Wisconsin 2020 Off-season thread - Serenity Now!

I'm not so naive to not understand how important football is to the larger athletic department budget, but you'd think this many years into being the Athletic Director, and not Football Director, Barry would be a little less transparent in his disdain and lack of any caring about any of the other sports when talking to a reporter.

"Football is back on the fall schedule at the University of Wisconsin but it doesn't appear that competition will resume so quickly for other fall sports.

Athletic director Barry Alvarez said Wednesday that, while no firm decisions had been made, he didn't see Badgers volleyball, soccer and cross country teams returning to a fall schedule.

Alvarez said he has been working on football's return to play, which the Big Ten announced Wednesday, and didn't have specifics on the other fall sports. The league said football games will begin the weekend of Oct. 23-24."

Knowing that there will now be criticism of the return to play plan reversal, you'd think he'd at least be aware that most of that criticism would be "this isn't about athletes, it is about football money." And, he probably shouldn't have basically said that himself.

This is true, BUT at least some money coming in for FB via TV will help finance the rest of the sports, unless BA takes all the FB $$ and puts the rolls of hundos in old empty buckets of cat litter in his basement for safe keeping. Not that I know of anyone else who does that.......

Seems like hockey should start at the he same time as football. But.....

Yes, boys, I was being a smart ass. Tim has me pinned exactly as I am, and we've never met!

Let's face it, 2020 sucks. Nothing wrong with a little levity. (But I did predict it ;) ). One of the few things that doesn't suck is the NHL Playoffs and a couple of things I do to let off steam. They are holding me together! I'd much rather have fun than walk around hunched over with my face pointing at the sidewalk.

So basketball has a start date...what about hockey?

side note, just looked at the roster for the first time since last season...yikes...can they reach 15 wins even?

Madison Caps are dead for a year. The Commies at the Dane County level allow dorms to get filled with 1000's and 1000's of kids from all over the country but the Madison Caps can't play hockey in an empty rink? We all know what happens in those dorms is 1000% more risky than what happens at the rink. And wait, Football is ok to play but hockey isn't? I'm mean there is no consistency in the decisions other than money talks. Complete insanity. But wait, it is Madistan after all, right? In Communism we're all equal, right? Think again comrades.

The Dorms are controlled by the UW which is a state facility. Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena is governed by the Commies at Dane County. You are correct though Tim, Football is ok but volleyball isn't, there is no consistency. Hockey is remains to be seen

Saw this mentioned on Todd Mileswki's twitter. Wouldn't surprise me if Caufield left.

I’m surprised he’s still there honestly. His ego/selfish play and lack of awareness for defense (I.e. being a well rounded player) is astounding.

he’s not Pavelski or Heatley by a long shot. Much closer to the primadonna Robbie Earl.

he won’t be able to forego defense to look for accepting home run passes nor sit at one side of the net just waiting for a one timer all day on the pp in the Show. He’ll get crushed.

Those things were in my head, but I was trying not to be too negative! You took care of that for me!

I don’t like ragging on him cause I thought he’d be or could be a Heatley or Pavelski type but the disappointment in Cole, the team and coaches last year really soured me like no other year.

..one day things will turn bright for the program again but I don’t think it will be under Granato/Oseicki unfortunately.

Agree. I was on board with many of you last season hoping he would leave.

I think the writing is on the wall for a lot of athletes on the program. The odds of a season get lesser and lesser every day. If you're only planning on sticking around for one more year, then it's in your best interest to play elsewhere.

Also, you're right in regards to your edit. This site is a disaster now. I couldn't even like your post. It also seems very clear that the admins either don't care about how broke the site is or just don't want to bother with it. They're making it harder and harder for me to want to come here and talk hockey and that's very disappointing.

I say take it easy on Cole. He said be was coming back and the Canadian's GM supported it. Now the GM wants him to go play in Sweden due to c. I wouldn't be pizzed if he left because the guy who is signing his checks tells him to leave. How many drafted players are going to go against the wishes of their GM?
