WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, What?

I keep seeing comments like this. Zullinik hadn't contributed anything before his injury. The team was off to a slow start even with Zengerle.

We're only actually missing Zengerle in terms of known assets as we haven't seen Kerdilles yet.

We should be around .500 with the injuries.

Pathetic.

That's what I said. No UW team should be worse than 5-2-2 at this point in the season with this schedule, injuries or no injuries.

The breakout and play in our zone is so hard to watch. I sit in our defensive end for two periods. Horrifying.

At least you get to see the play in your end for two periods, the poor people on the other end only get to see one period up close.

I'm starting to think that the cupboard wasn't quite to bare when Sauer left as it appeared that first season, I have a feeling that many more coaches would have gotten much more out of that cast of characters than Eaves managed to.

A good friend of mine was adamant those last couple of years that he wouldn't go see the Badgers until Sauer was gone. I'm starting to feel something similar.

It's really not a fun brand of hockey to watch, even when it's working.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, W

I do hope Matt Walsh leaves a mark on this program though and I think it's possible he can be a long-term hire. playing for Grant Standbrook (under Sauer) has to have left an indelible impression

I hope not. Had Walsh as a coach on the Team Wisconsin Chicago Showcase team. Granted this was over 10 years ago, but he didn't exactly knock it out of the ballpark with the players. Like others have mentioned he is very knowledgeable, but the guy has NO personality. He came across as slightly smug and arrogant and we always felt like he had something better to do. Wisconsin's problem right now is recruiting. I just have a hard time believing he could turn that around. And do we really want two assistants with a combined total of 2 years of recruiting experience? Seems like the a decent interim hire though. A guy that's fairly knowledgeable that would be a good practice coach that was immediately available.

If Eaves makes it through to next year, I would be a little disappointed if he was retained. We would then have two coaches with virtually no experience coaching/recruiting at the college level. This is Wisconsin. I think we could do better then that. Unless he starts snagging recruits left and right in the next few months, I want a more experienced coach.

I can't argue with you on the recruiting as it pertains to forwards. it's been a joke. every time I saw the recruit list and verbal commitments the last few years with guys who have no history of scoring goals it was just baffling.

then you get guys who are supposed to score (Lee, Labate, Navin, Barnes) at least according to their hype, and they don't end up making a significant impact.

UW hockey - "we used to be great!"

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, W

Just did a quick check, 5 teams have more GOALS than the Badgers have total points. SAD !!!

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, W

Walsh is in a no win recruiting situation. How can he be expected to do anything great when he sits in a living room and tells a kid to come to WI when he probably won't be there next year (we all know the competition will use that against UW). That interpersonal recruit/recruiter connection will not be there. It isn't like he can purely sell how successful of a program UW is. Maybe he just scouts and sets up appointments for Eaves? This isn't good considering how bare the cupboard is and how empty the shopping cart is.

One can point out that this team is missing good leadership, which is an assumption, we have no idea what the lockeroom make-up is, but even if you stick Burish or Rohlik on this team in their prime as college leaders, their leadership isn't going to double the amount of goals scored by this team. UW needs more elite scorers. And sometimes these elite scorers are your awesome leader types as well.

I like Zulinick's pedigree and the fact that he's a Canuck and not some kid right out of HS. It's pretty clear the right of of HS kids are not ready for the bigtime and all needed a yr of USHL. Hopefully this won't screw up Besse too.

Gurt is right, with the injuries UW should be at .500 holding the fort down til the cavalry gets there. Right now when the cavalry gets there, the ones who they came to bail out will be dead.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, W

I drove in from central Michigan partially to attend the game last night. Took the entire family. Embarrassing. This team should not be mistaken as highly skilled. Given what I saw I'm surprised they got a point from Minnesota. Constantly beat to pucks, constantly losing puck battles, and losing far too many face offs. This team will not get home ice and will be eliminated in the first round on their final year in the WCHA. The ice is getting thinner Mike. Getting swept at home with a loss tonight is a distinct possibility, and a start like this is simply unprecedented. We might need the likes of Pat Richter, because I don't think Alvarez cares enough to notice until the money dries up. By then the damage will be significant, both with boosters, fans, and most significantly in recruiting circles. I hope I'm wrong, but the empirical evidence over the last few years is beginning to suggest otherwIse.

Well, I was going to make a "move away from the cliff" type post, but, after last night's effort I just can't do it. The team looked terrible, pure and simple.

I'm not ready to tar and feather Eaves quite yet, but this team needs to improve, and quickly.

Sad but true. Eaves has to go simple as that.

as well put as I've seen on here. I'm sorry you traveled that far to see that joke of a performance man.

I feel Zulinick needs a solid year in the wieght room. He seems to have some talent and hockey sense, but gets pushed around a bit too much. He is one player that hopefully has some upside in the years to come.

What happened to the Blue Line Club? When I was growing up going to the DCC, I always remember the banners for it. Then it just kinda disappeared.....where did it go?

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, W

Um, I don't know if this will shine much light on the gloom in this thread, but Mankato is really good. Since the SCSU stinkers they have more than held their own against the top two teams in the league. I watched a fair amount of the Gopher series and they flat out carried play offensively for decent stretches of those games. Surprising given this was against the consensus hand em the trophy loaded team. Then they lose two one goal games against Denver where they outshot them 36-20 (13-1 in the third period) and 32-23. Mankato is up and coming. Of course, Wisconsin should never be 7th in the league or worse three years in a row.

They'll be higher than 7th in their league next year, I guarantee it.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, W

1-7-2

and @ Denver next. this could get VERY ugly before it's over

Eaves better hold himself to the same standards that has had him run 1/2 dozen players off the team. No excuses. Acknowledge the **** poor effort, the lousy talent, etc., etc., etc.,

Nic Kerdiles - just go out and have fun next week, it's all you can do, you can't put the entire team of grinders on your shoulders and take them over the line to the NCAA's, Dany friggin Heatley couldn't do it either if he came in right now. So just go out and have fun and forget about the record. You'll feel better about it all

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, W

Stefon Williams is a ******.

All I have to say.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, W

ha ha ha...Nate Condon scores for MN, Brock Montpetit w/4 assists with Omaha and Jeff Costello from Waukesha on Notre Dame scored a goal.

Listening to Eaves now. yeah, moral victories baby, moral victories. You tried hard but lost. and you have your dumb speech about turning the boat.

ALL THAT COUNTS MIKE TO US FANS WHO ARE SEASON TICKET HOLDERS AND BADGER BOOSTERS ARE EFFING WINS!

got it? WINS. You don't get those, then get the hell out. Go ahead and tell Brian Engblom how you won the game tonight...morally.
