Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

I keep forgetting to mention Saturday my son got to ride the Zamboni between the 2nd and 3rd periods and his friend got to do it between the 1st and 2nd. ...

Then it looks like I talked to your son's friend in the tunnel behind the bench after I won $100 to Vitense doing trivia!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

He should have gone morph suit only. On second thought, tell him thanks for not going morph suit only.

I wanted him to wear his cape, but he wouldn't do it. I think it might have flapped in the breeze as the zamboni drove.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

So he WAS part of the Timothy A crew. I figured!

Yeah, I was coming back from the can and I saw 2 UW staffers by the boys and I'm thinking they were pounding the glass too much, but they were the event people with the waivers to sign.
Go to UW's website and there's a picture in the headlines and you can see us behind the Kato bench. You can see us behind the Kato bench. I have the furry badger headgear I borrowed from my eldest son. Usually I'm sporting a felmet. Say hey next time you see me. I'd say hey to you, but I feel a little dumb going up to the students and asking who is WiscDC and then you might not be there. It looks like our "permanent" seats are behind the opponent's bench, the kids like it there. Of course we won't be sitting there until next year as the ncaa seating is reserved.

We actually bonded a little with the Kato coach who looks like Fabio. We had some fun with him Friday night and talked to him in the concourse Sunday prior to the game. He's a cool guy. He gets the fact that the ribbing is all in good fun.

The UMD trainer gave the kids pucks that weekend and this weekend Fitzsimmons gave us a puck, so sitting there has it's benefits. Plus it's great when the opposing players look us deranged UW fans straight in the eyes.

He may not have worn the cape, but he was certainly rocking the cool shades.

On the Sunday game, the Badgers did seem to better impose their will and finally get some pucks by Butters. It's already been addressed on this thread, but I've never seen a officiating crew so disinterested in calling penalties. It's like they just wanted the game to get over as fast as possible. Though there were the delays in Packer and Ammerman having to pick themselves up off the ice. Hopefully, they (along with Burke who seemed to get nicked up late in the game) are good to go against North Dakota. The Badgers need to bring a healthy roster and their "A" game to Bemidji.

the problem with the lack of calls on Sunday if these wcha refs who let Mankato walk all over the Badgers like that, what the hell is NoDak gonna get away with which is traditionally an out of control hockey team????

A bit over the top don't you think. I think in the past, posters have accused just about every WCHA team of playing too physical.

Pull up the game tape from when NoDak came to Madison. (Also, I'm pretty sure Mankato is more "traditionally an out of control hockey team" on the women's side, because of that time their coach sent one of their players out to attack somebody, earning all kinds of penalties and suspensions.)

UW is the least penalized team in the WCHA and almost the least in the country. Any team is going to look "out of control" to the UW fans. If you bump a player in Madison, the crowd goes nuts.

UW is the least penalized team in the WCHA and almost the least in the country. Any team is going to look "out of control" to the UW fans. If you bump a player in Madison, the crowd goes nuts.

The crowd also goes nuts if you punch a player in the head, take out someone's legs with your stick in open ice, hit someone from behind into the boards, spear someone in the gut, clearly reach around and hold a player from behind (impeding a would-be odd (wo)man rush), throw a solid hip check while the puck is 40 feet down the ice, or anything else that is a really easy call for a ref standing 10 feet away staring right at the offense.

That last part is what enrages me the most. I hate those plays where the players are in the corner with the puck, the ref is less than 15 feet away, staring right at the action with no obstructions, a textbook illegal action happens, and they just ignore it. There are times when I understand how difficult it can be to be a ref. None of the things I mentioned are difficult for anyone with a decent knowledge of hockey rules.

Come to think of it, I'm a little surprised we didn't see more punches thrown out of the blue. I've seen it quite a bit at LaBahn, but not so much this past weekend. The other stuff happened.

You know it's bad when Badgers fans are vocally bewildered when a Badger gets away with something.

Packer did take a crosscheck penalty at the end of Sat's game, but I did not see it to know if it was legit or not. There was way worse stuff happening Sunday that didn't get called, mostly against Kato.

I'd love to be able to watch Friday's game. Has anyone looked into video being available yet?

All games will be streamed live and without cost by America ONE on the WCHA website (www.wcha.com). Veteran broadcaster Jack Swanson and Kelly Schultz will provide commentary.

I hate the plays when a player falls down to the ice after body contact (which is legal), the fans scream and the ref calls a penalty.*

(*Speaking generally - not at Sunday's game).

I think this is a key item. I don't think any (or at least many) Badger fans are saying that Mankato was guilty of all un-called penalties. There were multiple times where I said out loud, "That should have been a penalty on (fill in Badger player name)" and just shook my head. Obviously as biased fans, we yelled when we thought there should have been a penalty on Mankato.

While I didn't see the Packer penalty first-hand, my wife did and said it was deserved and seemed clearly out of frustration.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Similar to past years, if the Badgers host a NCAA quarterfinal, the prices are $10 for adult and $5 for youth/student/senior. However, it will be reserved seating. Seems reasonably priced and would hope it's a sell-out.

One of the things that has always puzzled me about officials is when they see one of these "borderline" plays and they give the safe sign or holler, "No, no!" I'm not talking about a potential hand pass or playing the puck with a high stick where the actions would make sense. I mean like when the puck carrier is tripped and loses the puck. Is the referee indicating that he/she saw the play but it isn't a penalty? Or that he/she saw the play, it may be a penalty, but he isn't going to call it and doesn't want anyone else to call it either? If it isn't a penalty, then why is any action necessary? I don't know; I likely never will.

While you're finding out the answer to that one.....also find out why if a player is checked illegally and it's not called becomes a penalty if there is retaliation and both can go to the box......and why we don't see diving penalties unless a coincidental penalty is called on the opposite team?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

...Of course we won't be sitting there until next year as the ncaa seating is reserved.

If you send an email to the ticket office asking if you can request a certain seat location, they can help you out.
