They should honor the 1981 team before the Minnesota outdoor game. :D

In an e-mail from the UW Athletic Dept:

That's pretty cool.

See? Uncle Bear Bear loves us.

They should be doing more of this moving forward. I guess a ceremonial puck-dropper could get old if they do it every game of every season, but it wouldn't hurt to do a few in future seasons.

The Blackhawks have a former player at just about every home game signing autos for an hour or so. They often have heritage nights for former players. They've had a renewed emphasis on the heritage of the organization and it's been very well received down there.

The Badgers could do this on a more limited scale. The video was a good start (and took long enough to do), but more can be done.

Honor the past. It's important.

As long as they're ready for a spike in waterbottle sales.

And as Badgerhawk suggests, do something at a Minnie game--show those guys what tradition really is.

Trying to catch the one who should not be named I see. :)

definitely. It would be cool to see some quick videos from the championship games or teams....maybe snippets of a Richter or CUJO save as well? Driver, Chelios, Heatley clips? there's so many they could change em out each game and still have tons to show

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

It seems like the fiftieth year would be a perfect time to release DVDs of the championship years. I'll never forget that '77 power play, and yet it's been 35 years since I've seen it. They have the video. C'mon, share it with the rest of us.

A lot more, heck anything at all could be done to celebrate our rich history. I always have wondered why they don't do more.

A lot of those past players are in the Madison area and many more are in the Illinois/Wisconsin/Minnesota tri-state area. Shouldn't be too hard to bring in 5 players a season to honor and remember them.

The younglings should know about Gary Suter, Marc Behrend, etc, etc, etc...

Let them drop the first puck, have them sign autos for an hour before the game, show a 5 minute video between periods.

Not hard and would give the A.V. students a nice project to work on.

Totally agree, this stuff never gets old unless it is overdone. Saturate us w/ it this season to celebrate 50 years, and then continue it twice a year or so in the future. I always get chills when they play the awesome opening video before the boys skate out. Wish I would have been alive/old enough to enjoy some of that history in the Bob Johnson era, and would love to see more of it. Showing success can only help bring more success, and get the fans charged.

hell yeah, I'd buy these up in a minute.

1977 was the Theran Welsh led PP, correct? I'm forgetting now. The Shot and A Goal book has a nice chapter on the 77 team and tells how the UW PP that year ****ed off Herbie Brooks so much he said it was a pansy way to play! Badger Bob's philosophy then was "we'll play you even 5 on 5 and beat you on the PP"

"To fill out the rest of the 34-game schedule, the Badgers have contracts to play home series with Alaska-Anchorage, Lake Superior State and Northern Michigan of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, Colorado College of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and NCAA independent Alabama-Huntsville.

UW also will play single games at Boston College and Boston University of the Hockey East Association and a series at Miami of Ohio of the NCHC."

I like the away portion better than the home, but at least it's, for the most part, former CCHA and WCHA programs - even if they aren't the marquee teams.

Could be worse.

I was hoping for better at home too, but I'm guessing in 14/15 we'll see an improvement in home games (Boston teams, maybe Denver) and hopefully North Dakota on the schedule. I thinking it will be time for a road trip or two out east though. Boston in October (assuming the games are then) would be very nice.

I'm actually glad to see Huntsville on the schedule. UW is doing their part keeping that program alive by playing them every year, and I can live with them on the schedule regularly. Also pads some offensive stats, or should pad some offensive stats.

My wife has been bugging me for a weekend in Boston although we'd like to catch a Red Sox game if we go. Still, I like your way of thinking here...

Maybe they'll make the playoffs next year, but you better have a pocket full of cash for one of those tickets.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

Wisconsin's scheduling agreement with North Dakota has always been planned to start with the 2014 season. So the two teams will take one year off from playing each other (I don't know why).

Wisconsin will host North Dakota, Michigan Tech, and Boston University in 2014-15. They will also play single games @ Denver and @ CC.

In 2015-16, UW goes back to Grand Forks, and plays singles at BU/BC. They host Denver.

In 2016-17, UW hosts Boston College and North Dakota, and I would assume play singles at CC and Denver.

See the trend?

In between you're going to see a lot of teams mixed in, but if you see North Dakota, BU/BC, Denver, CC on your schedule every year in addition to the Big Ten schedule...it's hard not to be happy.

I'll find a way. :p

Kidding. Actually that looks SO much better than many of us were worried about. Thought it'd be a lot of cupcakes. I don't mind a cupcake here and there, but I don't want hockey to end up like football. Looks like it won't, at least in the near future.

BTW, have two nice seats for tomorrow's crappy football game...

If it turns out to be as crappy as the Northern Iowa and Utah State games, I would consider going if I were you. ;)

Just because a game is close - doesn't make it a good game.

My time, especially on a weekend, is worth more than that. ;)
