN), Tapani (FIN), Eisenschmid (GER), Fellner (GER)
UMD looks to have four women playing - Tea Villila (FIN), Ouellette, Larocque, Irwin on Canada

7 Gopher Women's Olympians (5 US + 2 Finland)
4 Gopher Men's Olympians (3 US + 1 Austria)
