The Lackhawks are also failing to entertain. I play at 10. I'll have to entertain myself. ;)

Cycle!!

Serves them right.

Stupid Blackhawks. Who do they think they are? Drafting all those Badgers into their unholy abomination of an organization. How warm's the fire, Bill?

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

Teams at all levels have gotten much better at doing little things like blocking shots and interrupting passing lanes. It's not just individual skills, either - team D is much better than it used to be.

When your power play is four guys standing still 30 feet from the net, its pretty easy to interrupt passing lanes. And if a defender is overplaying a passing lane that far out, wouldn't he be susceptible to someone, oh, going to the net? Its also far easier to block a 40 foot shot than it is when you get one in down low or shoot off a pass across the zone.

What I would love to see on a more regular basis is the power play goal we had to win the championship in 2006. Puck went low and a defenseman cut to net and was all alone in the slot for a one time shot that ended up being the game winner.

Next time you go to a game, watch the opposing teams PP and you will see players moving around and creating opportunities.

Seeing a few 7-6 games might be fun for a change.

Cycle!

!

I'll agree with this; this is something that concerned me about the first weekend. It's like the players had started listening to the morons in the crowd who yell "shoot!" every time a d-man has the puck. They failed to work it low and try for the back door play that has been their staple for the last several years, or the d-man switch shot that they added last year. Hopefully an aberration.

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

I am about 95% sure if you tune in the Charter Extra Channel 87 this weekend you will see the Badgers and the Mavericks. On friday there will be a Pregame show starting at 7:00pm with the broadcast to follow. Then on Saturday the broadcast will start at 7:00pm again. I know the games will be on in Mankato area and should be on in all of Wisconsin. I will do some more checking and let you badger fans know. For more updates come the the College Hockey Weekend Fan Page on Facebook.

Also if you can't get the game on TV stop by the Facebook page, I will have highlights posted there after the games.

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

Maybe. I'm saying the problem is perception on your end.

Firewagon hockey with no defense from the 80s and 90s left a long time ago, and it's not coming back. At any level of play.

The top scoring team in the WCHA last year only had 3.4 goals per game.

http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2006/01/02_thebest.php

The 86-87 UND team (Hrkac Circus) averaged 5.71 goals per game.

In short, I think you're waiting for something that's not going to come. Teams are much better defensively these days.

I think the goalies are the big difference. If you look at a highlight reel from the 80's or early 90's the goalies look really small. Today, the goalies are better overall for one and it helps a lot that the pads have been on steroids the last 10-15 years. So.....a mixture of more talented goalies, bigger pads, and the college stars leaving early the goals go from 5 a game to 3.

Ha ha! As if they'd know. :D

Either it'll be on or it won't and I'm assuming from past experience that it won't, but hoping for the best.

It is on B2 Network if not on Charter.

b2livetv.com (I believe)

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

Use Facebook if you can. I would've done the same during my tenure (03-04 through 07-08), but I grew tired of Facebook as soon as I had joined, so I was never bothered enough to rejoin just for the Creatures. But, like you said, its unlikely to ever work. I've found that when you try to confront students with the truth online, they just get uber-defensive about it. Especially the football fans. Good Lord, how they love to defend their right to show up for half the game and not give a crap about it while they're there.

But really, here's the sad truth: The egregious stupidity that is the Football Student Section has been slowly taking over the Kohl Center since the 2006-07 season. The only thing you can do is to do your own creative cheers and pray that you're surrounded by the kinds of kids who will cheer along with you instead of thinking that you're doing it for attention*. It sucks, but you can't force people to not be stupid. You're stuck with what you get. Hockey Guy Pete used to just get really ****y and try to shush people who did things he didn't like. No matter how in the right he was, it always just came off making him look kind of like a tool, so a lot of people would just ignore him.

It's a tragedy, being a clever hockey fan at UW. You're just stuck wishing it was 2005-06 all over again. And when you graduate, trust me, you'll find yourself just wishing you could go back to the student section. You won't find that same enthusiasm, passion, and desire to cheer along anywhere you go. Ok, maybe at an MLS team, but then you'll be surrounded by posers with fake English accents.

When you do try to go back to sections 113-117 after graduating, you just feel like a bum who can't move on- like those people who kept showing up at their high school after they graduated, so they could talk with their old teachers. Or you feel like Hockey Guy Pete. (Although I gotta give mad respect to Hockey Guy Pete... he's the same kind of fan that I am.) Either way you slice it: going back just is never the same as it was two years ago, or three years ago, or five years ago. It's really soul crushing. Literally, every time I go to a sporting event, I just think about how tired and lame it is compared to my Crease Creature hey day. Even when I finally got to go to Lambeau. Isn't that just sad?

*(By the way, I'm not kidding, I tried to do my "If you want a sausage fest, go to Tech" song once and just got looks from people as if I was just entertaining them instead of trying to get a chant going)

Truer words were never spoken....

I think we all wish we could live in that magical bubble of 05-06.

The football attitude is slowly encroaching into the hockey student section and it kills me to see it.:(

Those of us with Dish network are out of luck then?

Maybe he meant Charter digital coz my regular Charter doesn't have a channel 87.

B2 for me unless I just listen to it and play NHL 10 with the boy.

I haven't checked my Direct TV yet, but MSU games have never been on b4.

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

Well, it appears as though it is going to be on channel 87 for us Charter digital members, as they have a WCHA pregame type dealio on right now...That's a frickin' miracle!

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

Isn't the game supposed to be on WIBA? I'm listening online to WIBA, and they don't have the game on.
