After I see my upcoming work schedule today, Sunday might be a possibility... Probably going to skip out however and save my cash for something later in the year....

Looking ahead at these games, I am stuck pondering ND's goalie situation... Although Phillips is a Jr., he only has 10 games under his belt... Johnson is a Freshmen... I'm not sure what to expect... With both being green, I would think that the possibility of a meltdown is definitely there if we can get on the board early...

It's cliche, but we need to get on the board early in both games, especially Friday... As has been stated, someone other than Mark Olver needs to step up to the plate here... Phil Fox showed some life this past weekend... Hopefully he can keep the momentum rolling....

From the ND season thread:

NMU comes here with a 2-5-1 record averaging 2.25 goals for and 3.12 goals against. NHL on the Fly gave a telling stat that the team to score first in the NHL this season was winning better than 70% of the games (as expected...). NMU is 2-3-1 when scoring first (that's 41.7%).

ND is 5-4-1 while averaging an unremarkable 2.3 goals for and a remarkable 1.8 goals against. ND is 4-3-1 when scoring first (56.3%). Both teams need to work on holding a lead.

Maybe we should let them score first?

OK, where is all the excitement? This week has been interesting, its a chance for the Cats to come out and take some points away from the Irish. I think NMU has Revenge on the mind from its experience at the Joe. Cats need to come out on fire, play 60 minutes, score more goals, control the puck, and take it to the Irish......

LETS GO CATS!!!!

Re: Wildcats @ Fighting Irish Nov.14-15

I've noted this in the past. Northern's record during Michigan's deer season is, in a word, bad. Don't ask me why. But as far back as '90-'91 the the Cats come up short. For example, last year they got swept at BGSU. It seems every year I sit at camp and listen to one loss after another. And I get to hear my uncle ask "What's wrong with the Northern Michigan University Wildcats?"

Yes, even during the National Championship season of '90-'91, the year they went 38-5-4, they went 1-3-1 during deer season.

So if your looking for factors that might indicate how the Cats will do this weekend and the next few series, don't overlook this obscure phenomena.:D

Based on this, I see no more than 2 wins between now and Dec. 1.

Please, oh please, Cats. Prove me wrong this deer season!

As long as none of our players gets lost in the woods, I'll consider it a victory.

Re: Wildcats @ Fighting Irish Nov.14-15

Is anyone aware of TV coverage that we can pick up on the net for this series?

EDIT: Cancel that question. Saturday's 5:05pm game is televised for free on www.und.com. Sunday's game will not have the same offer. It will not be televised.

Don't forget to have a pint (and some awesome Irish stew) at Fiddler's Hearth. If you're staying overnight, Nick's Patio has great (and cheap) breakfasts. And...we now have a Gino's East, so if it's pizza you're craving, brave the Grape Road cluster**** and have a pie! Safe travels to all who venture south of the (Michigan) border.

Stop and say, "Hey," if you want. I'm over the tunnel where the players come out.

Considering the fact that Dave is the voice of the Wildcats he will have to just waive to you from the press box. :D

What's up with ND this year? They don't seem as strong as in years past. Is this a rebuilding year for them?

While I didn't know who he was, I meant for any NMU poster. Not just the famous ones. ;)

I wouldn't consider it a rebuilding year. They're not clicking. I blame the mild summer. :p I have the utmost faith that come Xmas, I will have forgotten their truly forgettable start to this season.

Re: Wildcats @ Fighting Irish Nov.14-15

Thanks for the tips JJFP! Any worthwhile places in that Grape Road area?

The square mile of Grape Road, University Park Dr., Main St and Edison has about 30 places to eat, some sit down, some fast food. The best place to eat is Fiddler's Hearth, which is not on Grape Road! JJfP said it best in her description of Grape Rd. If you brave it, plan on it taking you nearly 20 minutes to go the 3 miles from top to bottom.

we'll have to stop by sometime, we'll have 3 others with us on saturday (we'll likely have nmu or wolves jerseys on) I think aparch said we're in section 1 (not 100% sure though), then section 2 for sunday.

Re: Wildcats @ Fighting Irish Nov.14-15

Not related to this series, but for any NMU fans. Have any of you sat directly behind the bench at the Berry? Am looking into catching a game down there sometime soon, that's usually where I like to camp out.

Re: Wildcats @ Fighting Irish Nov.14-15

I think aparch said we're in section 1 (not 100% sure though).

That's my section. Well...not my section... Most opposing fans who sit in section one are down low at the face-off circle, so good luck seeing the other end of the ice! :p Oh, and prepare yourself for crazy_guy_in_section_1. He's...um...an acquired taste.

As for Grape Road/Main Street: Applebees, Max/Irma's, Houlihan's, TGIF's, Chili's, Famous Dave's (the best bread pudding ever), Panera, Olive Garden, Wings, Five Guys (also one just off campus), Logan's, Outback, Gino's E (you can't rush good Chicago-style pizza), Mancino's, IHOP, many fast food places and Krispy Kreme (my personal fave :D ). And, yes, I've dined at all of them. It's no secret that I am the anti-housewife.
