Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Wow - one month ago tomorrow this thread (or another Wisco one) was blowing up with calls for the head of Coach Eaves and the loss to Penn State being the death of Badger hockey. Maybe you can thank our guys for the wake-up call! ;)

Congrats to the team for a great stretch run and good luck to them in the tournament.

After a tough series against the goofs and a must have Hockey City Classic win, I felt like our guys had the heart to make a run. After dismantling PSU in the first game, I felt like they finally were playing their systems the way they were meant to be played and had the skills to make a run, only we didn't finish enough to make it what could have been a double digit win in one of our best performances. When we continued to not finish the next game and found ourselves on the short end of the score in a game we played decent in, something finally clicked in the heads of our scorers and additionally, put an even bigger chip on our shoulders. Just watching Eaves and the boys during that following week, they were completely different. No doubt in my mind that losing to PSU was a key to Bucky's late run.

CHN projections have us playing U-Mass in Manchester regardless of the ND-MI outcome. New Hampshire and either the Pio's or the Moooos on the other side. U-mass has arguably been the best second half team in the country and will be a very tough out.

Great problem to have if Lee is ready to go next week. I don't know what Eaves will do, but Lee was one of the few bright spots mid-season. Guy really has some game and has gotta be chomping at the bit to get in the mix. I hope he's available. Zengerle and McCabe seem to be banged up the most? Hopefully the guys can heal quick this week!

Starting tonight, We've got work to do Badgers!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

We owe it all to you! :D

This doesn't change some (any) of the issues that we were talking about. It just allows us a week or two of respite.

Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is that even winning a Natty probably won't bring a single lost season ticket holder back and we'll probably still lose a bunch of current ones next year. There are still issues, but today, for now, things are good. :)

I lost my "zero conference hardware in a decade" talking point for getting rid of Eaves.

The players who many of us expected to step up at the start of the season have finally done so. The Little-Dahl-Little line might not have the top end talent that the other lines do, but it very much reminds me of the Degenhart-Licari-Bandt line from 05-06 where they just seem to outwork the other team for lose pucks and (this is key) always seem to know where their linemates are.

From where I was sitting, Kerdiles made 4 or 5 great passes that would have resulted in phenomenal scoring chances but for whatever reason no Badger was around. He might see the ice as well as any Badger under Eaves, should he gets in rhythm with some linemates and they could put up some good numbers.

At this point the PP problems are all in the players heads, they think they will struggle and as a result they do struggle. They just need to stop thinking and just follow their instincts. Saw to much thinking and hesitation on the PP and that allowed the PK time to react.

I disagree. Enjoy the moment. Regardless of what happens from here on out, this season would have been a success. So drink wine into the wee hours, eat to your heart's content, and live for today.

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow

We'll always be grateful to you for trading away that point for a Broadmoor. That's the kind of team-first, self sacrifice that has made this improbable stretch run possible. Awesome job of leading by example Alimington!

If there's a better third line in the country than Little, Little Dahl, and Little I don't know where they play. Certainly hard to imagine one that means more to their team, as those guys have been the engine driving this bus. Great observation about how they just know where everyone else is. When they go to work cycling down low, it seems as though they could do it with their eyes closed. Perhaps that's how they practice?

Excellent point burdy. But if you weren't mixing thinner with your home cooked household cleaners, you would realize that today is Sunday. The Broadmoor win was yesterday, capice'?

Yep. No reason to be content or satisfied. Time to get back to work.

It'd be one thing if we had just gotten hot this past weekend, but we've been on a 3 month tear. We're at least semi-legit. Let's see how far we can take this.

I'm also a big believer in teams taking incremental steps before they can win a title. If nothing else, this is a great step heading into next season when we may/should be even better.

Nice post and agree with everything on here. I would also add it was wonderful to see them play with so much passion and confidence throughout the entire lineup. Something I felt has been missing for a while now. It will be fun to see if it can carry them one more game, so if we do play Lowell we can face off with the two best teams over second half of year.

In terms of losing a talking point, I agree. But I also think the financial bath the UW took on the series at the Dane CC with St. Cloud State focused a lot of attention on the problem. I may be wrong on this, but I personally think the tourney was do or die for Eaves. To his credit, they did.

I do what little I can to help the team.

Little, Dahl, and Little sounds like either an accounting practice or law firm.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Looking forward to the possibility of seeing the Badgers in Manchester. Storied program, lot of respect from this 'Cats fan.

Is that the one that involves climbing the mountain, turning the ship around, or forging something at the blacksmiths?
Don't forget the parts about getting some hay in the barn and eating that giant enchilada/gorilla.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

As Chuck reported on his B5Q tweet, the Badgers beat 2 NCAA eligible teams and drop in the Pairwise. WHAT THE ****?:mad:
Going back to this one: our two victories against ranked teams on Thursday and Friday made our NCAA stock go up. Unfortunately, there were plenty of other teams that had their stock go up on Friday as well (courtesy of a lot of upsets).

It's a good reminder that the Pairwise rankings aren't just an indicator of what happened this weekend, but a summation of everything that happens everywhere in the country throughout the entire season.

This doesn't change some (any) of the issues that we were talking about. It just allows us a week or two of respite.
I'm only being a little bit facetious when I say: It's a shame that this happened now, in that it means we have to keep Eaves for a few more years. We'd better get at least a Frozen Four appearance out of this, otherwise we're delaying our eventual rebuilding of the program for nothing.

We'll celebrate this now, and then wonder again in 2014 why our recruiting classes consists of one or two draft-able players and six grinders.

Much appreciated. Hope you enjoy what we bring to the regional (assuming the committee puts us there).

Pretty warped approach "Exile". For God's sake give it a rest already. You just saw one of the great coaching jobs in many a year anywhere in college hockey. Even if they go one and done this has been a great year and a great run. Become a Minny fan if you want pretty hockey. At playoff time it matters little except to grind and tug and gut out wins. Have some respect for success. Your's is a tired old whining story. Those kids sold out and look what they did. Eaves gave them that drive and focus. No one else.

Dumb.

This doesn't change the 5 bad years out of the past 7.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Yeah how dumb, someone who actually wants to cheer for his team instead if complain that they won.

Telling another long time fan to "quit the act" and go cheer for the Gophers is dumb. But you support that?

This win is great and may in fact be a wonderful job of coaching. But where was that wonderful coaching when we missed the tourney 5 out of the past 7 years?

Been to the Kohl Center for a game lately? Do you think this will erase the attendance issues?

Nobody's not supporting the team. In fact, we've all been present through the turmoil. The posters who are critical of where things stand are concerned with the longterm success of the program and not blinded by a half season where a team got hot.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Haven't you guys had some turnover with assistant coaches? I know Osiecki went to OSU. Maybe that's been a factor since the 2010 title game appearance. Perhaps this is a turning point for Eaves and his program. As an outsider, I hope it is. Obviously there's the connection with his sons having played at BC, but more than that...college hockey is better when Wisconsin is good.
