Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Yeah, it was a huge favorite of mine and I'll need to check it out again at some point. Still have the CD of course. Probably their best album. I hear a lot of the songs when I listen to a live album or a concert.

And thanks. Now I'm youtubing them all out. :p

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

These won't sound all the same but will have a similar theory and style (you may have heard of many of these so forgive me):

-Editors
-The National
-Placebo
-Surfer Blood
-Deer Tick
-The Xx
-Black Rebel Motorcycle Clud
-Spiritualized
-Cloud Cult

I agree with the recommendation of Joy Division, but I assume you've heard them already and find the comparison a bit over-rated.
I've got the National and Cloud Cult; Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus is one of my favorite CDs. I'll spend my afternoon youtubing the rest.

My Skrillex channel on Pandora just played Gangnam Style. God help us all.

While home for the holidays I burned Lonerism by Tame Impala. It is interesting and quite good.

If you like them, and that song in particular, check out Pond. "Elephant" was written by the drummer, Pond is another project in which he has a hand in writing nearly everything.

To echo Gurtholfin: The Cure rules. Although my favorite album by them is still Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me.

Love that one, but I prefer Pornography or Head on the Door. Were I to recommend something by The Cure to the uninitiated it would be the trilogy of Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers as a starter set and branch from there. Can't argue against 17 Seconds especially since Play for Today and A Forest are on there.

[edit] To piggyback on Gurt's comment, Robert Smith is a brilliant guitarist but unless you've seen them live or are familiar with the depth of their catalog you would never know it.

[edit II] Bob, also check out Loop. They are no longer around but can be found:

Guster. A fiend burnt me a bunch if their stuff and I have been listening to it for about a week now. The verdict is still out on it.

I'm hit and miss with their work. They have about 10-15 songs that I really like, and the rest of it just rolls over me without notice.

U2 - From the Ground Up: Edge's Picks From U2 360

More live tracks from the 360 tour. A companion piece to the U22 release. This came with the official book commemorating the tour (not that I bought that book).

Always happy to get more live U2.

Domestic Problems- Patiently
The Postal Service- Give Up
VAST- April

Also, I like Massive Attack; I think "Mezzanine" is a fantastic album. What are some similar artists I should check out?

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Foo Fighters, Motley Crüe, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Eagles and Smashing Pumpkins are all on shuffle.

Grateful Dead - 9/6/91 Richfield Coliseum

Was at this one and it was the best Dead show I attended. On fire from start to finish.

We took a noob to this show and as my buddy and I were perma-grin from ear to ear through the first set, he kept saying, "I don't feel anything. You guys?" During Bird Song (1st set closer) it floored him and he's been a Dead Head since. :)

Great show...

Throwing Muses - Limbo

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Today, I have heard...

Mr Blotto - Parking Karma

Muse - The 2nd Law

P.M. Dawn - The Utopian Experience

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Bob Dylan: Tempest

Liked the previous three Together Through Life, Modern Times, and Love and Theft better than this current album, all of which have the same sound and tone.

But, Tempest offers up some very good, strong, though dark, story-telling tunes. Liked the album much better on my second and third listen.

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

This morning, I listened to Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness

Now... Lyle Lovett - Live in Texas

EDIT: Now, of all things...

Men at Work 10/10/82 from Akron

This is a Westwood 1 radio broadcast. Used to love these guys as a 12 year old in 1982. :)
