The Kooks - Konk

Good fun, these guys.

On the way in this morning I listened to Paul Banks' (Interpol singer) new album for the first time.

Meh. Have to give it another shot or two. Will be hard coz what I really like about Interpol is the guitars working together, not necessarily Banks' singing (although his voice goes quite well with their music). Guitar work is light on this album and some of the lyrics are awfully mundane and/or cliche.

Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls

I finally picked this album up a couple of weeks ago after listening to one or two of their songs and my brother telling me I should get the CD. Listened to it on my way to/from work every day for about 2 weeks. Good lord its a great album.

For those who are not familiar here are two songs from them:

(I was trying to find the live version of this from Jimmy Kimmel but it would not come up...and other live versions were not of the best quality)

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Soundgarden - King Animal - ...better than expected but there is a soft middle there that may sound better to my ears upon more listens
Bad Brains - Into The Future - man, I love Bad Brains...or at least the ROIR tape, Rock For Light and I Against I. Quickness was ok...but this? wow. it's actually embarrassing...very disappointing
Corin Tucker Band - Kill My Blues - great stuff. first song has terrible lyrics but Corin Tucker has such a great voice. By that alone this sounds infinitely more punk rock than Wild Flag (and I dig Wild Flag as well...), in short very good but Sleater-Kinney should just reunite and bring the rock back

Just bought the new Deftones but have yet to spin it.

can't wait for new Voivod in January along with new Night Marchers (john reis from Drive Like Jehu and Rocket from the Crypt)

oldie but goodie - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeqyCwAeT3I&feature=related

husker du never lets you down!

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

I've been listening to a lot of Beach House and Metric lately. Wouldn't mind switching it up, just hasn't happened yet.

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Dusted off the following:

You Should Be Living- TwoThirtyEight
What's the Story, Morning Glory?- Oasis
Heroes and Villains- Paloalto

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Babyshambles - Shotter's Nation

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Led Zeppelin - 6/17/80 from Dortmund, Germany

Nice soundboard recording. Wish I could find early 70's recordings that sound this good.

The Heavy: The Glorious Dead

Like these guys. Quite a range in their sound: R&B, funk, rock, punk...

They can go from this "Can't Play Dead" to this "Be Mine" to this "Just My Luck"

Their first two albums Great Vengeance and Furious Fire and The House That Dirt Built are also very good.

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Listening to the Finns today on shuffle. This song just finished up. Great version of probably my favorite Smiths song...

The ensemble/band for this show included Neil Finn (Crowded House, Split Enz), Johnny Marr (Smiths), Phil Selway & Ed O'Brien (Radiohead), Sebastian Steinberg (Soul Coughing) & Lisa Germano (who hasn't she played with?). Incredible show(s) and the dvd is a great watch/listen. Eddie Vedder, Tim Finn & Liam Finn sit in for a bunch of tunes also.

So I pre-ordered Led Zeppelin's Celebration Day 2 CD set and only today finished listening to the end of CD2. Robert Plante was distracting. I expected his voice to be different than what you hear recorded between then and now, but the way he was just skipping out on verses felt very lacking to me. Perhaps my impression would be different had I ordered the DVD to see what else was going on, but from having only listened to the concert, it gives the impression that either he just didn't care or simply doesn't have the ability/memory to sing those songs anymore. The rest of the band sounded very good, my only complaint is with Plante's performance.

Yeah, I thought it was good for what it is - a one off reunion. I don't have the dvd either.

But if I'm wanting some live Zeppelin, there will be quite a bit in front of Celebration Day on the playlist. How the West was Won, Several bootleg shows, a bunch of shows from Robert's solo tours...

His recent work with the Band of Joy was stellar.

The greatest song of the '80s, by the best band of the 80's.

And if that ain't the best, then this one might well be.

Pink Floyd - Shine On Live

Dvd rip (actually laser disc most likely since this hasn't come out on dvd) of the audio from their late 80s concert film.
