Will Brockport Have To Change Its Name?

Re: Will Brockport Have To Change Its Name?

...and then there's Tupper Lake, which decided a few years back that things weren't confusing enough and voted (apparently under the advisement of the Department of Redundancy Department) to change the name of the town (Altamont) to match the name of the village (Tupper Lake) and doom abstractors to explaining that a given piece of land could be in Tupper Lake, but not Tupper Lake, Tupper Lake. Woo.

Re: Will Brockport Have To Change Its Name?

There are also two Jericho, NYs and I know of three Stillwater, NYs(Have been told there are more), and 2 Mount Vernon, NYs

If you're going to talk about that in a conversation having anything to do with Peru, NY...

Peru, NY (Clinton County)
Peru, NY (Onondaga County)

Re: Will Brockport Have To Change Its Name?

Brockport would more than likely remain a Hamlet with no government, as have many before them. There are many in Clinton county. Peru, AuSable Forks (which is also part of two townships covering two counties), Mooers, Mooers Forks, Ellenburg, and all of its namesakes just to name a few.

So would the village idiot have to change his name to the hamlet...idiot.

Ah, I'm sorry.

Re: Will Brockport Have To Change Its Name?

The Peru, NY in Clinton County that was the 2001 New York State Class B High School Football Champion.

The state championship versus Chenango at the Dome actually had a live video stream that I watched from my dorm in Massachusetts; hi-tech stuff in 2001 (and I really wish I'd had recording software at the time, as I'm pretty sure the company that filmed it folded years ago :(). That Peru team was great to watch - Ewald ran as sophisticated a passing offense as you'll see in NY high school football, and it tore unfamiliar defenses apart. Plus, PHS was in the depths of its "Football: The One Sport Where We Always Suck" era, so it was nice to have somebody in the area to root for :)

They still suck ;)

They are still Class B, but their football team got demoted to Class C... speaks wonders. :D

Actually that year PHS didn't do that bad in 2001. They went 5 and 4. It was my son's Jr year. We won't talk about his Sr. year.

Ah, my bad. Bitter memories of stuff like winning a game early on in my freshman year and then winning the next one when I was a junior :o

Could be worse, you could be playing football in Malone...  My grandparents grew up next to the Goodells. One of the nicest people you could ever ask to know. While they may not win alot of games, I am sure most people enjoy playing for Pat. (that is if he is still there, I think he is)

He coached this past year( I think it was him), took over for Mike Bourdeau who stepped down as head coach after 9 or 10 years.

Re: Will Brockport Have To Change Its Name?

If Brockport dissolves, they should totally change their uniforms to the gold and blue with the three crowns. I always loved those jerseys.

May not be blue and gold, but the three crowns are taken already:

Re: Will Brockport Have To Change Its Name?

GA would have to pay Bport for the Three Crowns Trophy. If Brockport changes to Sweden College, then we can get ABBA to do their new alma mater. I wish I were announcing still because I could say that Brockport has met their Waterloo. :D :D :D

Re: Will Brockport Have To Change Its Name?

Then you go the other way in Jefferson County. You have the Village of Carthage in the Town of Wilna. The Village of West Carthage in the Town of Champion. Separated by the Black River with a 600 foot bridge. 2 mayors, 2 police departments, 2 fire departments, 2 village boards and a bunch of locals that are just starting to talk about combining services. The only common things are the post office and the School. The 2 villages are probably less than 4 square miles in area combined and a total population of prbably less than 7500!

Sounds like the town (or village, I don't know what it was) where my brother used to live in Minnesota -- Lauderdale. It was essentially only a four block by four block area. But, it had it's own police force.

With such a small area, the police force had nothing to do. So, all they would do is ride around those four blocks pulling over anyone who went more than 2 mph over the speed limit...

Re: Will Brockport Have To Change Its Name?

Maybe Sweden College and Finlandia could establish a rivalry.:D
We could have the Viking Cup with:
Sweden College
Finlandia
St. Olaf
Gustavus
Salem State

Though does anyone think that SUNY-Sweden looks a bit odd??

Now that sounds like Route 2 through the Vermont islands. Especially Grand Isle County!
