High ankle sprain for Rumpel, according to my sources. Out at minimum the next two weeks.

Wait...what? No...nonononono....(didn't Elliot get injured in 2006?)

What the **** was that? I couldn't listen to the game until I snuck out of a "function" and whipped out the phone. I thought Posick was kidding when I heard it was (I think) 7-2. Is that Paul Capobianco with Brian Posick; I thought that's what I heard? Dude needs to step his game up. Compared to Ian Perrin, who I heard last Friday, a little dry.

(Maybe it was the game itself.

If he can shake off tonight's game mentally, I suppose Peterson will be more physically rested than he would have been after a full game.

Capo has only done a couple games, he'll get better as he goes. And it's hard for anyone to make a 9-2 beat-down sound good.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

As I said in the UW vs BC/BU thread - that was impressively bad.

I was at the volleyball game with the live blog for the hockey games on my phone. Bucky came over, and I asked how he was doing. He indicated he was doing well...

"I assume you haven't seen the men's hockey score."
[Signals no.]
"They're losing 7-1"
[Bucky facepalm, points at my "SIEVE" shirt]
"Yeah, I guess Peterson was a little porous*"
[Tears run down his face, more facepalms]

...Volleyball lost in 3 sets. Let's hope the various Badgers fare better for the remainder of the weekend.
Peterson was porous? I was there... the whole team was porous.
Wisconsin showed up with a goalie and 5 traffic cones in front of him. Actually, 18 traffic cones. Five would leave the ice and 5 others would take their place, and every one of them were, just traffic cones.
It was not a good day for Badger hockey.

I agree (though I didn't watch), but that's what I said. (Maybe I meant that the whole team helped make him more porous...)

just got home from Chicago....obvs I didn't get to hear the game tonight so is this description accurate? Wisconsin was that terrible? If that's the case then all the talk of this being a run for the FF can get tossed in the trash, especially when you consider...well y'all know what I'm going to say (broken record) experience vs. youth totally overrated.

I wish I could've gotten the radio call (from Milwaukee to Sheboygan, I could only find high school football on the Badger Radio Network stations).

Instead, I just kept getting notifications from my CHN app. BC clearly just had their way with us. They broke our bobbum with they rusty equipmunk.

When we got to Labahn it was 2-0 and UW had 1 sog at the midpoint of the 1st period and Petersen was standing on his head. The score was so embarrassing they didn't even put any updates on the scoreboard, but with smartphones, everyone knew what was going on. Watching 56 sog for the gals was a nice salve for the hockey soul.

Shocked to hear of Rumpel's injury, but I'm very confident in Petersen. The only + from last night was that Miller accounted for himself very nicely in relief.

Not seeing the game, I don't know if the D system overall just had issues defending transition like the UMASS game or what. It isn't like UW hasn't seen great transition teams before (UND, UM, DU) and not played well. Maybe the boys were a little too full of themselves going in, how else can one explain this with such a veteran group who have played in huge win or die games last year? A slice of humble pie every once and a while is a good thing.

I don't want to hear Eaves biitch about a small rink ever again. These guys practice in a small rink every day, and less the Fr have hundreds of college games of experience on small rinks. I could see Besse and Soleway having issues, but the +/- tells me the vets had all sorts of trouble.

Over react much? While they were horrible last night it is one game very early in the season. BC (both team and fans) were all fired up because they honored York, and got out to a quick start (with the help of a couple bad turnovers by UW). After that it just snowballed, down 6-0 2 minutes in to the 2nd.

I don't believe in excuses though and that's what the Jerry York honor thing and fired up fans are in the end, excuses.

9-2 is quite a bombing and according to a poster below the entire team were pylons. Now it's true the 1990 team lost something like 9-1 or 8-2 to NMU one night...that I believe was the point where the team held their famous meeting.

overreact? I don't know. Like I said an "experienced" team getting the **** kicked out of them by a frosh and soph dominated team is a bit surprising/unexpected.

we'll see how they respond tonight

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

quick question...Andy (Chuck) brought up team speed in the BC/UW thread...Is Boston College really that much quicker than the Nodak's and Minnesota's of the world?

Do they (BC) have a team made up entirely of Steve Cygan's? I guess I've always held to the notion that Minnesota traditionally has the best skaters. Am I wrong?

I'm wondering if Wisconsin's apparent speed deficit can be off-set by a new coaching strategy until or unless they begin recruiting little water bugs who can score?

You might as well wait until the Gophers play BC next week to answer that question. The Gophers are pretty fast this year.

I think MN have always had great skating teams

I'll try and tune in to that MN/BC game. And for the record, I'll be cheering for the gophers (err, rats!) to win.

It's not just about being fast, it's the quickness on transition.
