Wisconsin Hockey 23-24: Hastily Making Wisconsin Hockey Great Again

Was on a pub crawl last night and checking in from time to time on B1G+

Happened to tune in right at the challenge but with no volume had to piece together that they must have thought a goal was scored. I knew that we'd either be down 1 or on a power play. Was pretty surprised they'd challenge knowing the penalty for losing it.

Stayed tuned in for the gwg.

Sweet win.

Good to see us pull out a fire wagon game and then also be able to come through when things were tighter.

Gurth!

Is that you, Pan?

Yep... good to see you are still around.

Did you guys hear that Wisconsin hired Hastings away from Minnesota State? I hear this guy is pretty good. Don’t know though.

Wi clearly won the FO% and puck possession and had a lot more grade A's than MI.

I'm not sure what the final stats were, but listening to the game, we had won 29 of 43 FO's (late 2nd/early 3rd), and we seemed to win almost all of them at the end of the 3rd. Absolutely dominated the FO's.

Right, but it just makes me question math lol.

It all comes down to RPI (the metric, not the school). All 5 of the comparisons that we lose, we lose only because of RPI. Last weekend, Bemidji got swept and NoDak only had one OT win, which out of all the results probably hurt us there.

The only two where we have common opponents, we win because of our sweeps over Augustana and Michigan.

Itll settle itself out as the weeks go on.

This week: BYE

Next week: At Michigan St Friday 11/17, 6:30 pm, (TV – BTN+); Saturday 11/18 TBD (TV – BTN+).

Positive stat of the week: We are up to 3rd in attendance at 8,670/game over 4 games. It's not hard to imagine that we will pass the rodents in second (avg 9856 / capacity 10,257) and contend with NoDak for 1st (their capacity is 11,639 and sell out every game).

Alright, so we all take a deep breath this week. Let the other folks battle it out. Ill be watching the PSU MSU series to see how competitive that is. PSU loves high shot counts and cheating their forwards up in the D zone to increase the number of chances and odd man rushes. I will be curious to see how MSU counteracts that.

And of course Fink and Grannan play for PSU. But Ill be watching MSU, then at the series in East Lansing on the 17th 18th.

I’m curious to see who wins in the Minnesota vs Michigan matchup.

kohl center rink will be shrinking. I think this is great. I suspect the smaller sheet will have less obstructed views in the third level. I believe above row 3 in the third level on the sides is considered obstructed where you don't see the near side boards.

The 3rd tier 1st row is my favorite spot and yes, you had to lean over a bit to see the near boards. The timing is interesting, didn't TG want the sheet shrunk?

Apparently they dig the bowl for the rink deeper so I don't know that you would have improved sight lines or not.

If they do, then probably not then. But with 6 extra feet, and if they go down 2 there would still be gains, I think. I need to pull geometry out of my mind from high school. Mr Klopotek would be proud!

This is a simple fix without any digging..
Move the boards in 6 ft on both sides, and round the corners accordingly.

Put in a couple rows of ice level seats

Boom. Done.

Want those seats b flat to each other and not on an incline? But they almost have to leave them the same level because the zamboni's travel from LaBahn to the Kohl.

Boston College and Denver lost, could UW be number one?

I think it will depend on what happens tonight. BC and Denver both need to win right out. If they do, Bucky may slide into the #2 slot behind BC but Denver's loss in OT hurts them. Maine is certainly stronger than ASU in terms of perceived comptetion. If both lose again it would be difficult not to put Wisconsin at #1.

That being said, hockey is a fickle bride...nothibg really matters yet in terms of ranking/pairwise

If you would have told me the men’s hockey team would be substantially better than the football team, I wouldn’t have believed you.

With the football team looking abysmal by Wisconsin standards, hopefully more people come out to see the hockey team!
