Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

Have you read some of the comments on the forum? There are some frustrated fans out there, toying with the lines, more scoring needed, power play is not working, needs more work, etc... never really giving any thought or consideration that the opponent might be better now! Just saying.

Maybe the best argument from that game is justifying the hit to the defensemen from MSU and then plowing into the MSU goalie by saying it was attributed to the Wisc. players speed to the net. I can totally see how that could happen. I mean its not like she has been playing hockey her whole life and now plays for the top team in the country. And on top of that learning to stop is a very difficult skill. I am just glad that people keep pointing out her size because that changes everything.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

What makes you think that these fans wouldn't want more competitive hockey? It's boring as all get out to watch a 10-0 game where one team takes 60+ shots.

I love a 10-0 whipping! I am in the minority though. My son hears UW wins 3-0 against a lower end team and he says "what's wrong with UW Dad?" He's spoiled for sure.

UW's pp does need to wake up, they will need an effective PP against the top teams. ;)

ARD having fun....she's a different cat for sure, very much an extrovert, which for goalies is unheard of.

Gee I wonder where he gets that? ;)

Goalies get hit, the good ones more often. There is no place in the game for this as they are usually not ready for it and defenseless for the most part. Having said that ARD's antics in goal probably rub the opposition the wrong way. I have seen her dance to the music, high 5 kids behind the net, make a simple save look like it's the greatest save of all time and laugh with the referees after a save. She is very good and should avoid this type of behavior. It doesn't suit her and is not needed. Maybe she is just bored.
It's personality and entertainment..,maybe if more teams had it they wouldn't be playing in empty barns 😏 Just a thought!

LOL. The difference is in the end, all I want is the win, no matter the score and I am satisfied with it; but he's so spoiled the wins have to style points too.

UW's scoring is down this year. Pankowski and Clark averaged way over a pt a game last year and this year they are at like .6 pts/game and the pp is up to 10.3%, obviously Clark's and Pankowski's performance is linked somewhat to that. That also makes the games closer as well, thus losing style points.

... keep in mind it is women's hockey, things like stopping is a skill only the ladies from Canada & Minnesota have mastered

considering Johnson is a former NHL'er, surely he had to know retribution is a possibility, it is one of the unwritten rules of hockey
and considering about half the Badgers are Canadian, as is Desbians, surely they had to know as well

doesn't belong in womens hockey? replay the Canada/US pre-Olympic game in Grand Forks

Does anyone know the injury status of Desbien and also Cogan? You have to think that the lines would be the same this upcoming weekend vs. Bemidji St. as they were last weekend. I suppose that if Cogan is back in the line up then she would resume her role on the Clark line and Johnson would be the odd player out. It will be very interesting as well if Desbien can't play. The good thing is the Badgers tend to keep the puck in the opponents zone for the majority of the game. The best defense is to be on offense and not let the other team touch the puck.

Once again the complete narrow minded mentality that actually hurts these posts. Its truly unfortunate you have discounted the abilities of some of the greatest players in the game today. Too bad.

ARD was listed as "day to day", but she's active on twitter so I think she's feeling like her old self. I have no idea on Cogan. As usual MJ is tight lipped about player status. And no one will dare ask him about status or they'll get a DQ.

Everybody knows that the talent gap is shrinking and that trend will continue. However, a team plays against its own potential. Consider last year when Minnesota beat the Mavericks by 10 goals one day and by one goal the next. Which of these margins is the better indicator of the difference in the two teams? I'd say, neither. Minnesota wasn't 10 goals better, but they were more than one goal better. Sometimes teams don't score because the opponent's defense plays so well. But at other times, the offense just misfires. A team controls what it can, and tries to play to its ability.

If the discussion of such things offends you, feel free to not read those posts. Because from what I've seen of all the teams that I've watched this year, top and bottom, everyone could use more scoring.

No offense taken. It's called debating. Seems like you are the party that is offended. It appears that if we agree with everything that is written, we are good to go but don't you dare disagree or defend teams that are not #1 or #2.

IMO it's a combination of these factors:

a) Top-end talent with each recruiting class has grown and is more spread out, becoming available to more schools (following the pattern that's evolved on the men's side for many years). So the formerly "weak" programs are better able to compete...and to defend against the traditional top teams.
b) Similarly, there are more top quality goaltenders, who are also more evenly distributed. Would it not be outrageous to suggest that the skills of the top goaltenders has outpaced the shooting skills of most skaters (both forwards and D)?
c) Coaching! Teams that can't necessarily compete on pure talent alone have done a much better coaching job of figuring out ways to equalize the talent differential, going well beyond the "stacking the box" strategy of past years.

All good from the standpoint of making more games that much more exciting than the blowouts we used to see between the top and bottom teams...as long as your favorite team manages to find a way to win.

100% agree. NHL hockey is no different. Any team can win on any given night. We are not quite there yet in women's div 1 hockey however the wins are more difficult to get for the upper echelon teams.

Wisconsin fans not being happy with an 8% power play means they are never really giving any thought or consideration that the opponent might be better now?

Minnesota and Wisconsin fans discussing possible or advisable line changes is evidence they are struggling with the fact the landscape is more competitive this year?

It just seems there is quite a logical leap in there :)

No D1 team would be happy with an 8% pp, no matter the opponent. It's UW's scheme/execution. They are scoring 5 on 5.

Antics?

I have seen her dance to the music

What a punk.

high 5 kids behind the net

Interacting with kids is common and harmless. Antics? No.

make a simple save look like it's the greatest save of all time

This is not a thing.

and laugh with the referees after a save.

This is also incredibly common, but I could see it as a negative if I get in an insanely paranoid mindset.

She is very good and should avoid this type of behavior. It doesn't suit her and is not needed. Maybe she is just bored.

You're coming across as a very negative person, which tends to happen when your head is way up your colon.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

Glad to see the women up early in the second! Bought BTNPlus for the weekend and the stream has been messed up for most of the game. Hope it comes online to finish watching the rest of the game.

I tried watching it, too. Froze after 30 seconds a bunch of times in a row. So I left. Come back and now I see the whole thing is down due to technical difficulties. DRAG!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

Nice to see that the stream was finally working without issues.

The women really looked great throughout and got a well deserved 6-0 today.
