Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Ooh, I think you're going to regret calling Pankowski ordinary.

I said a great team like the rodents make a lot great players LOOK ordinary. That does not mean she IS ordinary, it means the tough matchup made her look ordinary. UW also did the same to the rodents Saturday. I suspect we'll see the entire freshman class progess as the year and years go on and they will be a dominant force bringing home some meaningful banners.

The D also had some ugly instances on the PP this last weekend (the Friday breakaway and numerous similar situtations that did not fully develop against us both nights). That has to improve as well. I am not used to seeing UW D on the PP look so shakey against pressure.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I agree brookyone.. I think that both Pankowski and Wellhausen are players with bright futures. As I watched the game Saturday on line I was really impressed with the way Wellhausen played. She engaged the Minnesota defense constantly with an aggressive forcheck. She is not a big player but she plays big and is not afraid. Her name was mentioned often and as I checked the post game stats it was interesting that she was among the shot leaders on Wisconsin despite not playing on the power play. It was too bad that she was the one that got whistled for the penalty that eventually turned into the tying goal for the Gophers. Then in overtime she hit the post for UW just a couple of minutes before the ot winner was scored. This was the first weekend against Minnesota for these 2 players and I think they will learn and grow from this experience!
I was impressed with Nurse vs. Minnesota...same as I was last season. First look at both Pankowski and Wellhausen. Both will be Border Battle pains in the rear for the balance of their careers...I'm convinced.

By the way, Dan Hamann, the Gopher play by play guy, came down heavily in favor of Desbiens pads. Thought they were great.

I thought the pads were awesome. Perhaps I'm showing my age, but I loved the retro-leather look.
You guys in Mad-town have a lot to be encouraged for. I think Pankowski and Wellhausen will be more than solid players. If ARD played like she did Saturday, the Badgers will give Minny a run for their money.
Nurse will be a superstar if she learns to get the puck on the net when the opportunity is there. I think she has had four breakaways v. Minny in the last three games (two in the semis last year) and hasn't gotten the puck on goal in any of those chances. Finally got that PPG on Sat.
Always have fun calling games in Madison.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

when #1 & #2 meet, nearly every player is going to look ordinary because the bar has been raised, strength vs. strength.
the 4-1 game is the exception, just like last year only one of the 5 games weren't all that close, the others were anybody's game until late in the 3rd if not the final buzzer

nice to see you all have morfed from seeing the glass half empty to half full over the last few days ;)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Does anyone know if the games in Bemidji this weekend will be video streamed? How about a radio stream?

It looks like 'yes' for $8 per game thru America One Sports. At the BSU website go to BSU Gameday Live under the Fan Zone prompt. The audio is also at the Gameday Live page.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I was told no video, but they have free audio via a local radio station that you can get online.

The whole Bemidji Women's Hockey schedule (including Wisconsin this weekend) is on the upcoming events page of America One saying the video will be live 5 minutes ahead of the event, and you can buy it for $8.

I don't think Bemidji had video last year, but it looks legit.

If UW is going to beat the rodents, then they need players who can make things happen against them. I am encouraged by Saturday's performance. I hope as the Fr get more experience they can turn the tables on them.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

If nothing else, this weekend should show the Badgers that they need to bring their best effort every night to beat elite teams, especially one that has had their number for 3 years. While Saturday was a radically better played game by Wisconsin, too many mistakes were made to beat a Minnesota that was better than I thought. With a line-up that features up to 10 freshmen/sophomores, I think the team will get better as the year goes along and should be in a good place when they make the return trip to Minneapolis in early January. Hopefully, they can put this weekend behind them and move on as league play continues.

Maybe even more important for the Gophers, after all the emotion spent in sweeping the No. 1 team in the country. The Gophers now have to face North Dakota which, other than the Gopher's loss in last year's NCAA Championship game, was the last team to beat them. IMO the Gophers have a far more difficult task ahead of them. The Beavers were off to a great start, but I don't think the far more talented Badgers will have any problem, and will win both games by at least three goals.

Of course as a loyal Gophers fan, I hope I'm wrong! ;)

Great kid!

That's good to know. I'm the curious type, so I'll be digging around on the web for more info on her hockey abilities, unless you can shed some light on her stats and hockey history.

She's has quote the goalie heritage to live up to once she gets to Madison. I have the ultimate confidence in Mark Johnson's ability to get great goalies for his program.

I don't think Bemidji had video last year, but it looks legit.

?This week in women's hockey" at the UW site says video is "N/A". At the BSU page for the links to the weekend's games against the Badgers there is no video link.

But, at the BSU Athletics webpage, if you go to BSU Gameday Live under the Fan Zone prompt, press the AmericaOne link under women's hockey and you will see the whole Bemidji Women's Hockey schedule (including Wisconsin this weekend). Press the more info button and it says the video will be live 5 minutes ahead of the event, and you can buy it for $8.

So, if it was a Gopher game I would still be holding out hope it was available for streaming.

So is there going to be a video feed or not? Or is it anyone's guess at this point?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Understood! The current UW roster includes 14 Americans and 10 Canadians. Of the 14 Americans all were multiple attendees of the USA National Camp during their prep years and 7 of the 14 were members of the U-18 National Team at least one year. So to answer your original question--it appears that this is what it takes for an "American Girl" to get a look from the Badgers!
But looking at full roster it's almost half Canadian. Just an observation.
