Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019 Part 2: Still not time for the witty thread title.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019 Part 2: Still not time for the witty thread title.

Nice sweep over those greasy, stinky, schitt eating, scavenging skunk bears. Too bad Notre Dame couldn't beat Ped State.

In athletics, YOU decide your future. Don't depend on anybody to help you out. Let's carry the momentum into next week wherever it is.

Clutch performance in crunch time. Two nights in a row. Awesome. Reminds me of old days.

Please take care of Pedo St. Yes, you can write this down, I am sorta kinda hoping maybe that WI wins. But it's for a selfish reason. ;) Thank you.

It is a great feeling to fall asleep down one, wake up the next am, check Twitter and see the Swedish Assassin knifing all 6 of those greasy, stinky, schitt eating, scavenging skunk bears with one shot. Oh BABY!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019 Part 2: Still not time for the witty thread title.

It's been quite a while since I have been on the boards (Hi everyone!). I got tired of the Rodent fans trying to bask in past glories, and generally stinking up the place. BUT, last night's game was a godsend to this long suffering Badger fan. A friend got his hands on some third row seats, the best I have had in years, and the Kohl was LOUD. I'm sure that part of that was the final appearance by Professor Leckrone and I'll admit it, I got a tear in my eye seeing him actually dancing with the student section. After the game tying goal late in the third, I started to think that we could actually close out the weekend sweep with a solid push in OT. The disallowed goal didn't faze me, as I could see the Badger players get a look in their eyes that they weren't going away. And Weissbach moving through the Wolverines like the winning dog at the national agility championships was a thing of beauty. Thanks Badgers for putting a spark of hope in my heart for the future.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019 Part 2: Still not time for the witty thread title.

Just watched the 3rd and the OT, that's a lot of bad refereeing there, wow. Lots of no calls against UM in the 3rd, but the way our pp is, it may have been better not to get the calls. The early change call in the OT was total horseshiit. If we changed too early, then it's a too many call and a penalty, but they changed too early but no penalty? Where is that in the rulebook? If it was the change they showed on tv with the D changing, way behind the play, that's 1000% horseshiit. I had noticed Friday night I thought they were changing too far apart, but those changes were way worse what they showed on tv, IF that was the play. Thankfully Linus embarrassed the 6 guys on the ice and won it anyway.

I'm not sure what sparked the brawl (the check to the chin does come to mind), but I don't think it would have happened without the refs missing calls or "letting them play".

Gorniac got decked after the play, and yes, that was brewing the whole 3rd period with the no calls.

Sorry, I should have said it better. The late hit on Gorniak was definitely the catalyst, but it was generally a well played game by both teams that boiled over pretty quickly.

Have been lurking for a while, but first...I think it's time for a witty thread title. If not going into the playoffs with a whole lot of "mo" then when? :)

Second, that series against Michigan was probably the best medicine for the fans that this program has needed in a while. There was a lot of pride on the line; fighting for home ice, senior weekend, ending the season with a dud. It had the opportunity to be a disaster or to rally.

McBadgerton said it the best, Wisconsin has always been one of those teams that operates in the shadows of college hockey headlines. They haven't won a TON of conference championships, or conference tournaments for that matter. But donning that sweater in games that loom large has ALWAYS been a hallmark of the program. Maybe we lost sight of that at the end of the Eaves era. Believing in something larger than self or stats and, not doing the impossible, but putting it all together when it counts the most. This weekend felt like that. Fans needed that drama of edge of your seat OT thrillers to become vested. I think we created some more Badger hockey fans at Kohl Center this weekend :)

What's funny about this is even in the worst season of Badger hockey, they tied #2 Boston University. Should have won, but Dougherty did a silly and allowed BU to tie it late.

You geniuses see the fans last night? Like I've been freaking saying it's only a matter of time and winning before **** gets real at the kohl. We dont need some special $2 upper section special. Badger hockey is the ****

Stats after Michigan:

PWR 26th of 60 - improved 5 spots
GPG 3.06 up 4 spots to T20th
GAA 3.44 stayed at 52nd
PP% 16.00% down 1 spot to 44th
PK% 74.10% still 59th

Well those were a couple exciting fun games Friday and Saturday and I got to enjoy both live. Hoping that this is the building blocks for next week and next year.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019 Part 2: Still not time for the witty thread title.

Can someone who was watching the game on TV please explain why the first OT goal was disallowed, and then the faceoff was moved outside the zone. At the game they didn't explain anything. Was it an offsides on the GWG?

Too many men on the ice. Even though no penalty was called.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It was not offside. The announcers never knew/said why it was disallowed for sure at the time, they guessed in the end it was a too many men type thing (but no penalty then???), Posick tweeted that is was an "illegal substitution" sometime yesterday. I hope Todd D asks TG about it at the presser.

Dhooghe jumped from the bench to the ice before Kalynuk, who he was changing for, was within 5 feet of the bench. That was an illegal substitution. The goal was disallowed but no penalty was assigned because you can't assess new minor penalties from the replay. (They can call a major from the replay.) As far as I can tell from the rules it was a technically correct call, although completely stupid as it had nothing to do with the play in any way.
Granato's point was that MI challenged the play was offsides which it wasn't, but the current rules allow the refs to just check everything on a goal scoring replay. I later listened to the replay and Ian's point was that you might as well challenge an illegal stick and have it measured on every important goal as they are going to check the replay for everything else anyway. It's kind of dumb to be penalized for something that gives no advantage on a goal scoring play, but that's the way it is right now.
