Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Kerdelis looked pretty good. Certainly looks physically ready to play college right now.

55 & 9 made a pair of gaffs that ended up in the back of our net that you would be ****ed to see a Squirt make, much less a college soph/junior one of which wears a letter. 55 looked like he just threw the puck right down the middle of the ice without really looking (at least I did not see any Badger there that he COULD have been thinking he was passing to). 9 trying to stick handle through 2 forecheckers just inside the blueline with under 10 seconds left in the period was especially painful to watch. I suppose 9 gets the benefit of the doubt, but 55 seems to be a pattern that reflects in his team worst -11.

I didn't get a chance to see the game but that has become a trend with 55 this season. He played his worst half of hockey this fall since he's been a Badger. He needs to step up big time in the second half if the Badgers have any chance at making some noise.

I don't know what it is w/Ramage this year. he's killing this team w/5 own goals and poor decisions.

Maybe Eaves should bench him for a game or two and see if that wakes him up a bit. Bad luck happens to everyone but this is a trend not a 1 weekend thing unfortunately.

I've also noticed #9 trying to do too much at times w/stick handling. I think the message is SHOOT more not stick handle in a phone booth w/2 guys on you...unless of course you're #27 Steven Reinprecht who seemed to be able to do that all the time and made people look silly trying to stop him

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

I don't mind Zengerle doing his thing generally as he is very skilled. You just can't try to stick handle through 2 guys just inside your own blue line at that time and situation. If you simply chip the puck out into the neutral zone and force the 17 year old kids to tag up onsides, you go to the locker room with no harm. Fortunately, Zengerle has not been prone to those kind of brain farts.

Agree, Ramage really needs to step up in the second half for the Badgers to do anything more then finish around .500.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Oh yeah, hockey tonight, on the BTN network. I am ready for the big push.

Tentative lineup

F LaBate-Mark Zengerle-Tyler Barnes
F Michael Mersch-Lee-Matt Paape
F Brad Navin-Jefferson Dahl-Keegan Meuer
F Jason Clark-Brendan Woods-Sean Little

D Frankie Simonelli-Justin Schultz
D Jake McCabe-John Ramage
D Eric Springer-Joe Faust
G Joel Rumpel/Landon Peterson

Good to see Clark on the ice, I wonder how he'd look on the first line in LaBate's spot. Didn't see who was getting the start in goal, my gut tells me Rumpel, he kind of took over at the end of first half of the season.

Let's go RED!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

No, I don't watch a lot of Wild games.

Which actually leads to a question - We're big college hockey/Wisconsin fan and go to quite a few Admirals games here in Milwaukee, but we just can't seem to get into the NHL. Maybe it's the lack of games broadcast on local TV, but we just don't get excited about NHL games. We'll throw one on if we see it on Versus, but that's it. So Wisconsinites, how do you grow your NHL fandom?

AHL attendance: Keep in mind the Admirals have had been playing very competitlvely for awhile now and the attendance average is still pretty low.

I use to live in Richfield- Germantown, personally I think it would work, regardless of the critics. BUT, I think having the 4 bigs in the midwest, (namely wi and mn), is a challenge, theres always an endless stadium/arena issue (tax dollars etc), then theres the fact that its two pretty small market sizes in comparison to the east etc.. I think its a pain in the rear, sometimes I wish the Wolves would have left MN just to ease up on the Big 4 in a small market issue.

But Hockey starts at the youth level, I think if WI puts more into that, there should be no reason hockey wouldn't grow there..

But as far as growing the fandom, I think thats in the works now, Butters recruiting instate should help alot, I hope to see that continue.

Classy team you guys got.

Crappy team you guys got. Our guys were bored out of their skulls and still wiped up the ice. I've never been so bored watching my team score six goals and win.

Of course I'm assuming that you're an RIT fan and mad about the scrum at the end after your guy skated half the ice to board Dahl.

Get better and our players won't be laughing at you during the game.

if you refer to the end of the game, the little RIT guy and McCabe collide (wherein the RIT guy left his skates I'd add) and McCabe sort of glanced off of him but the little guy was ****ed and skated from behind the UW net to the RIT bench to board Dahl...that my friend is CLASS

other than that it was a clean game.

RIT won the first period and at times made UW look ridiculous and lazy...then UW woke up in the 2nd and 3rd and did what they should have done in the 1st. step on the gas.

Got me on that one, cute lil play on words there

Anyways, I'm sure it was very boring you, musta been awful. I thought personally both teams played great, but RIT's PK's and their penalties in general lost them the game. You gotta admit though, Wisc. was throwing around some questionable hits towards the end for being up by 3 goals, and Dahl's was just ridiculous. Good hit nonetheless haha, just unneeded

Thanks! I can't make out what I am a piece of, but I like to think you wrote "gold." :)

At least you didn't lose by 7 this time. Baby steps...

The game was not boring, in fact it was very fun to watch. I don't know where the questionable hits came into play. Dahl was the one who was hit against the boards, so I'm not sure if you're trying to blame him for getting hit? I'm confused?

Hey, how many scholarship kids do you have? I'm just curious, because I'm sure it's more than 7. It takes a big man to act like his scholarship-laden, well established D1 team is the best thing since Gretzky and our up and coming, ZERO scholarship team is just a piece of garbage. Considering the questionable calls and a few mental mistakes, the game tonight was a lot closer than it should have been given the above mentioned and how great you think you are.

By the way, our school was the best represented and by far the most proud of any at the Frozen Four. How was the Wisconsin team treated when they got back from that embarrassment to BC? Somehow I doubt it was hundreds of screaming fans at 2am.

I never said any of that. This is actually a down year for us.

I just said we're better than you. A LOT better than you.

It only takes one game to shut a smug old man like you up.

We've beaten better teams than you already this year, just take a look at last weekend's scores.

He's from Mosinee. The cumulative effect of breathing in the fumes while cleaning the floors of the paper mill has taken its toll. If you lived in that horse crap town, you'd be ****ed at the world too. Pity the old man.

Well just think, if pigs fly and you win tomorrow, you'll be able to rush to your computer and tell me what's what!

It'll be your greatest day ever and I will have contributed to it by being smug and elitist tonight.

That is if you can call me smug and elitist for shooting down a troll who came into our thread and called us classy and then you for calling me a piece of gold.

I had pretty much already forgotten that we played you guys tonight until you two showed up.

Good luck tomorrow as I'm sure it means more to you than me.

Do you always cry about scholarship numbers when you lose to a scholarship laden team? Let me guess, then when you beat a scholarship laden team, you get all wound up about how it's so great your David beat Goliath. You must know the old Chinese proverb "don't bring a knife to a gun fight". Hey, I like being the underdog too, but be the underdog with class.

The game.....UW played bad for large parts of the first period and sections of the second, that was disappointing because they had a warm up game last week. No excuses. RIT played well in stretches, so it was a back and forth affair, though in the end UW carried more of the play than RIT. The fact it took the refs SO long to get the penalties straight at the end was terrible.

Broadcast: Worse yet, the BTN broadcast never said what those above penalties were. Pathetic. Even worse, the BTN never listed the assists on any of the goals. I had no idea Z had an assist until they said he had an 18 gane point streak. It's like the BTN is doing hockey as an after-thought and the producers need to be fired. I wonder of the broadcast was called from the BTN studio in Chicago again, like the last UW BTN game was. It's totally pathetic Andriga had to leave Madison, where the game was, and drive to Chicago to do that game. The BTN was so much freaking money, spend a little on hockey, will ya?
