Wisconsin Hockey 22-23 Empty Dreams & Empty Seats

The nepotism between the State Journal amd UW programs is pretty awful. Polzin, Lucas, and Baggot are the worst offenders. It has become just a giant tornado of self conratulatory back patting. There are no hard questions and people like Milewski were put on an island being dared to ask tough questions. There is zero accountability for the programs.

Yeah and Baggot and Lucas were hockey guys originally. And it's sad seeing Posick having to buy into and sell the UW propaganda machine, he used to be an independent sports guy too. I'd love to hear how these 3 really feel about the program. I think to a certain extent Mileski is also owned by UW. There have been times where he could have asked hard questions and just chose not to do so. To me though a beat writer doesn't necessarily offer opinion they just state the fact. A columnist should be the one calling for heads to roll.

I think it is fair to say '77-'83 is the zenith of the hockey program. However, that means WI played the likes of Mich, Mich St, and Notre Dame as part pf the WCHA. From a conference perspective theres no reason to say they arent long time league rivals.only Ohio St and Penn St are new arrivals.

Outside of those 5 yrs, Wisconsin always has been a mediocre prgm that puts together a strong run every now and then thru beating up on teams like Mich Tech, Colorado College, Northern MI and Alaska and being decent against the top end competition like NoDak, Denver, UMD and the Goophs.

I think its only a very small segment that wants to see those games. Look, I loved playing against NoDak and Denver and the like but those days are over. Adapt and survive. However, UW needs to make a better effort on playing against those teams in the non conf slate.

I completely disagree with your statement that Wisconsin has always been a mediocre team. That’s just not supported by the facts.

from 1972-3 through 1994-5 Wisconsin was very good to great and had arguably maybe 2 really lackluster years in that 22-23 year span and one of those down years was when “the rocket” stepped in for Badger Bob.

We can agree to disagree. College hockey was archaic compared to what it is in the modern hockey era, or 1992 on. They were dominant from 77-83 and even before then, college hockey was pretty much in its infancy, the best players in North America rarely played college hockey.

The NCAA tournament was only 5 teams in 77. In 83 there were 8 teams and still only 3 Div 1 conferences. Outside of those 6 or 7 years I mention, Wisconsins record says they beat up on weak opponents and are averageish against stiff competition. The years past 83 that I refer too were marked by mostly ok to decent teams that once in a while would hit the jackpot and run the table if they didnt fall on their face (i.e. 99, 13, 14, 21).

UW should be able to score on the loose playing UM squad. They missed Kehrer last week, hopefully he can this weekend, they will help the cause. STAY OUT OF THE BOX! Please.

BTN plus for TV this weekend :( I have it but most don't. 6 pm games.

I am not getting in the discussion about '83 on, but I can say the last 12-13 years have been mostly terrible, a couple of disspointing and a year or two of decent.

College hockey was turning out pros all the way back in the 60's. They didn't have the numbers or draft picks like today, but guys who played college hockey could and did end up in the pros. Yes, the college hockey playing style/game was different then, but so was the pro hockey game. You can't look with today's metrics/standards on generations past. It was a different era. All sports are like that.

From an outside perspective as someone who loathes anything Badger/Cheesehead related, Wisconsin was considered a tough opponent until a little before the B1G came around. Now, it is still a nice W to beat Wisconsin, especially since they tend to over recruit and try to get players out of Tech they like.

Well Im at the game and its a dumpster fire already. Michigan skating circles around Wi D. Moe has been in a shooting gallery and if not for his saves it could easily be 6-1 rt now.

You’re wrong. (: ;):) I do agree with my long lost friend solovsfett. Wisconsin was elite from the early 70s until the mid-late 90s. Call it what you will after that…but it wasn’t garbage until about 2011-12.

Aktick! Great to see you posting again

Maybe we can convince Gurtholfin, Eods, JoeyV and a few others to come back?!?!

Hey Ty how’s that transfer working out for ya??? We’re doing so horribly without you….BOBCAT NATION

I'm doing great, thanks for asking! I love going to school at Wisconsin, the academics and the town are a huge improvement over you know where lol. My teammates are a great bunch of guys and the hockey facilities here are way better as well. Take care, Ty.

This reviewing for a major after the fact and then negating a goal is just abysmal stuff.

Michigan with FIVE goals in the 1st period. Just terrible.

I have an idea. Keep Granato and Osiecki for the remainder of the season. Don’t give the fan base hope (all 200 of them), don’t give recruits hope.

don’t hire a new coach NOW so he can affect change and fire up fans and recruits immediately.

piss on the season ticket holders. All of them. That sounds like a winning idea!!!

What the hell happened tonight? WI on the PK 10 times? MI with 8 penalties for 43(!) Minutes?

This one might be worth going back and watching

I didn't see the game; but, can't say I'm surprised. I've been watching the Big Ten network games a lot, and Michigan's been on a lot. I believe before this series, they had a streak of taking a major penalty in 6 straight games - they've just been good enough offensively to overcome it. So, you combine their undisciplined play with our own often undisciplined play/generally poor reaction rough play/missed calls, and you have a formula for a lot of special teams play.

What are the odds of getting just one more win this year? Maybe steal one against Michigan State?
