What the Fark 4: It's not unusual to be strange anymore

My doctor's office lets you check your medical records online, including medication. I found a script for Colace, a laxative, when I've never had a problem with that.

In high school, a British friend of mine narrowly lost a speech competition, only to read in the reviews that one judge ranked her dead last because, "if you're going to put on a fake British accent to read a piece of English prose, you should at least learn how to do it correctly." Lest you've forgotten, I grew up in East Tennessee....oh, the irony.

Here, have a nightmare. (Also: Top Comment.)

Also: I know what my next car is.

The woman in the BMW had been sent to the hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

The structural engineer was previously in charge of the Silver Spring, MD Metro bus station.

An in-joke but a really good one. BTW have you seen the exterior of the up and coming Herndon silver line parking garage? Either something's still missing or the barrier on the external wall is a miniaturized Higgs field.

Drove by it on the way to Dulles area about a month ago. Since I was trying to avoid the crazies on the toll road, it was a brief glance.

I took that twice a day for 13 years. I don't miss that part of the commute, nor the extra hour each way I used to have to drive.

Though here's the secret about the Toll Road west of 28: during commuting hours M-Th it's all hardcore, professional commuters. I've never been in fast flow traffic where I felt safer in the Northeast (other than I-95 at 2 a.m. where it's just you and the long hauls). Everybody doing that drive was on trip number 3000+ and knew exactly what they were doing; it was essentially 500 Babydrivers in formation all going 70, and I never saw a mistake or a risk.

Now, mix in a hood ornament housefrau or a 20-something male or an out-of-state Trumpy taking his RV to Gettysburg and everybody was f-cked.

Holy crap. I don't think you could make a cleaner cut with a very big, sharp knife. Bit right through the spine and a lot of flesh.

That literally is what happens when you wield a broadsword at somebody's hip.

I remember a truly hideous lecture about the medical aspects of medieval close combat. You died of your injuries long after the battle ended and the typical time you laid around in agony was about 3 hours. People who got deep hacking slices would go into shock almost immediately, but most victims died horrific slow deaths, often being mauled by animals who took over the battlefield.

People who want to join the military should first have to endure paper cuts and chemical burns, and go to a military hospitals and see the amputees. Recruitment would drop to zero.
