Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

UW dominating like they did is all you can ask for when trying to get new people exposed and interested in a new sport. Hopefully some come back.

I wonder if a game like that is better, or whether a good, close "one goal" game would be more interesting, more likely to get them 'hooked'. Like a game from the North Dakota series in a couple weeks, eg. Unknowable, I guess.

I think the latter is better, right up to the point where it gets too close and the home team loses. Minnesota had a stretch of several seasons where it seemed like every time we had a big crowd, we'd be playing Wisconsin, and not only did the Gophers lose, they played poorly.

You'd think the hockey team on campus that has actually won a game wouldn't have trouble drawing a crowd. Sorry, boys! ;)
Just sayin...

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Word in the press box is that it was a record for student attendance. My assumption is that since Fill the Bowl is blanket $1 tickets, they don't keep track of a difference in who buys the tickets.

Vetter, Decker and Rigsby are at the games on the regular. Vetter brings family in the area and Decker and Rigs are still in school at UW (and living together).

Even if you're likely to get a good matchup, there's a chance of that Fill-The-Bowl debacle.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Again, it's up to the UW to make the environment similar to the other high profile women's sports on campus like basketball and volleyball. They are not there yet...

From everything I've heard, women's basketball games rank below women's hockey games in terms of energy, but I can't judge that myself. Regardless...that loud pep band at volleyball matches does wonders, and can be replicated at women's hockey!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Took a "late lunch/sales call" and rolled in for the end of the first period and all the 2nd. Saw all I needed as Badgers lit the lamp 6 times in the 2nd. Decent sized crowd for a Friday afternoon. Nice to see Walters get the start and the shutout, but wasn't tested much during the time I was there.

They rolled the dice last year scheduling Minnesota for that game. Had it been the Friday game, it would have at least been an exciting experience even though it was a loss. There is always the chance of the team laying an egg, regardless of opponent (well, within reason).

I'll bite....UW was second in the nation in attendance average last year, averaging 2329, there's no worry/issues about drawing fans. We're interested in building the fan base to pass the rodents in attendance and sell out LaBahn every game. Try again.

Nice game gals, way to munch on a tasty cupcake.

IMHO, I think a high scoring game would get nubie fans more interested than a 3-2 nailbiter.

FWIW, two of the best attended games in the past two years at Ridder were losses, last year to UND, and this year to Bemidji
they were great games despite the outcome, with lots of energy

Bemidji was hardly a well attended game. Friday was Halloween and the attendance (as opposed to announced) as maybe 1100, Sat was not a lot better, still under 2000. UND & WI are the big crowds. We have been to the last 4 games against MN in Madison & their counting down there is a bit more flawed but then all places are bad to a greater or lesser degree. The fans in Madison are the best in womens hockey but I have no idea why that place isn't packed to the rafters every game. A great team & exciting games, they deserve better. Ridder is way too empty too often also.

Yeah, there is a band at Ridder almost every game & they make a real difference. As nuts as the crowd is at Labahn without one it would be pretty awesome with one.

I completely agree. That Friday game was nuts, and even the newbies would have gotten into it.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

That's the kind of weekend I was expecting to see that 16 goals scored.

The wins @ UMD and BSU are looking better every week as they solidify themselves in the top 10.

I realized this weekend there are 2 more Friday aft tilts.....the sue and SCSU. Buying season tix is almost a waste as I had to eat the Kato tix. I'll have to take a half day for the sue game and we'll see on the SCSU tilt. It's a bummer because the 2 of my kids will be in school, so I'll probably end up eating a couple tix for sure. It's just a shame the 5th rate treatment the UW gals get.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I get your complaint, but at $30, are season tickets are really wasted? They average out to less than $2 a ticket. I mean, you're eating it, but it's the cost of a candy bar.

it's a pretty good value for a hockey fan...especially compared to other UW events. Just tried getting UW men's basketball tix for my son...you have to go to Stub Hub...$100 & up for 300 level for a Big 10 game. Ouch!
But you have to admit....it was a pretty fun weekend to be a Badger with all of the winning going on in Madison! ;)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Does anyone know if the Badgers -- St. Cloud games will be live streamed next weekend and if so, what the cost is?

You could still take those Mankato tickets to Culvers and get some free custard out of it. I've done that more than a couple of times when I've had tickets I couldn't use, sell or give away.
