Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Depending on where you were in the MPLS/STP area, you got a bit more than a dusting up to 6-7" last night. The farther north you were, the less snow you got.

Got about 3" here at most. Not too bad at all.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

I can't remember heavier (weight-wise) snow in recent years. Holy ****, that was hard work - even with a snowblower. We got just over 8 inches of the heavy, wet stuff (was supposed to be 1-2 and not accumulate). Very glad I got my outdoor Christmas decorations down on Monday morning, otherwise they'd be there until March now.

It is currently warmer in Nome, Alaska than it is in Denver, Colorado.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Today was the first day this winter where it felt cold. 23F this morning with a wind chill of 7.

13 here and going down. Brrr. Winter may actually be here.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

While the winter solstice has the shortest amount of daylight, I was initially surprised to learn that it is generally not the day of the earliest sunset or the latest sunrise.

In the northeast, the earliest sunset occurs around two weeks or so before the solstice, while the latest sunrise occurs around two weeks or so after.

I was reminded of this quirk this morning, as my train was rolling across the East River into Manhattan, the sun was barely clear of the horizon.

18 when I drove across the Potomac this morning. Supposed to soar up into the 30s by the weekend.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

We're forecast for a high of 0F on Sunday here in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. It might be the only way the Vikings can win their game come Sunday.

Ugh. I can't think of an important road game the Hawks have won in sub-freezing weather in their entire history.

This is what makes me mad. MN went half-arse on the stadium. Gonna force us to pay for the stadium? Take advantage of the weather! Bud Grant days! Do this!

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

So last night for West Michigan, they predicted the Snowpocalypse, 5-9 inches, blowing, gusting, etc.

Woke up this morning to find we only got 1 inch.

Must be unfortunate. Expecting 9" and only getting 1".
