To bad he didnt keep his recipt. Unfortunately, the burden of proof is on the student athlete to show that no improper benefits were received and not on the NCAA to prove that they were.

Lets assume he didn't pay for dinner...Isn't the norm he donates the cost of the dinner to charity and everyone moves on? This can't really be more complicated for hockey then it is for football or basketball.

That's why this is concerning to me. From what we know (keep that in mind), this shouldn't be a big deal.

Hopefully just a matter of timing...maybe this just came to light? NCAA does move in slow and mysterious ways some times.

It wouldn't surprise me if the NCAA wants confirmation that it was just dinner and nothing else. Hopefully, this can be cleaned up with a positive result within the next few weeks.

I understand the whole "gift" thing, but overall the NCAA rule is extreme IMO. You can't buy a kid lunch or a drink (if they are of age), and if you do they could be ineligible to play the sport they love. Awesome!

I totally understand the prevention of Reggie Bush style cars and houses, and I even understood the Shoe Box thing, but I just think that is a lot more to worry about that a meal. If a kid is going to go to go to school X because some guy bought the kid a meal, then good for him. Like a client of mine said to me once, "if you buying me a $10 meal was the reason we worked with you, that doesn't say much about us."

I know this could get out of hand (in what I described), but unless there is something more here, the NCAA is wasting everyone's time. Another reason for a young kid to go Major Junior so they don't have to worry if someone bought them a stick of gum and not being able to play.

The NCAA needs to do something to justify its continued existence.

From Andy Baggot's Twitter: "Wisconsin freshman winger Nic Kerdiles must sit out season, according to NCAA. School is appealing."

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

Yeah, Eaves announced just now that Wisconsin is appealing a one year suspension that the NCAA gave Kerdiles. Wow.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

Ouch. That stinks.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

So, let me get this straight. Cam Newton's dad can shop his kid around to colleges for hundreds of thousands of dollars, but Nic Kerdiles can't eat dinner?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

If this is about failure to produce a receipt for a meal, it completely lacks all proportion and shows once again that people making decisions in the NCAA really have no sense of reality. If there was something more, like facebook or twitter postings about a "relationship" between Kerdiles and the agent, especially any use by the agency for promoting it's own agenda, that's another thing entirely.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

Agreed 100%. If Nic did a bunch of stuff he shouldn't have, then it is what it is.

So is the NCAA required to disclosed the infractions? If so, when will we know the details? If not, why not?

I'm wondering the same thing. The ncaa is an unaccountable organization w/ no checks or balances that are obviously apparent to me. I can't imagine Eaves letting this go unless the NCAA proves their case, nor should he.

This is just another reason for kids to flee the ncaa for major junior. Now they can't eat w/ friends (and their agent/advisor) unless they have a notary there to document the occasion.
