Only Fans is dumping all of their "Explicit adult content" on Oct. 1...

Guessing that since it's just a route for content creators to post stuff, they are probably facing questions about the "legality" of some of the content.

I guess it started up originally as something similar to what CAMEO is (you pay $ for celebrities to record a personalized greeting I.E. Happy B-day/Anniversary/Etc.) and other interactions with your fanbase, but that quickly went off the rails and became what it is.

So what is it that makes it such a good platform for them?

They pay better than pornhub and they'll handle the 2257 stuff for you, so far as I know.

"Real" porn stars love it because their fans will absolutely pay, and they get to choose who they work with (instead of whoever the production company sets you up with).

Amateurs love it during COVID because extra income for showing off the goods.

OnlyFans provides the server space and processing. Content Creators do their thing and put out content. "Fans" pay for said content/interaction and both the content creator and platform take their cuts.

That seems like a reasonable model. Gets rid of all the parasites.

That's what has been driving this actually... You no longer need to "make it" in San Bernardino to become a star. You can do it from your location with just a little start up cost in production and equipment...

I hope the same thing happens with music, art, film, writing.

Withdraw from the system to bankrupt it.

That's the basic concept behind YouTube. There is no middleman. You make something that people en masse want to watch, YouTube will pay you very generously so long as you bring eyeballs to the ads that are placed in and around your content.

Youtube is poison for local musicians. Bandcamp actually helps with money, whereas Youtube requires you to have a giant following before they pay. And they basically freely let anyone post your music.
