Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

back in October the Gophers blew a chance to be #1 when Wisco tied OSU, they lost to BSU in a game that started later
both games started at the same time yesterday, both teams have to be somewhat relieved the other did not win yesterday

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

Per Twitter, Cece gets the nod again in net. All other lines intact. Need to give her some offensive support to have a chance.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

Thats funny because only a couple of posts before you were suggesting Cece was a better tender. If I may be rude enough to quote you you should be excited about her assault on the record book

Hope ARD recovers quickly & is back at it soon

I was implying she would shatter all rat's career records, not ARD's.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

Badgers with the big rebound win and Pankowski found her scoring touch to boot. Fortunately, we only drop one net point to Minnesota for the weekend.

It'll be interesting to see what the health situation is for Desbiens the rest of the semester. Could have rested this weekend as a precaution...or she could be missing a foot. Who knows...

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

So not really that good? You should stop trying you are only making it worse

It's the truth. I was jacked up that ARD broke raty's s/o record, then you came back with all these career records raty has that ARD can't touch, so I came back with CC will break raty's career records.

Anyway, losing sucks.

Awesome to see Pankowski break out of her season long slump on Saturday. WI had 3 great periods (1 5 & 6) and 3 bad periods last weekend (2 3 4). It was a great learning opportunity for the freshmen to play in some games where the opponent can punch back. UMD is clearly a force to be reckoned with. UMD out special-teamed UW and UW took more penalties, a sign to me that they weren't ready to deal with what UMD had to deliver.

Anyway, ARD's status is still up in the air for this series. No one pressed MJ for info or timetable on her return. At least he acknowledged she's not been deported or kidnapped by aliens.

Cornell comes in at 6-2-1, having played 2 ranked teams, lost to Colgate 2-1 and tied Q 3-3. PP 14%, PK 88%, scoring 2.44 per game and allowing 1.33. Looks like they play 2 goalies and both have awesome numbers. They have not trailed at the end of a period all year except the 3rd period 2 times. Lead on scoring by a Fr, O'Neill, she has 3 shorties and a ppg. Since they are called the "Big Red", we probably shouldn't chant "Let's Go RED!" this weekend. I am looking very forward to a couple night games this weekend, I love the feel of those. Saturday my eldest son is home from Whitewater with some buddies and we're taking them to the game, it's gonna be raucous that night for sure. Gonna have to buy some more tickets.

Saturdays win WAS a nice rebound win for the Badgers. We made the trip up to watch the games and the first period of game #1 on Friday was one of the most dominating periods of the season for the Badgers. Just couldn't put a puck in the net though! After that period things just kind of slipped away when Duluth scored their first goal. Saturdays game started off slow for UW but, after the first 20 minutes it was all Badgers. Pankowski's first goal (of the game and the season) really got the team going. It was a shift really based on hard work that set up the goal. Baylee Wellhausen was still out on the ice after her linemates changed up and she won the puck battle against 2 Duluth players.. Then she gave a nice pass to Clark who shot the puck immediately and Pankowski pounced on the rebound to stuff it home. Once Pankowski scored there was really no stopping her! Interesting that Wellhausen didn't get the assist on that play but it was nice to see those 3 players together on the ice! The coaches must be comfortable with pretty much any combination of forward line they put out on the ice. This team is so deep when you look at the stats.

This weekends series vs. Cornell should be an interesting test in regards to the Desbien injury. One would hope that she will be good to go but you never know with "upper body" injuries. However, if the Badgers play this weekend like they did the last 2 periods on Saturdays game against Duluth then it won't matter who plays in goal for UW. For most of those periods the puck never left the Duluth zone. The best offense is not allowing the opponent to touch the puck-- and that's exactly what this teams does when they are clicking! And having Pankowski find her scoring touch is a bonus to that fact!

Note that Saturday's game has been moved to an 8 PM start (I assume because of the 2:30 start time for football.)

Thanks for the insight into last weekend. I hate the away games where there is basically no analysis of UW's play if one cannot watch video from somewhere.

Very stoked to see incoming recruit Sophie Shirley make the Canadian National Senior Team for the US vs Canada series in December. I guess the young lady is pretty good. :) In other national team news, Nurse and Clark will miss the Lindenwood series playing in the 4 Nations Cup. One would suspect UW will lose some Americans for that series as well. UW may have under 3 full lines that weekend. Thankfully they are playing Lindenwood.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

Doing a little research on Sophie Shirley and she has a little sister, Grace (01). She's historically is averaging a point a game. I probably should not have posted this as now Frosty will be hot on her trail. I know he reads the UW forum, what coach with half a brain wouldn't? I'm confident UW has the inside track, but maybe I'll tweet to the UW coaches just to be sure they know she exists. I know they appreciate my assistance. Time to stick the bird in the heater.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

Another game where the score doesn't even remotely tell what happened during the game.

Cornell's goalie played an absolutely amazing game stopping a ton of close range shots.
