Wisconsin Badger 2025 Offseason

The -2 doesn't really bother me at all, he's more of a defensive D. The D were +13, +1, +1, 0, -7, -13, -16. Pair him with Dexi or Hensler and the -16 or -13 will improve for either one and hopefully Dubinsky is in the plus someplace. The +13 and a +1 are gone.

That must mean no Stout coming next year, so that is 7 D with no Fr (not sure if I like that or not) plus Horbach for depth. The following year Stout and Osburn come in.

I hope Gramme does really well at his new home. His confidence this year was zippo.
8D by my count: Seniors Dexheimer and Dubinsky, Juniors Palodichuk and Schulz, Sophomores Hensler, Phelan, Knox and Freshman Osbourn.

They will still need some forwards to leave or not come as freshman. And they need a third goalie.

Eli Pulver has been added from the portal, a Minnesota State goalie. Played in one game this year and allowed one goal, sat behind Alex Tracy most of the year. Played in the BCHL before that and had a few solid years there. I'm curious if Hastings was involved in his recruitment at all before he left Mankato, Pulver committed to MSU in January 2024 but maybe its possible Hastings got the ball rolling there.

Interesting he's not a rental but a long term guy and not just a warm body. This may be good as Hauser won't feel the pressure to the THE guy as a Fr. He and Pulver can grow together. It will give stability to the position and it won't be a revolving door anymore, unless of course both are SO good they leave early.

Well, that's now figured out and have to think Hauser is the guy. Still think there are 2-3 forwards that need to be figured out - freshman delayed or some leaving.

One thing to watch is who and where Hensler gets drafted. I know he was projected as a first round pick before the season started. Hopefully whatever team drafts him will want him to stay a year and develop. I suppose if he leaves early we could just bring Stout in. Dubinsky is a nice addition. Though I'd prefer guys that have more than 1 year of eligibility left. After Stout, I think there is really only 1 defensemen we have committed for future seasons. Mason Peabenburg, Maybe we will dip into Canada for future D commits? Although there are a few Dmen on the USNDT that are uncommitted. I think one from Illionois as well.

He sure didn't play like a guy who was the first round draft pick. I think he's got two years left in college.

College hockey nxt had Hensler on the second team all rookie team......
At times he did struggle, but I think he showed a bit of improvement throughout the year as he got more comfortable. I also think it can be difficult for the younger freshman defensemen to come in to the NCAA and succeed right away, and I do think think he deserves to be recognized as one of the top freshmen D in the country.

FWIW most mock drafts have him going in the 15-25th pick range, and we'll see how the next year or so plays out but I'm pretty optimistic he takes a step forward.

Former Badger William Whitelaw transfers from Michigan to Western Michigan University. Third team in 3 years.
Interesting that both Whitelaw and Lucius just kinda had meh seasons this year. Whitelaw had 18 points, just one more than a year ago, and was mostly kept on Michigan's 3rd/4th lines. Lucius missed first half of the year at ASU, and wasn't particularly impactful when he was playing.
