Wisconsin Hockey Vol I: Dawn of the Fifth Age of UW Hockey!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol I: Dawn of the Fifth Age of UW Hockey!

The ratings would still be disappointing.

Go Phil!

Agreed, and IMO the NBA sucks *** and people still watch and sports talk radio has 99.9% BB talk and very little hockey. NBA games aren't entertaining to me and have been blow outs, unlike the S.C. finals.

For personal reasons I DO want Phil to help win it, but it would be ****ing awesome for Joe Pavelski to bring The Cup with him to LaBahn Arena next Saturday for the Blake Geoffrion Classic.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol I: Dawn of the Fifth Age of UW Hockey!

Please do.

Bonus points if you can find any instances of the Crease Creatures singing "Lights" or "Total Eclipse of the Heart".

I was finally able to get the recordings off the DVR. Looking at old message board posts, I had been trying to get those HD recordings off that DVR on and off for the last 9 years.

The files are 720P recordings (as that was ESPN's format at the time) and are about 15 to 20GB with all of the commercials and such. I'll work on doing some more editing in the coming days to see if I can get the sizes down a bit more.

I did see some stuff from the Crease creatures during the recordings, but not a ton. I'll see if I can find more though.

Awesome for Schultz to hoist the cup! Even more awesome is now my son has the jersey of a Stanley Cup champ, his first one, or he will on his birthday in a few days. Of course the jersey is an Edmonton jersey, got it on clearance after he was traded. :) Yeah I'm a tightwad. Or just very smart.

Roll call of who is going Saturday evening.....

Wish I could, but we leave Saturday for a week long pike/musky fishing extravaganza in N WI. That is the ONLY thing that could have kept me away from this game.

No Bronzebacks or Walleye?

No Bronzebacks or Walleye?

The lake we go to (Pickerel by St. Germain) is predominately a pike lake, we love to pike fish. There are some dandy lmb that we catch accidentally pike fishing, I got a 20 last year. There are a few walleyes in the lake, but I'm not a polished walleye fisherman, so I don't target them, sometimes we catch one accidentally pike fishing, maybe one every other year. Smallies are present, we've caught 1 in 10 years of fishing, a 19. We catch a couple ski every year, nothing big (under 30) but we've seen some sows, so we know they are there. We typically fish small lures, #3 mepps, smaller spinnerbaits, 3 to 4" stick baits. We need to size up our lures for the big ones, crack open the musky box, but it's a lot of fun catching 20 to 30 pike a day on the smaller stuff, so I have a hard time getting that big stuff out. The pike size ranges from a fish stick to low 30's, the average fish is probably 20". If you can find the crappie schools you can catch tons of them, but the size is a tad small 7" or less. Last year we did a little targeted perch fishing (my other favorite to target besides pike, need to try Mendota this year for them...and smallies) and caught some decent ones. I better finish getting the boat packed.....I know all the Badger fans will enjoy the "game" tonight, I am literally aching inside not going, I just feel sick about it. I love UW hockey and fishing all the same, my 2 passions next to family and God.

On Wisconsin!

So did Paul Ranheim play in the game?

Man it would be great if they could someday bring in chelios, driver, Stanton, maley, Gary suter, Carey, Zent, schier, rafalski, plante, Winchester, Tuttle et al.... I know that's nostalgia and these first 3 have already been amazing in terms of talent but hey, a guy can dream

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol I: Dawn of the Fifth Age of UW Hockey!

I couldn't go, but a friend of mine went and said that Coach Eaves got a good reception. Glad to hear it.

The overall tone of the event was pretty mellow compared to the first one (I was there) and what I saw/heard of the second one (missed because of a family event)
No surprise guests, no celebrity announcers.
A couple of people didn't make it. Pavelski, Suter, Kerdiles to name a few.
They did the meet and greet before the game this year and that was kind of nice, but one of the buses was delayed and some of the guys got there really late and some of the guys didn't show up at all. There was a huge line for Richter, but I don't think he ever showed, but he was at the game. Another big line was for Pavs.
I got to sit right behind Richter on the bench, he seemed to be smiling most of the time. They had him playing D. It took 2 tries, buy Jurusik finally let him score on a penalty shot.
At the end of the day it was a huge amount of talent getting together for a great cause. Lots of empty seats though...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol I: Dawn of the Fifth Age of UW Hockey!

Had a great time as usual, but was disappointed in the player no shows, but I'm sure there were good reasons. MCR Jr, the daughter, kept commenting how "Awesome, tan, and ripped" Adam Burish looked with his sweater off. I told her, "I guess so, but he's not my type. (He does look good though!). ;)

Coach Eaves DID get a nice reception. People around me, including me, gave him a standing O. As a goalie honk, it was tremendous for me to see Mike Richter again, although I had to politely correct the gentleman next to me who told his wife Mike Richter
was Barry's older brother.

I don't know if it will bear any fruit for the BGHC games, but I was told by a reliable source that Granato made a very pointed effort to track down every UW Hockey player and send them a personal letter. I think there could be great things over the next few gears with engaging the former players to get the current and new fans excited about hockey again.

That's awesome news. Sounds like Tony Granato has a chance to really pull together the alumni as well as fans new and old as you mention.

I think it's critical he succeed in this endeavor along with the on-ice product. I have no doubt whatsoever that he can make it happen

Wow you don't often hear guys as candid as Kunin was. Already has his future planned. One more year at Wisconsin and on to the NHL. He seemed very confident.
