Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

WiscDC going with no signs? Say it isn't so! There's so much good and original material to use for a team you've never had the chance to taunt personally. We have to show these east coasters how it's done.

I don't know; I might. Seeing as we'll have to sit, if I do bring any, I wouldn't want to tape it under the guard rail like usual, because I'd want to see through that glass.

What's funny is that the band still has to pretend it's a neutral site. They'll play "On, Wisconsin" after goals, when a piped-in version would be played at a neutral site in their absense, but when the teams take the ice, the NCAA plays their own music, so we'll have to sing. It probably won't go as well as 2 years ago because that was a GOSH DARN good student section.

That reminds me -- since they have to 'pretend' it's a 'neutral site' (which, honestly, is asinine), does that mean that home teams can't use their goal horns? Or that they would have to use them for both teams?

I ask this because someone told me that Clarkson's goal horn is extraordinarily loud, and it would be kind of funny to hear it for BC's goals as well.

Wouldn't it be funny if after Saturday's game we still don't know the answer to this question? :p

Given that I am going to be driving 12 hours to watch a 2 hour hockey game, I can't say I would be all that amused!

It goes "whoo whoo" like a railroad train horn, and I've always assumed it's humorous, having to do with being engineers, but I'm not certain about that part.

Future.....UW needs more firepower to deal with the rodents and it looks like help is on the way, adding 4 top end players and losing only 1. Thanks for the insight into the incoming players. This is awesome news, I am really jacked up about nexy year.

Present.....I like UW's depth, but that depth is kind of a shallow depth with the lack of scoring. Those gals won't get outworked or outplayed, but they probably aren't going to score either. If UW gets behind, MJ probably will shorten the bench at some point, reducing the depth advantage for UW. Harvard does have silver bullet in their goalie. My worst fear is UW being down in the 3rd with Harvard just packing it in like Kato did with the seive cleaning up what gets through.
As far as Maschmeyer as a silver bullet - I think that's up for debate. She's at least a question mark. She absolutely could be a wall - but she just as easily could not. Despite the Patty Top-10 nod, she didn't end the season as the top goalie in her own conference. She was third in GAA, 2nd in Save % (though by just .001) and a distant third in win percentage. She had a rough end of the season, getting benched in the early round of the conference tournament. She was back in the net for the final game of their season, but I think at this point (and a Harvard fan can give us perspective) they're not exactly sure which version will show up. Presumably she'll step it up for the big game, but I'm not ready to say she'll pull off a performance like Butters did.

I guess from reading up on Hawvawd, she's been downright sievey lately, so I'm not feeling as fearful as the stats might tell me to be. She got shelled in her last start and didn't play in the crucial game 3 matchup against Yale, so I'm thinking her confidence might be a little shaken.

It's almost like you didn't read the responses that quoted you ...

The home team does use their goal horn, and the band can play "On, Wisconsin" and do the traditional SIEVE chant. I don't remember vividly, but I seem to recall that Mercyhurst got a goal horn and their piped-in fight song after their goal in the quarterfinal game 2 years ago.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

It's a little disappointing that its Friday afternoon and it looks like there are still some pretty decent seats available. Hopefully it will sell out tomorrow, but if it doesn't, I think it will say a ton about how badly the team has been hurt by LaBahn from a fan base perspective.

On a side note, I find it somewhat interesting that UW doubles the price of tickets for the NCAA games, going from $5 to $10, but I noticed that up at Ridder, it is actually less expensive to go to the NCAA game, from $10 reserved/$8 GA to $8/$5.

I don't think that will be a factor at all in the attendance, as UW has had the exact same ticket prices in place for years now, and I don't have a problem at all with paying $10 for this game, it just strikes me as a bit odd.

Because ticket sales would be better if they were playing in the Eagles' Nest???

think about it not only are you playing at the lebahn but you have the wiaa basketball crowd who will be there hours earlier taking up all the parking.....very horrible marketing and timing for a program

The other four times UW has hosted a quarterfinal - '07, '09, '11, '12 - the WIAA boys BB tournament has always been 'the next weekend'. So the existence of LaBahn allowed the WIAA to change their schedule? Or this is the year when WIAA has 'rotated' their weekend earlier while NCAA hasn't, and next year they'll be back to a week apart? Don't know.

The other option would have been Kohl Center, but not until Sunday. Would the NCAA have allowed that?

at worst this game should be moved to Sunday afternoon......doesn't matter where it is played

Other than The Shell, of course. On the other hand, pretty sure that venue would have been a sell-out! ;)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Is there that big of a crossover crowd between the wiaa and UW women's hockey that it's going hurt the hockey attendance? It's the ncaa's, I think the average uw fan would endure whatever they had to to get to LB and support their team in the biggest game of the year. Too bad the UW couldn't do something to the student prices to get a large number in the rink for a game of this magnitude. I am shocked that the rodents charge less for this game than UW does. I assumed the ncaa dictated the ticket prices.
