Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Is anyone concerned the loss of Donny and hiring of Mark Strobel will hurt the offense. Strobel was a defenseman as was Oz. I have thought about this and wonder if the change will hurt things offensive wise.

I don't think it should matter. With the coaching that we have in place and the players coming through on D we should only need 2 goals per game to win!

Heard coach Granato on the radio today and he said they're going to attack again per Don's advice from last season. It's a better way to build confidence and trust apparently.

It probably doesn't matter as much but both Oseicki and Strobel played at UW under a more offense minded coach in Sauer.

What did what did the forwards tell Jim Carey? Hold em' to 3 and we'll win?

After listening to the interview, I am more concerned about the DG/MS swap. Per TG in the interview, when hired, TG thought they should play a defensive style and try to win close low scoring games to build confidence. DG thought they should play an attacking, aggressive style to build confidence. TG was persuaded to go with the attacking system and the result exceeded our wildest expectations. TG wants his assistant coaches to challenge him and not be bobbleheads/yes men. MS will challenge him, but there is nothing like a challenge from a sibling who you've battled all through life with from one the ice to on a boat and everywhere in between vs an outsider. I for one did under-valued what DG brought to the table. Obviously he's a brilliant hockey mind, that's why the Hawks wanted him though they really didn't have a role for him at that point. (Do they now?) I'm sure MS will do a fine job, but he's going to be taught more by TG than he will give to TG, and with DG that was not the case. I don't think scoring will be down because of the swap, but there will be a loss of tactical detail in training and in games that will be missed. I think we're going to see DG be a head coach in the NHL sooner than later.

Looks like Keegan Ford is finally ready to get back to NCAA hockey.

I have added Kyle Hayton to the spreadsheet as a Senior Goaltender for this season.

Wish him all the best for the Badgers this year.

Pretty cool stuff. Where does all the year old used stuff go when the season is done?

I believe that players can buy the gear for a certain price when the season is done, but I have seen things sold at SWAP as well. (I actually bought an old blocker and glove set from them ages ago.)

Yup. Or, it is given back to Brian's (the manufacturer of Hayton's equipment) and sold as "pro return" stock.

Thank the Good Lord I never saw this site when my son was playing goalie. It's hockey equipment porn.

That is some sweet tendy gear! That glove will look great flashing the wheelhouse grab!

I'd like to have every dollar back that we spent in goalie gear the approx 12 years we paid out of pocket. I'd have a big ****ing log home somewhere in northern WI or the U.P. overlooking a pristine lake.
(Naw, actually I wouldn't trade those times for anything!)

The website Goalie Monkey is also unreal. You can get some steals on that website if you are patient. I will never pay full price for a goalie stick.

Now that is one heck of a leadership group!

C - Hughes (Sr)
A - Wagner (Sr), Linhart (Sr), Malone (Jr), Frederic (So)

No word on if the each of the 4 will always wear the A or if they will have 2 home/2 away.
I seem to recall something from recent years about a large leadership group and having some guys wear the letters at home and others wear them on the road. Anyone else remember that?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

What is not making UW hockey great again is all the grey getting into the UW swag. Stick to cardinal and white please.

Season starts Oct 1, now with our goalie situation set....is it too early to start making bold predictions for the season?
