Your attempt at Grinching out everybody else's life does go too far sometimes. A lot of people care about the progress of the pregnancy, both regarding the mother, the child, and (to a much lesser extent) the father's. Unbidden or welcomes, they will invest themselves. Mostly it's family, for whom these parties are held, but close friends will also attend the same. You just need to have the friends.
