Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

If you send an email to the ticket office asking if you can request a certain seat location, they can help you out.

Interesting...I am trying right now to reserve tickets and the site is telling me I don't have any season ticket request pending....of course I cam clicking on reserving ncaa tickets.

The Minnesota ticket office told me they are not yet selling NCAA tickets. I guess they must have to wait until the game is officially awarded, or the opponent identified, or something. The guy I talked to was confused by my request, almost as if the game isn't in the system yet.

Check the email you have associated with your UW Athletics ticket account. They sent one out to season ticket holders offering an opportunity to request tickets in advance for the quarterfinal, should Wisconsin be at home. I clicked the link, which took me to a page in the ticket site. I "paid" $0.00 to request a seat; I don't think there was a way, online at least, to select a preferred section. It did ask for the same card information I would give if I were purchasing actual tickets. The process was essentially the same as buying actual tickets, except no money was paid yet, and it's just to make sure you have first crack at them when they do go on sale. It was after this that I found out they were reserved, so I emailed them requesting my usual section/row. I was then asked for my "patron ID" (the number you use to log on to the UW ticket site) so they could make the request on my account.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

My ticket reservation issue was that I am not a season ticket holder, my wife is, so when I put my patron number in it said I could not reserve any tickets. I called the ticket office and I'm all set now. I did request to sit behind the opponent's bench. Hopefully the opposing fans will be nice. There was a Kato mom that was hating on us bigtime Saturday. I guess the fact they were winning embolden her. We were saying anything out of the normal. I'd hate to have some sensitive eastern fans getting on us. We just ignore the haters, though it's hard for the kids sometimes.

robertearle.....Nice job correcting the error on the JSOnline article about the UW gals. I give them a A for effort, but an F for execution. You can't blatently screw up on a "fact", that if true, would alter one's perception of UW. At least there has been more UW hockey articles in general on their website. Exposure in the Milwaukee market is a good thing.

I may have to leave work a little early today, or pretend to work and watch the game at work. I worked extra last night so either way I'm good with the boss.

Let's Go RED!

Oooh, that is a great catch. I didn't really read the article - just skimmed it to get the gist that they were writing the story many had written months ago and then blew it off, so I didn't at all see that glaring mistake.

On the one hand, I should be happy whenever they cover the team because more exposure of that magnitude is great. But since it's always poorly done and a re-tread of an article we've seen 6 times already, it just annoys me. Way to catch up, JS.

Wow, there is a nice interior shot of Bemidji's arena on the UW website promoting the upcoming game blog. Wish it wasn't 8-9 hours away from Madison. To my knowledge, the closest WCHA tournament was Rochester, MN about 10 years ago, which is still a 3 1/2 hour drive.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

I don't see UW ever getting a Frozen Four, considering the size of LaBahn, but I would think it would be a good fit for the Final Face-off.

Rochester would be the closest spot it has ever been, the bigger thing to me, though, is that this is the first time since 2003 that is has been some place other than Minneapolis or Duluth.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Seriously, the UW band can't be bothered to play a sold-out Friday night game in LaBahn against Minnesota, but they will travel to Bemidji, where the Badger band probably outnumbers the Badger fans?

Gophers have separate bands for men's and women's hockey, even though the two arenas are a wrist shot away from each other. Pretty rare occurrence when either team plays at home without their band present.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Recent offensive struggles continue as they get shut-out 1-0 by No Dak. Only 2 goals in the last 9 periods. Hopefully, this loss will not cost them a home game next weekend. Badgers now have a three game losing streak in the WCHA Frozen Four which is a little troubling.

I know this is a stretch looking for positives, but maybe an extra day rest (and no chance of getting anyone injured) will help them next Saturday night.

They will almost certainly host a game next week. But, yes, lack of goals in very troubling, and disappointing.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Yeah, I'd be shocked if the Badgers don't host their game next week. They were second going into this weekend, and one loss to North Dakota added to the entire season so far shouldn't drop them to 5th.

3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th are all ECAC teams, meaning three of them have a loss coming this weekend. Never say never with the wonderful Pairwise rankings, but pretty much no way for them to drop all the way to 5th.

A few of us have been playing with my predictor and it doesn't appear that Wisconsin can fall out of a home ice spot.

Grant, have you checked your predictor against the Mercyhurst result? You have them 0030 too high compared to USCHO's RPI. I think you said (understandably) that you didn't try to do the secondary and tertiary 'effects'. Maybe because Syracuse is a Mercyhurst opponent that just lost a game accounts for the 0030?

The predictor doesn't work with an incomplete 'bracket' -- as in, you can't just delete the finals results and have it spit out resulting RPIs. I'm guessing that's what you're trying to do.

Looking at the second sheet in the workbook ("RPI") though, and if you go to the RPI W1 and RPI L1 columns, you'll have each respective teams' RPIs depending on the result of their first game (RPI W1 being the RPI if the won, of course, and RPI L1 being if they lost). Looking at Mercyhurst on USCHO versus my sheet, it looks like I have Hurst as undervalued by .001 and Syracuse as overvalued by 0.0002.

One thing with my RPI is it can't remove the results against bad opponents so I had to put in an adjustment (Column H on the 'RPI' sheet is how much). That adjustment is how far off the USCHO RPI (which DOES remove 'bad wins') was from my calculated RPI. I just added that adjustment in to every result in the table. It's not perfect but I figured it was better than nothing.

That could partially explain why Syracuse's expected vs. actual result is closer than Mercyhurst's, because they didn't have a 'bad win' adjustment to further muddy the results.

All I'm doing is opening it, and looking at the numbers it opens with, because it already has a full set of results, including a Mercyhurst semi win. It shows them at .5696, while USCHO now has them at .5666.

Its the version I downloaded this morning, created last night at 11 PM (your time, I assume).

The sheet is calculating Mercyhurst's RPI including tomorrow's game that they haven't played yet, that's why.
