Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?
Smart move Joe. Here in NJ we live in a condo development (although the units are individual houses) and our board of directors refuse to allow anyone to have a generator. So it is problematic for us. In the Adirondacks we have a huge Cummins 35Kw generator that can run perhaps 4 houses. When the power has gone out there, we hardly know it as the generator kicks in and everything goes on as if nothing happened. Since it runs on Liquid Propane it can get expensive if run at full tilt fort a few days, but up there it is an absolute necessity since life can become brutal without power in those frigid temperatures. With two elderly in-laws in the basement apartment, we had to do something if the power went out for a long periods of time. Last year we bit the bullet and bought a stand by generator (7kw) that powers essential systems and some convenience items. We've used it 4 times since and expect it to kick in this weekend.
