Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

The three BC defensemen’s average height is 5’7”

Be very careful that Megan Keller does not find out that you included her in your average height calculation. Megan Keller cannot be associated with average in any way, shape, or form.

Reading this brought some tears to my eyes. It also made chanting her name last weekend all the more sweet. Badger fans will always be there for you.

Loved reading this. Very well-written, quite emotionally exposed. Does anyone here know what happened to cause the cut? I mean, if you're told for months that you're on the 23-person Olympics roster and you get the rug pulled out from you at almost the last minute, that's awful from USA Hockey. I realize things are competitive and nothing is guaranteed in life except death. But, wow.

Especially the 2nd time, they centralized and committed to those centralized players, then shockingly, brought more players in late in the process out of the blue, then made cuts. That was a bad deal for sure. I sure would love to know exactly what they told her the second time, she told us what they told her the first time.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Hi, my first time watching in Madison will be today (Badger fan in MN, have seen them a few times, e.g., Minneapolis, Mankato). For my general admission tickets, how early would be recommended to get there to get an ok seat ? Also, any parking tips if I will be there all day, including for men's game later tonight ?

Thanks!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

There's not really a bad seat in LaBahn (at least in terms of getting a good view, the seats themselves are still among the most uncomfortable you'll ever find!). If you want to sit between the blue lines, I'd get there at least a half hour early, if you don't mind being in ends/corners then getting there at gametime is fine.

If I'm going to be there all day, I'll usually park at the lot at Park/Regent - it's marked customers only, but they don't care if you park there after 5 or on weekends. That's the opposite side of the arena from most of the bars/restaurants around though, so if you want to be closer to State St., just park in the ramp at State and Francis, which is pretty reasonable from what I remember.

Here's the link to the info on the city ramp Tim mentioned. I don't know anything about the lot he parks in. If you have the time (and are cheap like me) just south and west of the Kohl Center are streets that are private houses or apartments - mostly students - such as Mifflin St. Quite often, you can find a spot on Mifflin, where you can just leave your car on a weekend all day. If you find a spot, great, and if not, just loop back to the city lot or Tim's lot.

As for seating in LaBahn, there are always lots of no-shows, so finding a seat wherever is rarely difficult. Today should be no problem at all.

EDIT: Ooops, not Tim. He has mentioned parking over there in the past, and I wasn't paying attention to who had posted what. Sorry.

Unless they have changed since the last time I was there (2012 I think), I'm going to have to disagree.

Having spent time in both I have to agree with Eeyore, the seating at the Herb Brooks Center are in keeping with the Soviet era design. They will redesign a human

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Another enjoyable weekend at the rink. Here are some random thoughts:

Great to see Blesi get some action, she kinda got put into the fire with the 2 on 1 SH situation. I do believe she got a piece of it put it tricked in. Another interesting situation is that she lost her blocker (and stick), but the ref's allowed the play to go on with the puck deep in the UW zone. Normally losing a glove is not big deal, but this was a player safety issue with opponents rifling pucks at you, I think they should have stopped play. A few years ago an opposing goalie's helmet popped off as UW was shooting (and scoring if I recall correctly), but the ref's blew the whistle. I guess she should have popped her helmet off to get a whistle. It was a little surprising her teamates didn't try to get her the equipment back more quickly.

Shirley had an interesting weekend, I thought she passed from high grade shooter locations a few times, then when she scored Saturday I thought she should have passed, but she decided to cut to the net and made an awesome shot.

Curl is coming on strong. Her pedigree with USA hockey said she was more than a 4th liner and putting her on the 2nd line has a good move, she's been a great finisher.

Bowlby had some rushes where she got to show off her jets, that was fun to see, she is very speedy.

Awesome seeing Mauermann get going with 2 goals and to see the 4th line with 3 goals on the weekend. Great for the confidence, though obviously Cuse wasn't a top shelf opponent this weekend. It was interesting that at the end of today's game not many of the Cuse players went to the goalie to hug or anything. I don't think any shots she allowed were soft, UW was locked into taking the puck to the net tight his weekend. I like that.

Clarky got the hatty, a nice mix of sniper shots and grinders.

There were 2 young ladies who sang the National Anthem today, it was the best version I have ever heard, simply beautiful singing 2 different harmonies at times, simply mesmerizing.

I hope they didn't list the game as sold out today, there were plenty of empty seats, but the crowd was still boisterous. The dude running the concourse with a UW flag was neat new thing to see.

2012 "Fill The Bowl", against Bemidji. A scoreless game, Madison Packer deked Zuzana Tomcikova on a breakaway so bad that Z's flailing away caused her own mask to come off. Packer put the puck in the net, but the goal was wiped away. Later, Knight scored and the Badgers won 1-0. I was watching at a sort-of family reunion thing (the game was on Fox WI, I think) with a roomful of people, and I had to try to explain the call and the wiped away goal.

Thanks for the vivid memory.

We've got a "taking are of business" weekend coming up. They need to not be too overconfident after juicing the oranges last weekend. Coming down off a sugar high can be downer.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

St. Cloud did take UM to OT on home ice a few weeks ago. Shots were 47-18 UM. UW needs to play solid D with no odd player rushes allowed on the big ice.

I'm not sure UW's statistically #1 PP is really as good as the stat says.

Looks like Ms Shirley is solidly competing for the WCHA ROTY, though the coaches all voted for someone else but 1 I do believe. I think Levy is the leader at this point.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2018-2019

Well, the PP had 2 tic tac toe goals, they did look like a PP juggernaut.

Great balanced scoring again. Too bad that there is 8000 days between today and the next game, what a dumb momentum killing schedule.

I'd love to see closeup slow-mo's of the 2 goals allowed. Both were quirky situations, the hope was those were out of the system, and they were for a long time, oh well, learning situations for Soup.

Interesting thing from the broadcast.....they considered red shirting Curl this year. She is having a great year, but getting put on Roque's line was the difference maker. It makes me wonder if Kronish and DeVito are officially redshirting, one would assume so.

Dumb***** play-by-play guy yesterday mispronouncing Pankowski! I wonder if he's still going to identify #19 during today's game as "Pankowicks"

I also noted him calling Shaver "Shaeffer", "Preston Norby", and "Sophia Shirley". Now, that last one is understandable; we do have a Sophie and a Sophia. But still....

(He also apparently got at least one St Cloud player wrong, but corrected himself shortly after. I forget which, and would not have noticed, but for his correcting himself. On the other hand, I thought Julie Friend was pretty good, other than the dozen uses of the phrase "tic-tac-toe goal".)
