WI @ MN: The Red Menace Visits The Mecca

Re: WI @ MN: The Red Menace Visits The Mecca

The Badgers better turn it around by early Feb when they go to UND. It's the last conference series in a very fun and intense rivalry, and the games will hopefully do that history justice. They will never replicate Hukalo Weekend, but physical play and some close games would be great. A handshake brawl would be too much to hope for.

BURD - I'll lace em up myself and get out there and take a few punches myself if I have too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jXsmGTQz-I

I don't know who was calling that game (a young PB?), but his assessment was: "Absolutely disgusting!"

It's been an intense rivalry since 1980, but the "hate" has always been fun hate, for the most part, from Sioux fans' perspective, which is a little surprising, given the water bottle fight and the importance of their tourney games 1980 - 1984.

But hey, if you lace em up and get onto the ice between periods dressed in red and wave a bottle around, I'm sure you'll get some takers. Great idea.

Re: WI @ MN: The Red Menace Visits The Mecca

Not disappointed about 3pts two weekends in a row. Disappointed that it could have easily been a sweep if the Gophers had cashed in on a major penalty and a half. The Saturday game could have been a blow out if Minnesota had cashed in on sconnie's parade to the penalty box in the 3rd period as well. I think part of that is the frustrating style of shut down hockey that sconnie plays. I'll give them credit for that. They collapse around the crease and it usually results in one shot and they clear it out before there is a chance for a rebound. Not surprised that both games were close and I am ok with a 3pt weekend against a rival, even if it was a home series.

FWIW, I thought the major penalties were BS. The CFB was TERRIBLE! I had a side view of it and I could not believe he got 5 for that. As for the contact to the head.....I don't think there was any malicious intent there. Serratore had has head down and as a result, there was contact to the head. It was unfortunate.

Both of these games turned due to big time PK. WI killed the two majors on Friday so the Gophers couldn't bury one to take the lead. The Gophers killed off the 5x3, and once that happened I figured we'd hang on for the win, which is exactly what happened.

You can't call penalties based on "the unfortunateness" of the situation. Contact to the head and checking from behind are not subjective.

Indeed. The only thing left to do is put the STOP signs on the back of college jerseys too. :D

Maybe for that age, it should be a pic of a topless co-ed on the back of the jersey. Everyone but Rocco would slow-up for a better look that way.
