I second everything said about Hauser, he was a lot of fun to watch. I know the shootouts don't matter, but him standing on his head in both games and beating Tracy has got to give him a lot of confidence. I also have really liked both Tulk and Osburn. Hard to tell but I think our defensive play has been a bit better so far as well (5 on 5).

Obviously there are the glaring issues already mentioned (OT play, staying out of the box). But me being the optimist I am I still think there's some stuff to like about this team, and I really think last years team would've lost both of these games.
 
I agree with all written above. Hastings talked about possession in OT on the radio driving home after the game. This team is much more talented than last year. Hauser is great. Mankato's goalie Tracy was great all weekend keeping it at two ties. We definitely outplayed them overall. First period in both games was bad, but then played way better 2nd and 3rd. Got to stop with the stupid penalties. The 5-minute boarding Friday was particularly egregious. Just can't do that.
 
I know polls at this time of year don't mean anything but we moved up a spot and Mankato went down.

A lot of their fans were around us on Friday and was talking to a former Badger player (Lurey? Late 80s) who's kid is now skating for Mankato and told him that they won the weekend by coming on the road and getting two ties. He agreed and then did Varsity post game next to us in his Mankato pull over. :)

I guess not though.

Yes.... we looked better than them 5 on 5, but can't imagine many of the voters know that.

Talked to a few of the other parents too - throwback to the Geoffrion era when we had our Friday seats right in the Badger parents' section.

They thought we'd all be hating on them but no one was - I told them that most of the old fans miss the WCHA days and wish we were still in a conference with them. :(

Also... we just want them to beat the Gophers when they play them ;)

Anyway... yeah Hauser looked good. Hope it continues as it would be stellar to have a young goalie to build around and progress with.

Thought Montgomery was noticeable too, but maybe just coz he's 6'4"

Our next in-person is tOSU and hopefully we stack some wins before that.
 
Not a fan of the second last night but a great response in the third. Coach Oliver did the between period chat with the lads and it must have made a positive mark on them. Montgomery's goal is a great example of how the breakout should go down. Still undefeated! Woohoo!
 
Always good to get the sweep! 🧹 🧹

I know it’s early in the season and things can change quickly, but the NPI has Wisconsin at #1. Gophers are up next with a record of 2-5-1. They are not looking very good this year. We need to get at least a win and a tie. I will be at the Thursday game. LGR!
 
The good:
1. Hauser x 2
2. They haven't lost to anyone they shouldn't have lost to
3. The absolute boneheaded defensive turnovers/mistakes have been minimal to none, and when they do occur Hauser has largely come up big unlike our goalies last year.

The bad:
1. Offense goes through long stretches of disorganization (see OT play).
2. Couldn't solve Mankato's trap (see point above) leading to 2 ties. Silver lining is we probably would have lost at least one of those games last year.

I think they're gonna need another gear this weekend. Minimum is a split, and that might be a little disappointing given home ice and the level of Gopher play up to this point.
 
Been lurking for a while, appreciate everyone's comments thus far on the team and couldnt agree more. G play has been great. And the D has been solid, as noted. Been extremely happy that Tassy and Fitz are contributing out of the gate! That's key, scoring depth.

I'd also like to highlight how amazing it was for Horbach to get that shorty this weekend, changed the game. Talk about a kid that's just been slinging bags of ice and never stops, does whatever it takes. Great to see him rewarded! Well deserved and is a real glue guy in my opinion from the outside.

Now sweep the goofs!

You could count (yeah yeah) on him being there to rev up the crowd at the DCC and later the Kohl Center. Terrible loss for the old school Badger Hockey fans.

Agree and remember him well. Has been out of sight several years now but I still would always look for him. His wife was always there.
