Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

No UW hockey on WPT this year. UW wanted $50,000 per game, perhaps a price increase? Whatever the reason, it's a sad deal.

It is a sad deal. End of an Era in UW Hockey. With the B1G streaming, even replaying them late probably isn't workable.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

I'd say Baker is a lock to be in the line up. Ustaski is more of a 4th liner in my opinion. Davison and Ess will split the final D-man spot. Wouldn't be surprised to see Linhart take either Kalynuk or Inamoto and Tischke to take the other. A Davison and Greenway pairing would be a big turnover concern.

I'm only putting Ustaski up because I want him to play with Dhooghe and Sean's probably a top six kid. Big Matt could be anywhere, even out. Tony like him though... What I like is that he creates a lot of problems on the ice for the other guys.

Good insight on the D. I'd like Linhart Tishke against the other guys top lines a lot, plus I think with Peter, Jake can get up in the play and take more chances. Maybe with Inamoto he could by mid season too though...

I'm going with the idea that everyone will be better. I think Linhart and Davison got much better as the year went on. I like Timmy so much as a person that I admit I'm just hoping he's improved enough without the puck that he can play and be an offensive threat from the top.

Inamoto was hurt in August with the WJ's. I assume he's recovered?

I find it hard to beleieve the replays are all that relevant to fans these days. The free streams, on the otherhand, were awesome.

Also, FS-WI continuing to pick up games is a good change. I know they did last year, but that snapped a long streak of zero games per year, excluding gophers and Michigan/MSU broadcasts that were simulcasted.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Kalynuk brings a lot of experience to the table, I wouldn't be shocked if he was a top 4 guy. I see a lot of Ryan McD in Tischke. Greenway needs to play smart. They really need a couple offensive D to put pressure on teams in the O zone & PP Ala B Smith or going 90's retro, Sean Hill.

Just to clarify, I read Milewski as saying UW asked for bids as to how many games somebody would broadcast for $50k total (not per game.) I take it as meaning UW put up $50k. I think? I know UW subsidized WPT in the past for broadcasts, but I don't know to what extent.

WPT didn't submit a bid at all, so it seems they weren't all that interested in having Hockey on the air this year.

I know that I was very interested in the 7-part cross-stitching documentary series that they were running in its place for the last few years.

Are you sure that isn't from the latch hook retrospective?

It is CLEARLY cross-stitch!

Fortunately for you there will be plenty of programming space on WPT to rebroadcast episodes 1-7 so you can educate yourself.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Seems Todd's article has been updated with more details explaining that the decision to not bid wasn't WPT's. "WPT was invited to bid but didn't, director of marketing and communications Michael Harryman said. He cited a UW Regents policy on competition with the private sector that he said doesn't allow state agencies like WPT to participate in bidding that has been opened to private companies."

So, because we are all about private corporations making money on the broadcasts, WPT could not bid. Brilliant.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Congrats to Kid Els for his induction into the UW Athletics Hall of Fame. Great that he could be there. (I'm guessing he's not the last inductee From that 2006 team.) His tournament performance in '06 ranks at or above the clutch Marc Behrend's '81 and '83 2x tournament MVP as the greatest ever. His tremendous performance in the the 3 OT Cornell game remains the greatest hockey game I've ever been at.

And congrats to the Suter Family on the induction of the legendary Bob Suter. Here is a very touching tribute to Bam by his son Ryan. Bob was simply an amazing person.

Wow - just read Ryan's tribute. Pretty sure someone was cutting onions near me by the time I got to the end.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Milewski tweeted the lines in practice today:

Wagner Frederic Weissbach
Ustaski Hughes S Dhooghe
Zimmer Malone Johnson
Ford Baker Labosky
Freytag Zirbel Dhooghe*

Kalynuk Linhart
Ess Tischke
Davison Inamoto

Hurley Sexton , Bunz

* 24- S Dhooghe was listed twice, I'm guessing this is Jason. Strike that. Jason has an ankle injury and is day to day. Sean doing double duty I guess.

No Greeneway listed? I don't know why. Strike this too. Greeneway is out for Sunday. dealing with "personal problems" Which I read as he screwed up somehow.

I am surprised Inamoto is on the 3rd pairing. Also, I'm like Linhart's biggest non-fan so him on the 1st pairing makes me cringe. I really like the 3rd line; underrated but will win "us" a bunch of games.

5'3" Sean Dhooghe is going to be a fan favorite. I can almost guarantee it.

I'm good with the F lines. Switch Freddy and Hughes and I was correct on the top 9. Because I'm a frickin' hockey genius. But we all knew that. Tony will change it up a lot as we go along anyway.

Linhart gets no respect. 3rd in the B1G in points last year behind two guys that are in the AHL under contract with the Islanders and Rangers today and ahead of a lot of big time recruits. I get that we had two years of defensive lapses to go along with the good things he does, but last year he took a huge stride in D play and confidence. Watch that 2-1 win over OSU in the B1G Tourney last year to see how far he's come without the puck. Time to get on the bandwagon as Jake is going to drive the bus from the back end a lot this year. He doesn't have great skates but he's got chops and heart. He can be really good this year.
