Underrated: “When you say Wisconsin, you’ve said it all”

Who here is old enough to remember how controversial “When you say Wisconsin, you’ve said it all” was?

Not me. But I certainly get it: it's a Budweiser song. No one in Wisconsin with any dignity drinks Budweiser. Therein lies the controversy.

Close, but no cigar (but certainly worthy of a cigarillo).

Some people got their panties in a wad because it prompted drinking (they said). As if the Bud song had subliminal messages in it which made us go out and consume mass quantities.

Ha! Yeah... it was the Bud Song that did it...

Agreed, It does beg the question, where does CC get these goalies that come in as freshman and just set the world on fire and why can't a school like UW, which is known in the past as goalie U get any of these goalies. I'm not complaining about our goaltending situation over the years but it seems like we are the only school in the WCHA that hasn't had a freshman stud in net....???????

At least not recently. Richter, Joseph and Carey (sp), they were studs.

But I think that not having a freshmen come in and supplant the established upperclassmen validates both the fact that that UW hasn't missed on a goalie recruit and the fact that the goalies who came in developed while they were here.

I think that it is a good thing that UW hasn't needed to rely of a freshmen goalie to come in and be the man right away. For every freshmen stud goalie, their are a number of freshmen goalies who are PAINFULLY average.

:D

The controversy could not have been about the consumption of malt/fermented products since there has never been that problem in Madison. The big thing I remember is university officials afraid the upper deck would collapse since the media in the press box could feel the structure sway during the song.

UW's gonna need that stud freshman in a couple years or it could get ugly, Kangass ugly.

It's Friday, I'm in Love is finally up. (Well, at least the Men's part is. I'm still writing the women's part.)

What's a blog clot? ;)

Captain Malcolm Gwilliam is in the lineup tonight after not skating Monday or Tuesday in practice. Gwilliam was granted a rare sixth year of eligibility after suffering a stroke last year caused by a blog clot originating in a small hole in his heart. You can read about it here and here. (Thanks to crazypotoatoes for the links.)

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

A few loose goals tonight but an overall good performance. Lets see them come out tommorow and do the same!

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

Hi guys, friendly Red Wings fan here :D ..... Just curious, how is Brendan Smith's defense looking this year? And what's your overall take on him at this point? I've been following him his entire college career (since he was drafted) and got to see him in many games last year, so I know how he plays and I'm aware of his past defensive woes (as well as his superior skating and offensive ability, of course!). I'm hoping to hear he is making strides in that department. I haven't seen a Badgers game yet this year (I should get to see tonight's game though), so I figured I'd search out some informed opinions ;)

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

I can't believe I haven't chimed in about Wisconsin yet this season... Guess I've been too busy to bother. Anyway, at this point I'm really liking what I'm seeing, but we need to be able to string together two good nights consistently. I'm really enjoying the offensive surge as of late, I hope to see that continue, because if the Badgers are going to go anywhere this season they have to make their chances count, especially against teams like Denver and North Dakota. Can't wait to see another beat down of the Huskies tonight, and here's to hoping we can close out next weekend in North Dakota with a series split at the very least.

I don't remember any controversy. I remember the part that A-Busch was elated to have it used in Miller territory. Enough so that they waived the royalties on the jingle so that the UW band could use it at will.
I also remember a Bud tv ad that had the UW band playing the song.
