Wisconsin Hockey 22-23 Empty Dreams & Empty Seats

Im certainly not saying Rohlik is the absolute answer either. There are very few successful NCAA HCs out there that would be willing to leave their programs when they are already perennial NCAA teams. To poach Rohlik, we would have to prob throw $600/yr at him min. He already is at $500/yr.

With that being said we are prob looking at USNDT coaches, really good USHL HCs, and hyper good NCAA assistants with Western hockey experience.

What that pool looks like, I dont know. Certainly Rohlik with his current assistants at OSU, we would be dumb not to provide an honest interview for.

Yes, Danton Cole was with the USNDTP.

The big advantage of establisbed successful college coaches is that they have good to great assistants. They have an established recruiting base. They know the NCAA world of work.

With Macintosh and King being there on Sat...I think it was purposeful. Id rather see them at hockey games than not.

Maybe Mel Pearson is still in town. I hear the Flin Flon bomber Teddy (yes I saw him play) recommends him.

But then MSU went right back to the same well and this time it looks like they got a good coach!

Don’t let my pessimism Sauer :)the thread. I’ve seen nothing but rain clouds over Badger hockey for 27 years (except 04-06, 2009, 2010).

Nah man, college hockey has changed SO much. The tourney is 16 teams when back in the day it was 8. Even 4 in the 70s. The competition is SO much stronger than it used to be that if you dont have a great system and team culture in place, plus talent, youre basically screwed. You gotta hit the trifecta to win a natty.

Because perhaps (hahaha) the coaching staff also underachieved?

Given the expectations when they were hired, absolutely. Frankly, a coaching staff of a skating traffic cone, psychic who has never watched a game but has a direct line to the ghost of Badger Bob, and a random poster with a copy of “Hockey for Dummies” could have achieved the same results.

Well Granato hasn’t been let go yet. I’m still concerned they won’t make the change.

They just came out with the new OSU rink plan,so is Rohlik really looking to move? Would Strand and Bittner come back to where they got fired?

On an objective level its hard to believe they wont fire TG. But with the level of stupid of the hockey admins over the last 10 years, especially last year when they kept the current staff, who knows what they will do. I would suggest anyone who cares to email the people making hundreds of thousands of dollars to make these decisions. Who have made poor decisions. Better safe then sorry with these people.

Jason King - Adminstrator of UW Hockey

Christ Macintosh - doesn't list his email other than this:

Obvioisly this assumes Rohlik is the guy. That remains to be seen. They are only starting construcrion on the new facility in 24, scheduled for completion in 26. I dont think that will influence Rohlik one way or another. In terms of facilities, even considering OSUs new planned one, UW still has a top 5 facility/amenities in NCAA hockey for players.
