It's alive for Gopher men's hockey. Some of us think that they should buy signage on the side of the zamboni at Ridder saying, "Culvers: We can't afford to sponsor this team."

The Gophers need to EARN it for the fans by scoring 5+ goals in the game. Whenever they get to 4 the student section will often lead the chant, "We want Culvers, We want Culvers..." I would think that's pretty good advertising plus it gets customers to its stores, most of whom probably buy other things in addition to getting their free scoop of ice cream.

The promo is officially dead for women's hockey, but if you go to Culver's (the Todd Drive one anyway) after a game in which the Badgers score 5, you'll see plenty of people in Badgers jerseys getting their free ambiguous scoop.

What? you thought the skunks were special? Thats cute.
But Culvers only covers the mens side. The womens tickets come with 5 cents a gallon off on gas no matter how many goals they score.

Word at the volleyball match tonight was that they're making progress toward getting the band to play at a few games this season (UMD and Clarkson were opponents mentioned). I'm surprised that any of this is happening before next season, but I guess people in the band are really pushing for it.

Agreed! I love the freshman line of Pankowski, Clark, and Wellhausen. Great balance. Pankowski has really been on a hot streak since Coach Johnson has put these three together. Though Wellhausen hasn't been showing up on the scoresheet as often as the other two, she is constantly working hard and creating space in the offensive zone! The points will come for her as too. All three skate so well! This line is fun to watch!

I see in the box score from Saturday that neither Nurse or Williams played. Injuries? Anything serious?

Who knows, Johnson is a copy of Belichick in regards to injuries. Maybe Tristar can get into practice and get us some scoop.

I believe there's more D's than can dress for any game, so there's always someone out in that regard. I have the line charts from the weekend somewhere, so I'll try to figure out what the change was from Friday to Saturday, but I'm pretty sure that one was innocuous.
Nurse did get hurt on Friday. She sat on press row Saturday with no visible wrapping, so I don't know what she hurt. Coach just confirmed the injury and that they hoped she could see a doctor when the team got back to Madison Saturday night. As was said, they're pretty tight lipped about injuries, so doubtful we'll know more.

To be fair, traveling all the way to Edina is about like going from Madison all the way to Verona, which the Badger Band actually used to do.

I wish......My goal is to get the the Saturday game @ Mankato. That's the extent of out of state travel for me at this point.

FYI, it was Drake in for Williams on Saturday and I don't think that's the only time that's happened this season and it won't be the last. Lauren is definitely the odd man out in this freshman class and she's got catching up to do in terms of matching the level of the girls who've seen all that international play.
Incidentally, though they were all very nice and this isn't a negative on anyone but rather a positive on her, I particularly liked Lauren when I spoke to all the freshman. She was charming and earnest in a very likable way. She was very aware of her status in terms of not being one of the "names" coming in and determined to not let that be a problem. She had me rooting for her after talking to her for about seven minutes.
