Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

I downloaded Kip Moore's Up All Night for 3 bucks and it is very good. I really didn't expect it to be this good, but its nice to be pleasantly surprised.

Created a Ramones-based channel on I Heart Radio. Patti Smith's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" came on.

...............wow. I like. A lot.

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

This seems like the place to make mention of Noise Trade. I've been using for the past, I don't know, year maybe, this site is NoiseTrade.com. The site lets you download music from artists - some making the push from regional to national, others trying to reestablish themselves, and on rare occasions a few short sets from more recognizable names still going strong. You can download for free or leave a "tip" for the musicians at any dollar amount you choose. The genres are mixed, but I'd say it's more heavily based on alternative and folk groups. I was introduced to a band called Fillager through this site, they have a sound similar to early Black Crowes' music. I also learned about Here Come the Mummies through this site, for those who know them, they're not folk or alt rock.

I just decided to mention the site now because I'm in the process of downloading a Rhett Miller live recording from a venue called "Eddie's Attic" in Dallas, TX. You can listen to the music on the site instead of downloading, so you don't have to clutter your hard drive with music you might end up just deleting.

Jack White - 7/1/12 from Belfort, France

Interesting in a manic kinda way...

EDIT: Wow, that was a fun listen! Not sure what to follow it with...

No, they certainly are not. If you have not already done so, you MUST see them live.

It's funny that you mention that. I know nothing about Here Come The Mummies, but I checked out their tour schedule and they're actually in Grand Rapids, MI this Thursday the 19th. Might check them out...not sure.

Anyway, here's the HCTM tour schedule if anyone's interested.

I've been listening to more of The Black Keys: Rubber Factory and Magic Potion. Like the Keys a lot!

Rolling Stones - 7/18/78 Fort Worth, TX

At one point, between songs, Mick says "I'm afraid if the band's lacking slightly in energy, it's because we spent all last night f_cking. We do our best."

Have it on in my office. Hope the HR manager didn't overhear. :D

On the ride in... Blackfoot - Flying High

70s Southern Rock, think Skynyrd (with some early REO) without the southern pride anthems or the songs we've all heard too many times.

Now: David Gilmour - In Concert

This is an audio rip from the acoustic dvd that he put out before On an Island came out.

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Gang of Four - Entertainment...****, why didn't I get into this band earlier?

saw the Liars last night in Milwaukee...good show but where the hell was everybody? for a band that's had as much hype as they have for 10 years...there were *maybe* 120 people at the show...sort of depressing. I've noticed attendance way down at clubs and concerts for 2-3 years now.

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Cloud Cult - Light Chasers
Daniel Amos - Vox Humana
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
The Honeydogs - Here's Luck
Jimi Hendrix - West Coast Seattle Boy
of Montreal - False Priest
The Replacments - Let it Be (Black Diamond and others so brilliant)
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
She Wants Revenge - She Wants Revenge
Morcheeba - Big Calm

Forgot: Mason Jennings - Live at First Ave

The Steve Miller Band - Live on the King Biscuit Flower Hour 1973

Really got sick of SMB due to a college roomie who only had the Greatest Hits (along with maybe 3 other cds) and played it over and over and over...

This is a VERY different SMB from the early 70s and quite good.

His other cds: Meatloaf - Bat Out of Hell, Garth Brooks - The one with Friends in Low Places & Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Greatest Hits

How do I remember this detail from the very early 90s? Coz I want to choke someone out whenever I hear anything off those cds.

Many people don't know that Garth Brooks' biggest hit, Friends in Low Places, is a cover track. The song was originally released by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. NGDB's version was a sad, rather moribund song. As you can guess, Garth changed the tempo and mood from the original. I'm curious if the two facts were connected in your roommate's mind and that's why he had the two discs, or if it was just coincidence.

I didn't know that about that song. I doubt very much that he knew that as he was a greatest hit kinda music fan. Doubt that he delved too far into the Dirt Band's catalog.

Haven't had contact with him since 92, so we may never know...

Boy, he played the heck out of that Brooks album though.

"Some of God's greatest gifts, are unanswered prayers..."

UGH! I still remember that stuff all these years later.

No Fences is one of the best ever. Simply incredible. The Thunder Rolls, 2 of a Kind Working on a Full House, Unanswered Prayers, Friends in Low Places, Wild Horses...****

And I thought it was recorded first by Mark Chesnutt, not Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, but it wasn't really a cover by Garth, it was a case where the composers let both artists record it, Chesnutt recorded it first, but Brooks' version is the one that made it big time.

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

What a crappy album. My bro and a good friend at the time played that non-stop. It was one of 5 tapes in the rotation at my first job as a dishrat. Horrid, horrid, horrid.

Re: What's on your Playlist? USCHO Music Thread

Funny how things can come full circle, but listening to a Robert Plant show today - 12/13/93 from Amsterdam

Some between songs banter after introducing the band:

Robert - Do you feel GOOD!?!

Crowd - YEAH!!

Robert - DO YOU LIKE GARTH BROOKS!?!

Crowd - yeah...

Robert - You're f_cking mad. You'll say "yes" to anything. I've heard about you Dutch. Here's an old Dutch folk song...

...goes into Babe I'm Gonna Leave You :)
