Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Not if they are still left over from the winter, e.g. winterberry shrub may have some red berries still.

They're not leftover from the winter. I wouldn't have commented the way I did if they had been.

No kidding!

Though one could still see that the further east you traveled, the more snow you seemed to get.

There was about 2" on the ground when I left home this morning, and more falling; yet there was no snow on the ground at all when we arrived in Manhattan 2.5 hours later....

Weird.

We had an appointment at a vet hospital that takes us over some commuter highways that typically have horrific traffic in bad weather. So we allowed extra time. Instead, the traffic was lighter than usual and we arrived way early. Fortunately, the doggy oncologist was able to see us right away and we were on our way home by the time the appointment was scheduled to begin.

Looks like we are about to get 24 hours of snow in south central Wisconsin. It's been a mild winter, but this still sucks.

Blizzard warning in Denver. 5 to 10 inches expected in the metro.

burd, if it's the same storm system that's supposed to hit the Twin Cities, it stalled out over Willmar, WSW of the Twin Cities by about 60 miles. I'm really hoping it dries up while stuck in that area just because I don't want to deal with the mess it would make for the evening commute today.

We escaped with just about an inch on the ground today, though there was quite a bit of snow. Just a little too warm. Still supposed to get 6-8, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Glad I don't have a city commute.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Man, the far south metro was a disaster.

Yeah, tell me about it. Depending upon which part of my car I was clearing after getting off the bus, there was between six and ten inches of snow. Meanwhile, when getting on the bus in Minneapolis, not even a dusting of snow on the ground.

Add to that, I figured it was a good time to start using some of that snowblower gas that hadn't been touched all winter long. Tried starting it, but forgot to set the choke, so I've flooded the engine. I'm giving it another 30 minutes before I try to start it again.

Overall 15-20 inches. DIA was closed - not just holding flights, they CLOSED completely. Aurora was using a farking MRAP to assist stuck drivers. National Guard has been called out.

Unofficially, I'd say we got about 12" outside my house. I went out to shovel my driveway and sidewalk last night, and it was still falling at a pretty good pace. In fact, the parts where I shoveled first were already covered white by the time I had finished the sidewalk.

Wow. We really ducked this one (so far). Just about 1 1/2 inch of snowy slush remains. We were right on the edge.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

It was a funny storm in that the ground was warm enough to keep the snow from really building up as fast as it could because the base layer kept melting. It made shoveling easier as there wasn't any ice to fight. Then I went outside this morning to put the trash can on the curb, and the driveway was just a sheet of ice, especially where the city plow had kicked up the slush from the night prior onto the driveway.
