Re: Wisconsin Hockey T*M2=NCA2*7

Red and White scrimmage last night, Red wins 5-2. Blomquist for Red Hayton for White, Berry out of town for a wedding.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey T*M2=NCA2*7

Possible new skater on board, Oscar Skiöld. He's enrolled for the spring semester and has asked to get on the ice. 112 pts in 96 games for the Jersey Hitmen. Probably a practice guy one would think.

Bonus points for use of the umlaut, Tim! The NHL and World Juniors have been keeping my fire lit during our hiatus.

I'm looking forward to January; going to the United Center for the Badger - Neutered Dame game on the 21st, and heading to Xcel Energy Center via Rochester to pick up MCR Jr for a Jets - Wild game on the 13th.

Mmmmmmm hockey!

I must give credit to cut and paste for the umlaut, though I was very happy it caught that.

Greenway played in the exhibition last weekend, will he play for real? Maybe at this point a redshirt makes the most sense if he wants to extend his eligibility if what he is going through qualifies for that.

I hope he plays, but if not, certainly red shirt him! Probably just nosey, but I'd really like to know what happened from the "shiners" to not playing all fall.

Let's start out the new year with a nice sweep of Ped State. I really do think the boys had time to think about the last 3 months and will play much better.

Happy New Year and **** 'em Bucky.

That is good news. We need all hands on deck to row this puppy.......oops.......that's embarrassing in more ways than one. I had not realized UW used the same D pairs all year, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I don't think he's going to get major ice time at this point, he was a little bit of a liability in the D zone last year and with not much ice time this season it may be hard to fit him in.

A redshirt doesn't make much sense as the blue line is only getting deeper in talent going forward. Miller, Emberson, and the Krygier's all are likely drafted this Summer and could potentially even go higher then Greenway did in his draft year. Of guys actually playing a meaningful role, you lose Linhart and maybe Tischke decides pro hockey is worth taking his best attempt at. Greenway would be best served getting on the ice and improving his decision making which at times was not very good last year.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey T*M2=NCA2*7

This break just sucks the life out of you.

Hopefully they are able to integrate Greenway into the mix. I know that he struggled at times last year, but he could be a great defenseman if they let him keep developing.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey T*M2=NCA2*7

We've got hockey in 2 days and MCR and I are on a two man forecheck here. How about some support? The action in this thread is as dull as the women's thread and there's maybe 2 of us who post over there on a "regular" basis.

Let's go RED!

You're on your own for a little bit; I just got 5 for fighting.

I figured it would be mid- to late week before it picked up with the holidays falling when they did. I read another story today about Oscar Skiöld, who Tim brought up earlier.

EDIT: :( On a very sad note, I just heard on the radio that Ella's Deli in Madison is closing at the end of the month. I usually don't give a rat's *** about eateries in town closing, but this one hurts. I was there when I was a kid; my kids were there when they were kids. We directed visiting youth hockey teams and other organizations there all the time. There is NOBODY in town that can prepare a Rueben, matzo ball soup, bialys, kugel like Ella's can; it always brought back memories of my grandparents. This was truly a fantastic Jewish deli. :(

Re: Wisconsin Hockey T*M2=NCA2*7

Hopefully Greenway can get back to form quickly. He could be a great defenseman if he learns where to be physical and not take retaliation type penalties. He is a physical force they need on the ice, IMO.

Really sorry to hear that. There are certain places in Madison that I will always remember and Ella's is one of them. Such a distinctive place.

I'm skating solo? BRING IT! Once my elder son's Peewee B manager screwed up not providing birth certificates for the State Tourney and they had 6 skaters plus him the goalie (the ones who had copies of the certs with them). I do believe they only lost 2-0 and after the game they all piled on my son like they won the Stanley Cup, it was cool, brings a tear to my eye.

I'd like to buy it, I've always wanted to be in the restaurant business, but there's no way I'm coming up with 1.2 million. I wonder if their revenue can support the monthly operating costs plus the mortgage. At 1.2 million, I'm doubting it.

He was third in the USPHL in points last year. Guys above him and below him in points all had scholarships. Places like Northeastern, Arizona State and Army (I know Army technically doesn't give scholarships, but you know what I mean....). It will be interesting to see if he gets added to the roster and if that has any ripple effects on potential incoming recruits.

There have been two stories in a couple of days really talking about Granato's cache as a coach....a player of Oscar Skiöld's caliber coming to UW on his own just trying to walk on due to Granato and the staff's connections as well as the fact that Granato communicated with the Maple Leafs about Greenway's issues and instead of them pulling Greenway out of UW they allowed him to stay and work through whatever was going on.

Excellent insight.

I really dislike Penn St.

So no Freddy and Zimmer and JD is on the plane.

Hmmm.... Let's say $1.5m to cover a few updates and some operating capital. That costs about $250/day. No idea what business has been like as of late, but certainly in the past that would have been a pretty easy nut to crack at Ella's. Work like a dog, but be your own boss. Maybe you should buy it!

They always say if you want to make a little money, start a restaurant with a lot of money.

Part of the 1.2 million includes a rental property to go along with the restaurant. It's a bargain at TWICE the price.

That's why I recommend using OPM to start a restaurant. But yes, a bargain! Tim should definitely buy it. Mainly so I can still stop in for a giant stacker melt thingy next time I'm in Madison.

It is looking a lot like no Badger Captain = No WJ gold yet again. When will they learn!?

Since it seems that JD's issues were probably life/maturity types of things, I'd say it's probably best all around that he stayed in school in a more controlled environment. Life's even harder to sort out while riding on a junior team bus, or even moreso, on a pro bus. Kudos to JD too for sticking it out and getting things right. Cost him a lot to not be playing as he had an outside chance at the WJ team if he was really good the first half. Takes guts to hang in there in a tough situation and do what you have to do when he could have bolted on his own. Could be the best thing that ever happened to him in the long run. He has as much (probably more) just plain raw ability as any D we've had here in a long time.

The question as to who JD will be replacing in his debut has been answered: No one. Tony's going with 7 D tomorrow night.

Going to be tough environment but this team needs points desperately.

WJ's play at 4pm in the Bronze medal game. If we had a helicopter standing by, Freddy could still make the puck drop 200 miles away at Pegula tomorrow night!

The way Madison is booming it could be worth twice the price. I always think of the sayings "you have to have money to make money" or "the rich get richer". I could easily own/run my own business from a talent, experience and work ethic standpoint, but at this point in my life I like my cushy 6-4 job and the financial stability, LOL. The only business I'd want to own at this point is a fishing resort on a good musky lake, but THAT wouldn't be expensive to buy would it? LOL x 2

Anyway, it's a great day for hockey. I don't like the color combo of blue and white. Let's see a lot of red people hugging each other tonight. I predict Berry in goal. They brought 7 D along, trying to work JD onto the ice, but man he has to be rusty, I don't like the risk at this point. UW needs to win, no more oopsies.
