Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Apparently that was the Concordia band in disguise.

Hey, I was trying to be nice. They played a version of 'Sweet Caroline' that, until they got to the chorus, I didn't even know what the heck the song was. And I'm a '60s guy.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

I think that may have been the most entertaining hockey game I've watched all year. Turnbull's goal, off the perfect setup and pass, was spectacular, and Joesph's 5-holer was very nice as well. The offense played pretty well, although knocking in a rebound from time to time would be nice. I actually thought the 4 on 4 was one of the best offensive bursts I've seen from this team, even though it didn't result in a goal. And of course, Rigsby comes through in the clutch, and then some.

I don't get the point of Harvard hiring the band. From what I was told, they didn't even learn any of the songs Harvard usually does, so its not like it added anything for the small handful of Harvard fans actually there.

For me the best part of that sequence was Jaminski stepping up into the play, and Ammerman perfectly anticipating her doing it. Jaminski gets the pass in the high crease, puts the shot on net, rebound gets picked up by Turnbull, to Josephs and goal.

Wisconsin certainly deserved to win this game - they dominated in stretches of this game. Harvard just could not generate anything offensively to counteract the Badgers speed and physical play. I really felt the game was more one-sided than the final score. Yeah, we had great chances and Rigsby's stick save was amazing. But we really didn't push her or the Badger D all that much.

Good luck next week in Hamden. It's a great facility and campus.

Hawvawd actually had 4 golden chances to UW's 3. The once UW didn't score on was a great backdoor save in the 2nd period. Hawvawd had 3 golden chances they did not convert on, the one in the second period that resulted in the faceoff being outside the UW zone, the save of the century, and another scrum in the 3rd that some how the puck didn't get across the red line. Being outchanced, UW did dominate the 1st 2 period territorially (and in shots), but the 3rd was more Hawvawd. UW seemed to get conservative and Hawvawd seemed to get pretty wound up. The whole short bench discussion seemed to be a non-factor. Congrats on the valiant effort Harvard. On the negative side, you rented a band from WI to wear your school colors and play? How pathetic is that? Really?

Seems a bit elitist to send a replacement band. What's next.....rent a team?

I thought you guys were just kidding around with all the 'rented band' stuff. But I just did 'google images' if the Harvard Band.

You not kidding!?! OMG, that is a whole range of things like hilarious, pathetic, insulting to ALL involved... what the what???

...and now after a few minutes, it is the 'insulting' reaction that is winning out. I'm a little PO'ed!

At Badger football games, the UW Marching band *always* plays the other team's fight song as a sort-of 'welcome to Madison', both at the pre-game pep rally at Union South and during the pre-game stadium performance (and at the pep rally, they finish by saying 'Now Go Home').

If all Harvard team/school wanted was somebody to play the fight song a time or two, I'd bet the UW band would have been willing to do that, and do it better than whoever that was that showed up at LaBahn.

Seriously, what the hell?

a strong argument could be made that Cornell & Clarkson are already doing that.

and Wisconsin too

renting a band isn't all that unusual, Maine did it for their men's team a number of years ago

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Looking at your schedules, the next Wisco-Harvard match-up will occur in March or April only if the men's basketball teams were to make it to the Final Four (they are in the West and East brackets, respectively; think there's discussion of east/west disparity on some basketball fan forum somewhere?).

Otherwise it will be in the rowing nationals this spring!

Took the men's hockey teams trip to BC and BU (which I do not want to discuss) as an excuse to visit a friend in Boston in October. A highlight was that it was Head of the Charles that weekend. Spent our Sunday watching rowing and it was pretty great. It's not at all a thing I know anything about, but HOC is pantheon for the sport and it was cool to be caught up in the whirl of it all. It was the last thing we did before getting on a plane that night and it was a pretty cool way to end the trip.

I hadn't thought about it before today, but the 'top ten coldest winter' and 'thickest ice on the lakes in 25 years' news stories surely means that the UW crew is going to be late actually getting out into the water this year. That's gotta hurt getting ready for "rowing nationals this spring".

No worries: given the number of national titles Wisconsin has won over the years, they can never be counted out. Somebody should do a report for extra credit on how many times the two schools have met on the water, how many national titles they've each won, how many times they've defeated archrival Washington (aka "the "lurch, lurch, wobble, gobble" crew) going back in both cases (Wisco and Hvd, that is, obviously not Washington) to the 19thC ("before there was football, there was rowing").

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Does anybody know the specifics re. how to view the Wisconsin vs Minnesota Frozen Four game tomorrow afternoon?

The NCAA site has a link (not active yet. presumably active at game time) at

http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2014/03/21

that says, "Watch Live"

but there are no further details.
Will this be a video stream, that requires payment by credit card?
If so, what is the fee?
Will I want to download/install any plugins to help me watch the game?

etc.

Can anybody help me with this?
Thank you!

It will be free.

Try watching one of the archived videos or another live stream from NCAA.com before the women's hockey tomorrow.

(And thank you, NCAA!)

Will do a "trial viewing" with another stream, per your suggestion.

I need to figure out how to hook the laptop to the tv. I tried it last yeay not so successfully for the UW/Lowell fiasco. I was kinda happy not to see that debacle on the big screen.
