Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

A message from the "in" box from our beloved ;) AD, BA, Season tickets are proposed to go up to $50/$25 from $30/$15 next year. It's still a good deal, but if it gets near triple digits on adults I'd have to give them up. Right now I spend $90 on 2 kids and 2 adults, in a couple years I'll have to adjust that to 3 adults and 1 kid.

You're complaining about $2.25 a game to see one of the 2 best teams in college hockey over the last decade?!? I get that nobody likes price hikes but that is ridiculously cheap entertainment.

I did say it's still a good deal and a I really wasn't complaining if you read closely..........I was projecting having to pay 100/50 would be too much. $350.00 would be too much to spend for the season. At that point I'd pick and choose certain games. Hopefully it never gets to that level.

Once again, it's time to end the streak. Not thrilled with the schedule playing the Gophers after a month off. Hopefully, they'll come out better than the men last Friday who looked completely unprepared off of their break. At least five of the Badgers played in international competition over the break.

While not able to make the road trip to the Cities, looking forward to watching tomorrow's game on BTN. Should be a great environment.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

The streak is itself meaningless. It does not affect the importance of or the outcomes of these 2 games. What happened in the past is only useful from a teaching perspective, and I doubt there is much to be gained from the 2 games earlier in the season between these 2 since they were from so long ago. Both teams have evolved since then. I am looking very forward to the game tonight. I'll have to DVR and watch when we get home or watch after Church tomorrow before or after the Packers. At least I won't have to worry about finding out the result before I see the game. Let's go RED!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I wonder if single game ticket prices will also be going up.

The season ticket price hike is kind of a double edge sword. Raising the price could actually be good, because you'll have fewer empty seats at "sold out" games, but at the same time, with the complete randomness of the schedule from year to year, I know I (and thus assume others) will actually have to look first to decide if I can even make it to enough games to make it worthwhile. Right now, I just renew without thinking about it, and assume I'll be able to get to enough games to make it worthwhile.

I understand & agree with your main point but you may not be looking at it the right way. If you got 20 games a year that would only be $17 a game, heck it cost nearly that to go to a dang movie & many of them are crappy while you have the pleasure of watching a great hockey team that only loses to the Gophers ;). I feel the same way about MN though. While I believe they should have a packed house every game (it will be today & tomorrow) I know when that day comes dear old U will jake the prices & possibly add seat fees like they do for the men. BTW dear old U now adjust single game ticket prices up on the mens side for popular games. An SRO is normally $25 but can go up to $35 . . . because they can.

Minnesota significantly cut adult women's hockey season ticket prices 1 1/2 years ago, from around $180 per ticket for the 2012-2013 season to $99 for the 2013-2014 season. It prompted me to buy a season ticket... I had been buying single-game tickets prior to the price cut because they were actually the cheaper option (for someone not minding a bench seat), especially with special event discounts.

don't tell the busterds but I would now pay the full price. A few years ago we would not have made enough games between following our daughters games. But to get to see the best game on ice $180 / 20 is only $9 (so it would be $20 a game to take the family) Heck, you can't beat that value anywhere in entertainment. I understand that coming up with all that money all at once is too much for many families, we budget a little every month during the year to save for it but its too much for some & thats too bad.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

More of the same in this series. Wisconsin played fairly well, but Minnesota played better, got some nice bounces and that was all she wrote. Top players for the Badgers need to step it up. Thought Desbiens was solid, but got hung out to dry on at least 3 of the goals. If Wisconsin can't salvage a split, the conference title will pretty much be wrapped up for the Gophers.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

The rodents don't need any more help like the ref trip goal. They are plenty good without post-Christmas gifts. The gals just have to keep coming at them, they'll break through. Let's go RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Not unexpectedly Wisconsin picked it up this afternoon & played even tighter than yesterday. This was another great game between two great teams who gave it all they had. 1-1 fit the game I guess. Sadly, the WCHA thinks a home run derby is the best way to decide a great game if it ends in a tie. Badgers got a gift when Cameranesi's goal was waved off because the refs could not see it in the net (pro tip: fall on the puck & even if your entire body is in the goal the ref's have to wave it off because they can't see the puck in the net!)

End result, MN gets the extra point and are now only 1 point behind WI with two games in hand.

EDIT: I should have noted that the Badgers scored with less than a minute to go in the second so that should make some people happy too.

Well, the rodents are well lubed up and ready for this weekend. The gals needs to come out fast on Saturday with no holiday break hangover in the first period.

In looking back at the Madison series, the 4-1 loss doesn't read that badly. They score with 1 second left in the first and 20 seconds left in the 2nd. Add in the aweful play at the blueline that led to the shorty, and it's an even game (the shots were 26-24). I do recall overall the rodents seemed like the stronger team when I left the rink that night.

The rodents tied the next game with 1:30 left in the game, so close to the s/o win. That game felt even or maybe a little edge to UW when I left the rink that night.

They just need to play smart and not puke up late in period goals and all will be ok. It hasn't been a problem since.

UW's freshmen have been playing key roles in this team, and with more games under their belt this time around I think UW is more than capable of bringing 2 wins home. I think it's important to wrestle the 1 seed out of BC/UM's hand so they have to play eachother in the semi (thinking WAY ahead).

About time on the late period goal....the rodents got 1 yesterday so at least it's even this last weekend.

What I take out of the series is that while UW has more depth with the great freshman class and lots of scoring depth, they lack a big dog or 2 that can pop that goal in a tight game against a top end team. I think Pankowski, Clark and Nurse can do that in the future, but they are not ready for primetime yet.

I am looking forward to 2 weekends at LaBahn coming up.

The bigger problem for the Badgers is that they can't shoot. They created all sorts of chances today but the finishing was terrible. Strictly in terms of chances they should have won by three goals and it wasn't stellar goaltending that prevented it.

Agreed. SOG after the first period were 11-6 Gophers, but the Badgers had numerous shot attempts blocked and/or go wide. If those had been on-net, they would have been in.

That's all part of being ready for primetime, cashing in on the golden chances.

I think the Gophers had 11 blocks in the first period; they were doing a good job of contesting the attempts and not giving UW time. In the second period, UM got more passive and the visitors had more time to make plays, and they had a few that went just wide of the post.

maybe the Gopher blueliners had something to do with that? certainly they had their hands full at times, even beaten several times, but that's to be expected given the opponent, against any other team they would have scored at least 3, likely 4 or 5, and maybe more.

so what's the over under on the number of days it will take Timothy to get back to believing the Badgers are #1?
I'm going with after next weekend

It came down to the quality of the losses and ties. Had UM not stumbled against Bemiji (loss and tie), I would have had them #1. I knocked UM harder for that weekend than I knocked UW for the first UM weekend.

If Mankato (or some other team) sweeps UM or UM losses 2 in a row, and UW runs the table, heck yeah UW's back to #1 at that point. Obviously it's not likely that it is going to happen. It's pretty clear, even through these objective cardinal and white glasses, that UM is just a bit better.
