Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

Had a chance to jokingly ask Gwoz if he wants Eaves' job in Green Bay over the weekend, but even if he would've been the type to see it as a joke (weren't they roommates in college?), I think asking him that when Denver's down by 1 in the third period of an NCAA tourney game would've been a little dickish.

On a more serious note: yes, Eaves absolutely should be taking notes from Jerry York. *swallows pride* Probably Hakstol, too.

In other news: maroon and gold makes my blood boil, so I think I'll haplessly cheer for Union in the Frozen Four.

What you don't like Ferris State's extremely boring style of hockey? I give them credit their defense and trap execution is great, and they have just enough offense to win, but it is brutal hockey to watch. I think Denver would have beat them on friday if they hadn't played 6 games the previous two weekends, including 3 of those in OT.

Glad I'm not going to the FF now. Between minnesota's extreme arrogance, and Ferris State's put you to sleep hockey, I would just sit on the beach and burn (from the sun) with my Union Hockey shirt on.

Meh. Cornell really did kind of wet the bed with sloppy play. If Cornell could hold onto the puck or move it creatively to save their lives, they're in the Frozen Four.

Agreed, never seen so many pucks skip over sticks in a game before. Cornell's powerplay reminded me of the Badgers...and that is not a compliment.

Eaves must build a consistent contender. Some teams have proven it's not impossible. Next year is the first step.

I'm rooting for Ferris St., they are the champ on my bracket.

Schultz didn't make the top 3, that's too bad. If there is an NHL lock-out this year, there is a chance he'll come back. The NHL would be foolish to go down that road again, but I'm more into college hockey, so if a lockout means he's coming back, I'm all for it.

Baggot also made it sound like Rammer is on the fence about coming back.

Disappointed that Schultz didn't make the Hat Trick, but no other defenseman did, which would have really ****ed me off.

Can Craig Smith come back too if there is a lockout? He could be a senior! I don't see that happening (the lockout) the NHL can't afford to lose face AGAIN after what happened the last time.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

While it's highly unlikely that there is a prolonged lockout, a brief work stoppage is a very realistic possibility. The NHL players receive 57% of the revenue. The owners aren't stupid, they saw what happened with the NBA players being forced to take a 50/50 market share recently. While the NHL overall revenues are up as a whole, it's basically the rich getting richer and the poor teams are continually losing money. But as overall revenues increase, so does the salary cap...which in turn puts those franchises that aren't doing well financially at an even bigger disadvantage.

And the salary floor keeps rising also, putting more pressure on the lower revenue teams. IIRC, in the first year of CBA, the cap was ~$39 million, last year the floor was ~$45 million.

Interesting Baggott article on why Schultz hasn't signed yet.

Evidently, if there's an NHL lockout, he'll probably come back, even.

Edit: Okay, Tim A sort of covered this for me. I got stuck on a 35+ minute support call which sucked.

When there was a work stoppage before the AHL was still in play right? Many NHL ready prospects really benefited that year like Parise and Vanek to get some experience before joining the big boys. That could be a possibility. I like watching him play but just saying.

You're correct. We like watching him too, man among boys at times (and not in the Penn State way), but he's ready, so no worries.

If we get him for another year, it will be a miracle and a very happy fanbase.

Jeez, for me this is the least interested I have been in the college post season that I can remember. Is it just me?

There is WAY too much marooon in the frozen 4. Isn't that dark red color on Union's uni another shade of maroooon?

It would just be the WORST THING EVAH if the rodent boys won the same year the girls did. I don't know if I could live through that. Well, I would if it happens, but it would be awful to the millionth degree.

it alomost makes me want to root for BC in the semi.

Speaking of the girls...how did Amanda Kessel end up at Minnesota? I seem to remember the spin in Phil's recruitment being if only Mark Johnson were the coach...Phil would be at UW.

Probably helps that Amanda is not Phil. Recall, the testicular cancer wasn't THAT bad.
