Per Baggot: Looks like Eaves is going to shuffle things up a bit including Sean Little seeing his first action as a Wisconsin Badger. Also note Zengerle moving to his natural position of center this weekend between Murray and Barnes. Expect the Dolan line to match up with the Connolly line all weekend.

Patrick Johnson-Sean Dolan-Ryan Little
Michael Mersch-Craig Smith-Derek Lee
Jordy Murray-Mark Zengerle-Tyler Barnes
Jason Clark-Jefferson Dahl-Sean Little

Jake Gardiner-Justin Schultz
Craig Smith-John Ramage
Eric Springer-Frankie Simonelli

Scott Gudmandson
Brett Bennett

Got a solid tip on the lines for this weekend. Looks like Eaves is going to shuffle things up a bit including Sean Little seing his first action as a Wisconsin Badger. It would be nice if Sean Little could turn into a Ben Grotting type player. What is the good word on him coming into this year? If I remember correctly, he is a 4 year grinder type guy. Also, what type of player is Jason Clark suppose to be? I didn't see a whole lot of him on the ice this past weekend.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

You do realize that your jealousy of the Wisconsin program is pathetic right? Like we honestly don't care.

I'm only jealous of the lavish $36,000+ Wisconsin spends for each hockey player. I might be jealous of UW's success if UW were rated higher in the polls.
Back to the topic. Are you certain that "we honestly don't care" when your best players, recruited at considerable time and expense, depart long before their eligibility expires? Does the "we" you mention in your devil-may-care attitude toward early departure refer to all Badger fans, coaches, alumni, and the UW administration? Mike Eaves was scheduled to meet with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman 11/9 to discuss "player raids." Eaves is evidently not a "we."

I am looking forward to watching Sean Little play this weekend. I've watched him his whole time with the Gamblers ( watch him score the game winning goal in the USHL Championships) and loved his style of hockey. Now I get too cheer for both Littles this weekend. Hopefully Ryan Little gave his younger brother advice and told him not to get nervous and run into the Goalie :) :) :) :) this weekend.

Still upset about the frozen four beating your boys took?

I honestly don't lose any sleep over early departures. It's par for the course for a program like ours. It's part of the bigger picture and allows us to continually attract talented recruits.

Sure, I would have liked to seen Heatley or Pavelski as Seniors, but at least I got to see them for 2 seasons and both were ready for the NHL, so good for them.

The fact that those guys came here and were successful will bring in more players who want to follow the same path. For every one or two of those we have at a time, we build around them with guys who we can develop over 4 years.

What are you gonna do, say "No Dany, if you won't commit to 4 years, we don't want you."

Very few people would object to to saying: "If you won't commit to making a successful program we don't want you." Why would any sensible person refuse to say, "If you aren't committed to earning a degree or the future success of our hockey program why should we pay all your expenses?" [$36,000 +]
The answer to this question is not immediately obvious. Please explain.

And then we wouldn't get the top recruits because they'd go elsewhere. It's a small price to pay for success.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

I do like the idea of Zengerle playing C and Barnes playing with him and Murray. It may give him a chance to show is offensive prowness more. Smith with Lee maybe will help wake him up too.

Springer makes me nervous.

I'm looking forward to seeing the game live and in person tonight.

Let's go RED!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

Glad they are moving Zengerle to C, his playmaking ability is great, but also think he is much better in the face-off circle then Smith. Haven't seen the numbers, but in the games I've seen, Smith doesn't win many. Maybe just used to Geoffrion owning every face-off.

Over the last several years, Wisconsin has been very good at winning face offs. At the end of the game, Wisconsin almost always has more. But not this year.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

I hope the guys bag in the first picture is 11" or smaller.

No joke. The UW/Kohl Center needs to seriously reconsider the asinine 8.5x11" bag rule. I have seen so many angry confrontations at the turnstiles for both mens and womens games about this rule. Women are being turned back to their cars with purses that no one in their right mind would consider obscenely large, simply because they are larger than the piece of paper that the Per Mar guy is holding.

For a sport that is not sold-out on a season basis, you'd think the UW would want people to think positively of their visit to the Kohl Center for a hockey game so that they might consider making a return trip. Being informed that your everyday purse is a terror danger and having to trudge it back to your car in the cold -- despite continual warnings from UW Police to not keep any valuables in your car due to break-ins -- is not the way to start off the evening on a positive note.

Simply requiring bags to be searched has always worked in the past and should be sufficient now.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

thoughts on tonight's absolute circus of a game

UMD
great skaters
#14 or 24, flaherty, can pick em up and put em down, jc that kid looked fast
Dylan Olson...stud. great d-man. Hawks have a great pick there
goalies....tsuck

UW
- #19 - has he lost it? gardiner is getting beaten waaaaaaaaaaay more often that I recall happening in his 1st 2 seasons
- #3 - for the 1st 1/2 of the game was possessed, played w/uber confidence, stick-handled and skated well, last 1/2 tentative
- goalies...please call the UW DB's tomorrow on their thoughts on how to FORGET awful performances, thanks
- #7 - monster. Barnes is going to be the best of the frosh and possibly the next Steven Reinprecht. he's got great moves and nose for the puck
- #25 - Mersch, keep doing what you're doing please. results will follow.
- TEAM - sometimes I saw a few guys try and do the ole Sauer-esque "play w/5 pucks out there" (attempting to do TOO MUCH alone) - remember you're a team, don't try and skate through 3 guys by yourself, MAKE THE FREAKIN PASS, and then SKATE HARD AFTER THE PASS FOR THE RETURN PASS
- conversely - the d-men don't look nearly as confident skating the puck up ice now for reasons unknown to me. did UND rattle this team that much?

#29 and #14 not enough info on Clark and Dahl to know what they can do yet...weird. though clark looked a step slow to me

overall I'm kinda ****ed. You can't go blowing 3-1 leads anywhere but at home that's really disappointing. this one may hurt UW's chances down the road if they're an NCAA bubble team

and once again...goalies, please call up the db players at UW or the Defensive backfield coaches. shake this **** off and be the brick walls you've been in every other game

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

Just how long is a "generation" at UW, considering the number of early departures?
Die in a fire.

Per Mar is my sworn enemy. Back in my Crease Creature days, I had seats in 117. After a period against UMD, the Bulldogs were heading into the locker and I referred to one of them as "Goldilocks". During the intermission, a Per Mar "security" guard came by to give me a talkin' to about not taunting the other team. Absurd.

Oh, and UW's policies on signs and flags is absurdly stupid. I still don't understand how Phil never get's his "Let's", "Go" and "Red" signs taken away, since those are clearly at least the size of two 11" x 17" sheets put together. Not that I'm complaining- I love Phil like the rest of you- I just don't get the double standard.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

Getting UND and UMD back-to-back is a pretty tough test for this young team: two very good but different opponents. UMD is FAST and a little inconsistent, while the Sioux have a more controlled (I'm not referring to discipline) style of play. I wonder if it's harder for a team as young as the Badgers to play these 4 games at home, with the kind of tradition and expectations the fans have? I mean, on the road against these opponents there would not be much pressure, and splits would be considered success. At home, the expectations are a little higher and the pressure turned up a notch or two. This could develop like a Hakstol-type season for the Badgers. Good luck tonight, the Dogs won't get any slower.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

The exact opposite happened per Eaves wishes; during this rebuilding year the goaltenders have to step up. Up until last night, they were pretty good. I understand there will be mistakes IN FRONT of them, but there were a few put in by UMD last night that were pretty weak.

I'm wondering if all 4 goalies last night were drinking from the same bubbler?
